President Mwanawasa has called for politics of unity and development in the country.

The president said the new deal administration has done a lot to improve the standard of living of the people of Zambia since coming to power about six years ago.

Dr Mwanawasa thanked the MMD members and the nation at large for their prayers for his reconciliation with PF leader Michael Sata.

He said politics of reconciliation and unity should be encouraged in order for the nation to achieve sustainable development.

He said the reconciliation between him and Mr Sata will be meaningless if MMD members do not extend the same to those wishing to join the ruling party.

President Mwanawasa reminded MMD party members that Mr Sata has not joined the MMD but still belongs to his party and that they should concentrate on rebuilding and consolidating the party in order to effectively implement the party’s development agenda.

And provincial minister Charles in his welcome remarks, said the people of Eastern province ae thanful to president Mwanwasa for his commitment to develop the province,

Mr Shawa said this can be seen in the many development projects and programmes taking place in the province such as the eletrification of Chama which the president and his Malawian counterpart Bingu Muthariak will commission on Tuesday.

And MMD Eastern province chairman Kennedy Zulu said his executive which was elected in office recently will ensure the ruling party is strong and united in the province.

President is tomorrow expected to address a puiblic rally in Vubwi constituency before proceeding to Chama where he will commission the Chama power project with Malawian president Bingu Mutharika on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a traditional ruler in Mwinilunga has commended president Mwanawasa for reconciling with opposition Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata.

Senior chief Kanongesha of the Lunda people in Mwinilunga told ZANIS that it is gratifying to see the two leaders reconcile.

“Truly we are all happy with the reconciliation of president Mwanawasa nd Mr Sata as political leaders,’ he said.

The traditional ruler stressed that reconciliation and forgiveness are the cornerstone of unity and development in the nation.

Senior chief Kanongesha urged the two leaders to honour their pledge to work together in developing the country.

He said the reconciliation of the two leaders should be emulated by other political players in the country.

Senior chief Kanongesha said development will be easy to attain if all politicians put their differences behind and work at national unity.

And senior chief Kanongesha has summoned church leaders to play a pivotal role in assisting to reconcile politicians in the country.

He said the church should play its role and help politicians to iron out their differences for the good of the nation.

Meanwhile, senior kanongesha has praised president Mwanawasa for providing traditional rulers with motor vehicles to enhance their mobility around their chiefdoms.

He said the development confirms the importance government attaches to the institution of chiefs in the country.

  1. Great stuff Mr President LPM. We need the much talked about development now, and then minimise on cheap talking.

  2. Good speech Mr president and needs all the accolade it deserves.Hope its the begining of new dawn were our presidents shall not fear to lose to the opposition when the opposition has great and superior ideas.Hope it is the time our presidents did not stack money out side their mother Zambia.Hope they will use all they have worked for to plant back into the economy.Hope now we will see alot of president Mwanawasa to use his higer education than that of his predecessors to put back Zambia on the road of recovery.Hope now is the time were proper processes of voting can be put in place so that votes are on merit and not on the tin of chibuku.God bless you and may He lead on your way.

  3. HE,you’ve welcomed Sata better than he wld have done if he was in plot 1.My player is that the oldman sata wil nv turn on u going by his inconsistency.Pliz leave a legacy behind where leaders wil b elected on merit.

  4. Ba Bhaps,
Its not what the opponent would do to you that matter, but what you do in handling the opponent in carrying the day. I personally don’t see Ba Sata renegading on this move for reasons beyond discussion on this rostrum.Time is the best teacher. As human beings we have a lot to learn from Christ who after it all he said ” in his father’s house are many mansions for everyone”. MMD is a ruling party with responsibility over Zambia and her people from all dimensions. The ruling party has a place every Zambian.Denial and exclusion is a choice under the prevalent dispensation.

  5. If Ba Sata had any reason to renegade, he would be a self inflicted casualty beyond recovery in many fronts. We are in real clear politics of issues and common good not personality.

Watch the space as you enjoy your blessings. It’s all amazing grace.

  6. HE you the true leader keep at it dats what we want show them and just kick back as you watch the follow your steps control them where necessary to you I salute am out peace be to mother Zambia

  7. Promote the speechwriter to also write LPM’s speeches for independence – we need a leader who inspires hope and hard work. Keep it up, Mr Speechwriter!!

  8. Great Speech indeed, though of course actions speak louder than words. It’s high time as a nation that we moved at full speed in developing our nation.I mean we are about 200 years behind technologically & we need to catch up with rest of the world.
Indeed,we need to team up put aside our differences & put our hands to the plough feed the nation & create jobs for our people.

  9. LPM must now walk the talk. His foreign service is full of his relatives just like other parastatals. Most public jobs are never advertised and appointments are made by LPM without any concerns about quality of appointees and their performance track record if they have any.

  10. Am sure sata realise dthere would never be development in his home village.politics of stone throwing and insults is long gone.VIVA LPM and HH.

  11. Guys, imagine LPM, SATA and HH sitting on a table discussing national issues amicably, Zed has a bright future.

  12. #4,my only prayer is that shikulu sata wont uturn on Levy.dont forget what that oldman is made of and what he is capable of doing when he does what he knows best

  13. Gerhard Schroeder once said to Bush, even amongst friends it should be possible to disagree on issues without breaking the friendship, or something to that effect.

  14. Personally not impressed. A little bit of sincerity please!

What about intra-party democracy? Lets practise what we preach.

What does Bhap, 13 mean when he says Sata should not U turn on Levy? Should he now be a lap dog for Levy because he has had taxpayers (not Levy’s) money spent on him? Food for thought…

I dont agree with Sata most of the time, but if his idealogy is fundamentally different from Levy’s, he should express that freely and then they can agree to disagree. Thats growth!

Granted, Levy must be commended for the maturity he has displayed, but that is the minimum standard we should expect

  15. Dear Bloggers,
Kindly assist me with the following information?
1.Which secondary school did ba SATA attend?
2.Who were his former classmats and are they any still alive?
3.What professional qualifications has SATA got and from which Institution ?
4.How many legitmate wives has SATA got ?.

    Please assist.

  16. citizen, why are you littering this site with these questions. go and ask SATA himself as these are personal questions. why dont you give us your bio data first before asking others for theirs. whats your beef with SATA’s CV. its better you tell us your motive than just asking these unequivocal questions. just because you have a degree should not make others inferior and make u a saint. no my dear. this has to end. we are all in a spirit of reconcilliation and i personally have done away with confrontational blogging.

  17. #16,

It is sometimes useless to look for signs of an education in a person. Sata is just not fit to be presodent of Zambia. LPM is also not fit to be the president of Zambia. His performance speaks for itself. He is simply not nationalistic enough to take care of the concerns of the vast majority of Zambians. He is a product of rigging and electoral malpractices. He has no legitimacy as from 2001. All he is doing is play the harp as instructed by his masters.

  18. #17 Mwana mubotu this is the exact I was dreading. The question is not about SATA’S education but rather how much we know about the person who controls half of the political landscape in this country and aspires to lead this country as President. If I had asked these questions about Kaunda almost every one including non Zambians on this blog would have been able to answer. The same goes for questions on Mwanawasa. Unfortinatly for SATA like we did for Chiluba, we are very shy to check thier backgrounds. Policies of a leader are normarly a product of their principles and motivation . We ended up with Chiluba a crook in State house because we did not ask these pertinent questions.

  19. In the last few days a lot of PF supporters are in disarray they are failing to understand their leaders change of direction. Fortunatly for most people who have dared to know SATA’S background lack of defined priciple they are able to understand the motivation for his actions.

In short it is his personnal interest which is guiding his recent actions. When circumstances will favour his interests in the near future. He will not hesitate to change direction.

  20. “..politics of insults and stone-throwing are over and it is now time for politicians to embrace each other in developing the country.”
These are words of wisdom, relevant anytime, anywhere no matter who’s mouth they are coming from. How I wish this message could sink not only inside every Zambian but every African politician’s head and heart. Waumfwa Mugabe!

  21. Mulyata acquitted
The Livingstone Magistrates’ Court has acquitted former Southern Province Minster, Joseph Mulyata of charges of abuse of authority of office.

Mulyata 47, who is also Mongu Central Member of Parliament was charged with one count of abuse of authority.

Between July 5 and 13 2007, Mulyata abused his authority by directing officers from the Road Development Agency to release a Germins Motorways bus impounded for evading to pay levy at the Livingstone weigh-bridge.

  22. The bus belonged to Lusaka businessman, Geofrey Mwamba.

Livingstone Magistrate Edsen Shanduba said evidence by prosecution witness Mubuyaeta Kapinda showed that he made a personal decision to release the bus.

Magistrate Shaduba said Kapinda who was then Southern Province Regional Engineer used his discretion to release the bus and that Mulyata did not direct the officers.

He said state prosecutors failed to prove any case against Mulyata.

  23. Sata having been a gang leader, what will happen to his followers? I’m he’s is not as popular as he’s used to be in his party. Anyhow, it is good that Sata has re-aligned himself.

  24. Sometimes when I read about our President talking about olitics of unity in the country and at the same time say people should not worry about who would succeed him because god will take care of that, I shudder to think where this country is heading, how can a man like LPM whom I respect a lot, start this “God will take care of everything” punch line when he knows very well that God has endowed us with brains to think and make plans for our own destiny? Pls people let us unite and make adequate preparationse in advance so that we do not have chaos in the end.
