Katongo, Kola To Lead Zambia’s Attack Against Togo

Share

Strikers Christopher Katongo and Roger Kola are expected to lead Zambia’s attack against Togo in their 2010 World/Africa Cup Group 11 qualifier this afternoon in Accra, Ghana.

According to reliable sources, clubless striker Collins Mbesuma, as expected, has not made the bench.

Missing from the starting 11 will be Zesco United midfielder Rainford Kalaba, Power Dynamos left winger Kennedy Mudenda including Kabwe Warriors attacker Emmanuel Mayuka who will also start from the bench.

Katongo of Brondby in Denmark and Zanaco striker Kola will be complemented upfront by Clifford Mulenga of Bidvest Wits of South Africa in attack.

The Brondby and Zanaco striker have each scored two and three international goals this year in all competition for Zambia.

Meanwhile, Zambia coach Herve Renard has picked Kennedy Mweene of Free State Stars in South Africa in goals ahead of Amazulu minder Kalililo Kakonje.

The match will be played at 17:00 Zambian time and will be live on ZNBC, the station has confirmed.

  1. #2, i used to watch ZNBC online on ukzambians.co.uk. But lately, the network is terrible here. Try to login and advise.

    Or is there another, is it web or page or line or what do you call it?

  2. Hi Chiko and Anonymous,

    You can try africast.tv, they broadcast ZNBC live, but you need to pay a subscription.

    I’ll keep searching for other possible options and be sure to let you know if I am successful

  3. If that is the line-up for todays match then I think we have a chance. Great choice up front, the tall KOLA and katongo Chris in front, great choice, I have always felt Katongo should have been playing as a striker and not ifya bu namba 7. Togo have Adebayor the womanise in London, we have these too, killer punch lelo we will win. Defence I am confident of Chintu (should have been there years back but ba PP (blind), he is Zeds best defender pound for pound. In future Nyambe Mulenga is going to replace Billy Mwanza and ..

  4. …and I think we will be very near top. Adebayor is good but not great as som newsmen(Togoese) seem to be to be suggesting, lets us ponona thme lelo

  5. Wel done ZNBC but zesco may let us down with the load shadding lets go zambia guy be on line we gonna be up dating u of the scores try radio comerntry may be

  6. I agree with u kafusha that though Adebayor destroyed zed in 2005, he is just an average chap and he is tall, that’s all. Mali beat Togo in Lome, zambia has beaten both star studded teams. 3-2 to zambia.

  7. This is a good team especially the offence.I see young Clifford Mulenga making a impact. Guys back home please keep us updated as the game progreses .All the best to the boys.

  8. why is kalaba not usually started?the guy is great on the ball and recal the supplier of the chris katongo goal against egypt,it was kalaba himself.let the coach give him a starting chance.

  9. Hi ‘mugabe’ (I’m not sure about that name 🙂

    I have subscribed to www(dot)africast(dot)tv and am watching ZNBC now.

    The subscription is $6.95 for 24hrs.

    I agree that Kalaba losing his place is a surprise, especially as we played much better using 4-3-3 than 4-4-2. Renaud has decided to use 4-4-2 so guess one of the central midfielders had to be dropped. Rainford was the least influential of the 3 in the second half next week and Isaac is the defensive one of the three so his place is almost assured. It therefore comes down to Rainford or Felix.

    I think Renaud has opted for Kola for his physical presence too. He will hold the ball up and Chris will do the running into space

  10. Hi Whisper, can you run a text commentary for some of us? We don’t have that much broadband this side of the world to stream video. I will just be refreshing this page. Thanks in advance

  11. Please Whisper, try message me on whats happening with the chipos. I will also be refreshing. I fully rely on you.

  12. Hi guys,

    I am watching the news at the moment and am just crossing my fingers that the match will come on afterwards.

    I will try to give regular updates, keep checking back.

  13. Alright ba Whisper, Isubilo lyesu lili muli imwe. Otherwise ngamwalaba ukutucitako update twalashalila inuma. I can’t find the free line to watch from here in Belgium

  14. Guys try live streaming p2p search with google it might just show the match on znbc there showing the line up

  15. Guys,

    upto now nothing and the newsreader has said that the next programme is ‘Broadway’. I am suspecting that I have wasted $6.95. I don’t know how ‘live’ this stream is!

  16. Even the TV schedule seems to be out of date, so its hard to tell. Unless ZNBC has announced prior that it will show the qualifier.

  17. Ala! Between Africast and ZNBC, I don’t know who is trying to steal my money. After the news there was an advert saying that the match would be shown and asking fo sponsorship, that was followed by an advert for the Champions League final on 21st May!!! It is now showing a French Legaue game between PSG and Auxerre, it just cut to the game which was in its 70th minute.

    Is there anyone on the ground who can tell me what is currently being shown on ZNBC?

  18. I think africast is a rip off. why are they showing a french league match??? 70 minutes in…

  19. Jeff,

    were ZNBC showing the French league before switching to the game?

    I want to find out if the ‘live’ stream has a few minutes lag time.

  20. The game is on as it is on the Danish pools, they are updating odds are put at 1,65 DKK (Togo win) 3,25 (Draw) DKK and 4,25 DKK (Zambia win) I have put my money on Zed. It is still 0-0. Game kicked off 17:30

  21. Chiko,

    Sorry mwana! I thought they meant it when they said live streaming. I actually don’t know how old this stream is!

  22. What`s happening with africast and znbc.I just paid to watch the game but they are only showing a Japanese documentary.

  23. Boyd Mwila’s Cllub Örgryte have just hammered 4-0 at home by Assyriska in the, Swedish Second Division shame

  24. I trying calling the Africast customer support number only to hear a recorder message that the mail box is full and they cannot take my message.

  25. The sccores are 1-0 in favour of Togo and it is now halftime, the game resumes in a minutes or so time

  26. AM NOT WATCHING THE MATCH BUT WHAT CHECKING OUT THE FIFA.COM WITH LIVE SCORES AT HALF TIME IT’S ONE ZERO IN FAVOUR OF TOGO I DON’T WHO SCORED.

  27. The 4 4 2 formation is not doing us any good. Let the coach bring in chamanga,mayuka and kalaba. Its better we use 4 3 3 formation. But Togo is not better than us. The boys are not themselves.

  28. Well we are paying the coach 20K USD to read the game and psyche the boys..and he better. This game is crucial and a must win. The least we can take is a draw. This Togo team had all sots of trouble and the our coach has had the best camp the team has ever had ..what is the latest guys

  29. Guys we were 2-0 down vs Iran at halftime last week. Renaud read the game on that occasion, hopefully he will do it again this time.

  30. this how our squad looks like
    * (GK) Kennedy MWEENE 1
    * Francis KASONDE 2
    * Clifford MULENGA 7
    * Isaac CHANSA 8
    * Felix KATONGO 10
    * Chris KATONGO 11
    * William CHINYAMA 13
    * Roger KOLA 14
    * chintu KAMPAMBA 15
    * Joseph MUSONDA 17
    * Billy MWANZA 18

    Substitute(s)

  31. the goal scorer for Togo is
    * Adekamni OLUFADE (16′)
    data from fifa.com, might not be exactly bcoz i thought francis kasonde was injuried

  32. This is agony!

    Imagine how much money ZNBC could make if they just decided to stream the match. I would have much rather given my $7 to them some dodgy Nigerians.

  33. I think at least we need to not allow a 2nd goal, otherwise that’s the end of the story. I hope Chris can pull some magic at the end.

  34. We have made a substitution ‘Francis Kasonde’ (I think it is actually Chintu Kapamba) is off for Sanida Zulu.

    I hope that someone who is watching the game can give us a kick by kick analysis of what happend

  35. Power 2 the people,

    We are using Fifa.com and our imaginations.

    The guys at Fifa are poor. Apart from listing Francis Kasonde as playing they also have Gift Kampamba on the teamsheet!?

  36. I hope we don’t have reports of a biased refree. This one today is from Burkia Faso I think. Why don’t CAF appoint refrees from different regions from the two teams. Anyway, I hope it doesn’t become an issue.

  37. So someone give us a good run down of the game. I’d like to know how we defended and attacked. Isaac red card? what was the story guys?

  38. Chabipa pa neutral ground batu sepa, ya kakana nomba cause we have to beat them in Chilies and then whip swazi, and hope Togo drop points to Swaziland panta kwati ni goal difference that will decide who wins this group

  39. What is wrong with de national team can’ t take advantage of togo’s confusions and neutral ground?

  40. West Africa will never be freindly for Zambia. Zambia always performs when when we least expect. We have to beat the Swaziland and Togo at home and win in Swaziland. Other wise no future. Fair result rather conceding 4 goals.

  41. Yaba, Justice you are already starting to do the math! Zambian football fans are experts at applying the laws of probablity.

    Guys, we need to win all the remaining games by good margins. Let’s start plotting how we will drug Adebayor and his boys when they visit us.

  42. We have to watch out we don’t get caught cold in June when Swazilan dplay us afew days after they play Togo!

  43. Guys the whole team wasnt gud at all. Surely we need experience of jacob, mbesuma,tana,misheck lungu,sinkala and sichone. We must mix with the young ones. This coach wont go very far. The 1,2 type of futubo is gone. But let us soldier a head.

  44. Zambia lost one zero man. Not a good start hope they we win the remaining games. They is more work need to be done. Though we will see the adjustment for them remaining games. Good luck fox.

  45. Can someone please give us an analysis of the game? Some of us are even neglecting our children waiting!

    Did they dominate us, who was the best player, how did they score, was Chris’ goal offside?

  46. Whisper, no math, we just need make sure we are playing a good game. I’m sure the team has come on allot these past weeks, but really the squad needs much more sure of itself. Why was Kalaba not on and Kasonde was, the team seems much better, but still that was not in the rehearsals . There are issues in our game and i hope these will be adressed directly and decisively .

  47. It appears that the fifa.com info isn’t much reliable – I have just spoken to someone who has watched the match in Zed and told me that in fact Chamanga came in as substitue but on fifa.com lineup he wasnt even on the bench. Chansa was redcarded for arguing the disallowed goal at the end of the game.

  48. I wish to confer all Zambian soccer fans with a degree in Soccer Probability Analysis, because that is what we will start applying now

  49. whisper u are crazy ati we drug Adebayor ??? Togo is a good team lets just hope for the best ..if Togo made all the 3 substitutes in the first half thats a clear indication that they where under pressure coz the chipopolo boys only made 1 change am sure the we will do better in the next game..

  50. Chris’ goal might have been offside at the time it was passed I think to Mayuka, I am nto sure how the offside rule is applied. I watched the game from 25 minutes to the end, the guys did not have a veru strong strike force, Clifford was good, Katos and Chamanga did not seem to combine very well, playing Felix at 6 did not help, I would have preferred Isaac at 6 and Felix at 8, he is more forceful there, but the coach knows better. The defence was not bad today but still needs some work, i did not see the goal for Togo so I am not qualified to say more. But there is a lot of hope for this team.

  51. Well gents it aint over till the fat lady sings.I believe Tana/Sichone as centre backs and Andrew Sinkala playing defensive mid(Makalele position) will allow us to play the free flowing football we are capable of.We need a solid defensive unit and the rest im sure will come to play especialy with the potential we have in midfield and strikers.
    Its better we stumble at the first hurdle, regroup and come back stronger then fail to perform when it realy matters.
    We will take care of Togo in our back yard.and win the remaining games.
    By the next game the goals will come.Keep the faith.

  52. #129 I doubt you will ever see Sinkala on the pitch we might as well start talking about other players who we can groom for 2010, Sinkala ia ailing and the earlier we accept the better. we were watching this game under a lot of pressure but play was not that bad believe me if you watch it under normal circumstances.

  53. The changes we might need, Kennedy Mudenda and Kalaba must come in for Isaac and Chamanga, then at some point you can rest Kalaba and get cliffors, if we are to go by the Botswana game, Kennedu Mudenda did a good job, we need balls in the 18 and central strike force, once we get the balls there then we are assured of a goal.

  54. Mwiinga, thanks for the insight. I think you highlight some very good points . This issue of getting the ball in the 18 is one that has persisted since Cam at afcon. The boys seem to get to around 25 easy enough and then it’s like we run out options. We must have a striker that can hold the ball long enough for others to join…

  55. For those who watched, hows our performance, did we create chances?how did the mid field do? was the defense tight?
    How did they score? did our forwards put them under pressure?
    rate our performance in departmants, keeper,defence, midfield, strikers, coach?

    id appreciate feed back from all who saw the game,cheers guys, we will prevail i our back yard.his is exra motivation for the boys watching from the sidelines,like Mbesuma.

    Indeed the boys need to die a little for our country , this will come thru the right guidence,preperation and confidence.

    when are the next games and when do we host those Togo chaps?
