Togo 1-0 Zambia

Share

Togo beat Zambia 1-0 in Group 11 of the 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

The game was Togo’s home tie but was played in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, because of a four-match stadium ban owing to crowd violence after a Nations Cup qualifier against Mali in Lome last year.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 17th minute by striker Olufade Adekanmi, who plays his football in Belgium for Gent.

  1. We should have taken advantage of the confusion in togo's camp imagine they only had a coach on thursday. Any way we will try next time. We should have taken advantage of the confusion in togo's camp imagine they only had a coach on thursday. Any way we will try next time.

  2. Why do we still believe that maybe one day these boys will be as good as the team that perished in Gabon? That team was the best. They used to die for Zambia and rip good results. These guys are just not ready to die a little.

  3. Thanks lusakatimes.com for letting us know. You are far much quicker updating your site than the stupid state run sites. Ifya government! Awe mwandini.

  4. What a suprsise! withh all the mayhem in the Togolese camp,Togo still manage to scrap a win, get the better of these boys? hmmm
These guys are headed for no where

One would have thought they would have had a psychological edge over the Togolese, i wonder what the excuse will be this time..the Ref,Allowances etc

  5. And you guys think Zambia will go to the world cup? C’mon guys, be realistic. Zambia has used the same unworkable strategy. Emply a coach 2 weeks before a crucial tornament begin. Select the same old players, and hope, ooh, sorry, pray for the best. Had Zambia invested in youth football in 2002 we could have a chance. You know what, forward planning, investment and patience are strategies that do not apply in a Zambian leader. We lost these games even before we played them. Go on Malawi, 8-1!!

  6. I said that the confusion in the Togolese camp might spur them to work harder. Confusion or no confusion when it comes to the day of the game it’s a different story.Games are won on the pitch. But 1-0 is a better than losing 4-1.It’s not over til the fat lady sings. The Togolese are not a small team from the neighbourhood.
Even when we play Swaziland we need to give them all the respect. No underating anyone.

  7. I may be wrong since I do not even know the layers we have got in the squad other than those I watched on Eurosport during the ACN, but I thought football died when ZCCM was “sold” by kalyakashetani. Having grown up on the CB, I remember we used to have tournaments and some sort of league for under 18s, 16 and so forth.
But having said that, it is no guarantee as I have seen a certain developed country with all its money fail to qualify for the tournament which starts in a few days time.

  8. We are just not good enough as of now and that is the truth. It don’t matter who the coach is, we are just crap, until we improve results will be like this. Anyway we got to give this guy a chance, just come in, there is no other way

  9. These days it’s only teams with players in the top European leagues that seem to do well. I don’t know if Emmanuel Adebayor played for Togo. Zambia does not have a single player in the English, Spanish or Italian top leagues. May be, instead of spending on a national coach, we should be spending on a team of good football administrators. We need structures that identify and nurture new talent. We also need to have a league that provides a sustainable livelihood for the players. A good football academy would also be useful. The likes of Kalusha Bwalya are not capable of doing this. Until FAZ is run by serious managers, we will not move forward.

  10. Fwebena Zed, lets be realistic. We are just not good enough. The Togolese beat us because they have pros in Europe while our so called pros play in SA. Without players in competitive leagues in europe , we will never go anywhere. We should also improve the infrastructure back home.

  11. This is the end,our loss started with bwalya starting becoming faz President. Stupid Zambia, not a serious country. Maybe i shud get some other passport. Why should i always be embarrassed? Baboons. lets stick TO 2 chess ,motor rally, squash and golf. Football is not ours because we cant run IT .LETS not bring embarrassment to Zambian citizens

  12. It takes years of infrastructure and grassroots development to get a nation ready for international competitions. FAZ is run by jokers.

  13. Zambia has talented footballers all over but FAZ can’t be bothered to look for them,as long as their wages are still paid why should they both. sports should be encouraged more in schools because not everyone is going to be a Doctor, there’s RAW talent within the poor so FAZ should have a scheme for them

  14. Guys cool down. It’s just one game and we did not lose that much. Future predictions
    Swazi 1 – 2 Zambia
    Zambia 4 – 1 Togo
    Zambia 8 – Swaziland 1

And we qualify to the next round on head to head.

Calm down guys. There is still hope.

  15. Its not over yet. I would like to see the highlights of Katongo’s late equalizer that I read about (but ruled off-side). There can be absolutely NO mistakes against Swaziland, and it will all come down to the one game at home in the re-match.

  16. A 17th minute strike by Olufade Adekanmi was enough to hand Togo a 1-0 win over Zambia in Group 11 of the 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday in a match played in Accra, Ghana.

It was a beautiful strike by the Belgium based striker which condemned new Chipolopolo trainer , Herve Renard to his first competitive loss for his new side.

Zambia, however felt undone when they had a goal disallowed and the side was frustrated by poor officiation which characterized the match, the Chipolopolo felt they had equalized only for the goal to be ruled out.

  17. Its always suspect officiating when its against a West African country. FAZ should insist on a North African referee for these matches. This is something other associations around the world actively are involved in. FIFA listens!!

  18. There is no excuse, Zambia just lost the match. Phiri would have done better. One more loose Zambia is gone.
Ati ba expertriate coach is what we need. What a banch of *****s in FAZ.

  19. ALL IS NOT LOST ,WE HAVE ONLY LOST ONE GAME.WIN OR LOSE OUR TEAM DESERVES WHOLEHEARTED SUPPORT.THERE IS NO ROOM FOR FAIRWEATHER FANS.

  20. All is definately NOT lost. This is just the beginning of the first phase of the qualifiers.I wish to remind everyone that out of the twelve groups,a total of twenty(20)teams will qualify to the last and final round. The top teams in each group automatically qualifies to the final round being joined by eight best runners up.So don`t tell me that we`ve got no chance.Besides,we`ve got to play Togo at home.

  21. Surely we Still have a chance either as best losers or as winners. We want a 1,2 type of futubo. togo are not a gud tim than zam. We lost on the formation, experience upfront ba kola, chris was not in gud form also.next game plz coci use mbesuma, jacob, kalab

  22. But if we beat swaz at their back yard 4 0,then we wire them here again 4 0 and when Alufade come here we disappoint him with 2 0 then we can quilify.but this the time to consider sinkala and sichone even tana. Let us assemble the strongest side 4 swazi.

  23. I think a pure experienced striker would have helped. Katongo has been great at times with Brondby, but at times he has to drop back into the midfield and set-up his teammates. The group is essentially going to come down to the two games (one past and the one coming up) against Togo, experience should have prevailed on this line-up card. Surely hindsight is 20-20, but the young players will have their time to shine against Swaziland.

  24. Guys r u sure u want phiri? munthu awama pogonana. u hav ored startd dissing the coach wen hope is stil there? did u watch the game? how did the boys play? u analized the zam iran n put up good points. lets us b die hards n sapot them lads thru. we hav a game at home n we can wire togo. wen a child fails he is ur son wen he passes he is my son. hope is not gone. munda wakale siusiliza njala. 10 yrs ago i had a gud harvest. zccm wil neva breath again. the damagd has been done from the mines 2 the grass u wil neva find green gras pa cb. shame greedness.

  25. Mak london 20 r u mac kat. i stil hav hope in the bullets. oops 2day bafana wil b baptised by super eagles of 9ija. xeno boys

  26. Tough lucky Zambia we just lost the game. It is a shame that the lads couldn’t take advantage of the confusion in the togonese camp. We still have a lot to learn in football.

  27. I can’t believe these people who are talking like this is the end of the world blaming everyone and everything for the loss. Some even talking of changing their passport-by all means please go ahead and change it-we have enough of such people in Zambia as it is!!! I don’t even think any of them watched the game. Football is a very difficult game and unless you have played it before you can never really understand its dynamics. Was all hope not lost in the qualifiers for the last ACN before the last game against bafana? Need I mention what the outcome was? I am a proud Zambian, win or lose and I believe in the future of Zambian football now more than ever. C’mon Chipolopolo!!!

  28. Any realist will tell you that we are not yet ready to go to the 2010 world cup but we should be serious contenders from the continent for the 2014 one. I will be disappointed if we are not by then but I won’t even think of changing my passport regardless.

  29. OUR DEFENCE IS JUST VERY POOR AND LOOSE OTHERWISE WE STILL HAVE A CHANCE
    PREDICTIONS
    ZAMBIA 4 SWAZILAND 0
    ZAMBIA 2 TOGO 0
    ZAMBIA 4 SWAZILAND 1

  30. #38 Very sensible comments/points, we have to look forward and that is all, no more no less

  31. It is sn fortunate that Mbesuma is becoming fatter and fatter each day. Ala mwe bantu this young man naina ukunyaa!! Therefore,he is not fit to play international football.

  32. # Viva correct thinking Nkeche. We are just starting and some people are blown by the win, when zambia wins, they praise the team are are trully zambians, when the tean loses, they want to change their passports. Go ahead and the country will lose nothing, you will need your motherland one day, rememember there is death. For me, zambia is going to qualify from the group. RSA(Xenobs) o Nigeria 6, for today’s game.

  33. choma u must b stupid, how do u say such stupid comments on ur country,u r the same person if we win u talk alot, chipolopolo………chipolopolo, why don,t u say something b4.where r we going to get players?those r the best we ve…we just have to improve from the grass root, thats all….its to early for our young players to start playing for national team,no experience 5 games in zambian league and he starts a game in Togo??????it doesn,t work….b4 we had good players in league and got finnished without playing in national team.

  34. Choma 1 is an ***** and a let down to the southerners.

Your comments just proves that you’re a failure who may even consider leaving your home because your kids have failed an exam.

  35. Guys,

I am yet to hear from someone who actually watched the game. Can one of you guys that saw the game come and give us a breakdown of what went on? We can’t start calling for heads and asking for drunkards (E Tana, he can’t even get in the team at Rangers) and overweight people people (Collins) to be included.

Also, I agree with the guys who say that FAZ needs to get serious about scrutinising the match officials before the match. We know our West African friends tend to use dubious methods to gain an advantage. Even before hearing about the disputed goal, I was suspecting that we might hear such stories about the ref. I hope it isn’t just sour grapes though!

  36. I Know you will say it is too early to judge this coach. There is no way you can bring a PE teacher to train a National Team and hope to qualify to the world cup. Is it because he was the cheapest? Zambia we are doomed. How many times have we said ‘lets wait and see’. Kalusha look for a coach not a PE teacher. Thank you.

  37. Chipoloplo don’t lose hope you have chances to qualify to the world cup. You need to prepare yourselves for the return match and make Togo. FAZ please take chipolopolo to Europe to prepare for Togo atleast a month.

  38. I am annoyed I move from country to country and I speak much about zambia.I am annoyed,we can afford to miss the Africa cup in Angola, just think about, some people are not serious somwe where.Togo did not even train, they did nt have a coach

  39. #47 Am lozi by tribe and am not UPND even if i personally knew the Late Mazoka.who are southerners ?our subjects ,watch out!!! zambia is not Nigeria where they are prople from the north and South.in zambia we are a Christian country

  40. The loss is tragic. With the game being played outside Togo, we missed our chance to come back with a point. This is a difficult group because it will have only one qualifier. There wont be a runner-up qualifying from this group so Togo who have the momentum know that they just need to beat Swaziland twice (which is an easy task for them) and then frustrate Chipolopolo in Lusaka and come away with a draw. We needs strategy to win all our remaining games. Can the Frenchman do it?

  41. Soccer Fan No 7 Swaziland are no longer cannon fodder. They will lose but not by that margin! We haven’t scored that much goals against them in our last encounters

  42. WHO CARES WAT Y’ALL SAY!!! GET A LIFE! BESIDES WE STILL HAV A CHANCE EISH LETS START BUIDLING THE CITIES INFASTRUCTURE ECONOMY,TRANSPORT AND GET RICH AS A NATION FIRST ETC… THEN WILL SEE MORE POSITIVE RESULTS FROM OUR FOOTBALL LOOK AT ANGOLA ITS AN EXAMPLE BUT SOUTH AFRICA IS A SHAME REGARDLESS.

  43. Haha my predictions Exactly Pipo…exactly…i knew if we lost this game every comment on this site would take a nasty left Turn…and guess what most of u proved me right…!!!

everyone had some prediction of some sort 3-0 3-1 haha

but am sure one day will get there

  44. It really shows how many people we have in Zambia that are soccer sympathisers and not soccer fans. Soccer fans look at the how things might end when the final game is played that is why I like the predictions being made, very optimistic, the game that will determine who goes in the Zambia vs Togo game forget about the other games Swaziland, my God. The soccer sympathiser started watching soccer after 28th April 1993 and we have a lot of such, VIVA ZAMBIA, VIVA FAZ, Abena Renard, katwishi, I am still pessimistic as I have always been about Herve, but coming to think of it RSA is in worse problems 2-0 to Nigeria and Santana is coaching using subtitles, he can’t speak english

  45. Hey guyz we are all sad over the loss because we expected togo to be in turmoil with their coaching problems, but all is not lost. I believe by the time we host togo in september we would have improved enough to beat them by 3 clear goals atleast. VIVA CH Hey guyz we are all sad over the loss because we expected togo to be in turmoil with their coaching problems, but all is not lost. Phanx

  46. I wonder if referees are officially suspended for poor handling of games it’s now a trend in african soccer to experience such noontheless we lost , next should just aim at soccering more goals – BRAVO.

  47. Take heart Zambians. Support your team. It’s the only one you have as the flag bearer of this peaceful NATION. In every game there has to be a victor and a vanguished. This time around, it’s Zambia that is a loser. Despite this setback, let’s carry on supporting our team.

  48. Don’t comfort yourselves you are going nowhere. To tell you the truth SWAZIs are no underdogs they will dissapoint you and i hope you understand that the withdraw of Eretrea from your group puts you in an awkward posn.I know you want to start calculating and praying for others to lose so that you can qualify,SHAME on you.MUKAZINVELAKO NSONI and please understand, you reap what you sow.

  49. #62 true to what you have writen. W L D support has to be there if not the start supporting insolo. Geee Malawi beating Djibouti 8-1? ha ha ha ha soccer has gone to hyenas. anyway no country has to be under rated in the field of play.Kinna Phiri well done.

  50. The last time we were beaten 4-1 but now 1-o with a goal disalloewd.that is an improvement.when togo comes to lusaka it will be hammered, swziland is in for trouble whether in mbabane or lusaka because the boys are wounded wait an see.i still believe chipolopolo will do it

  51. uhh people please. The greatness is exhibited by the ability to rise after the fall. Ever since the Zambia team was close to greatness in the 90s they have continually shown a constant steep fall. The Zambia Team i remember never used to would never count the Team like Togo. And today i sure you can all agree with me that the team we have even struggle to bit the teams like swasiland.Even Egypt used to shake and even struggle to win over zambia but now piece of cake. The Team dont have the substance because the pool of player is very below the standard in the country. The grassroot is not existent and i do not even have to mention the management because you do not have the grand masters.

  52. Go round zambia and source young talent with the following qualities :speed, can play using both legs and know how to drible(quick to drible)and accurate on the goal, sharp thinkers. I can assure you we will be winning and the world cup will come to zambia.

  53. Like in all the other fields the grand masters are there as inspirational figures, guides, referees, to tame the the promising young stars etc but the zambia dont have this. Example what Lesson can Ketani the defense learn from Elija Litana. There is no direction. The Answer to these problems is sambia should start preparing the youth team and incorparate it into the current team with the aim for Caf 2012 and Fifa World Cup 2014. Unless otherwise the french is a Fergie from my vantage point it is quite unrealistic for the sambia to win caf 2010 and make the inpact in SA 2010.i greet you all and wish you well in the allah’s messeger’s name Mahmood

  54. Ama Defenda bonse ur have gotten rid of after one silly mistake

    and still experimenting…haha

Rigobert Song is still goin strong and you think its a Joke when i say we have to stick to the old players and yes maybe a few additions here and there coz thats the only way they learn

lets have a look at Tana, Sichone, Sinkala and see what their fittness levels are and am sure there are some veteran Defenders in Europe hiding somewhere

what happend to our other boys from sweden..???

  55. Hearve, havei whatever your name is! STOP experimenting in crutual encounters like W.cup qualifiers! Mayuka & rainford should make the starting line up next time.

    We are behind you but pls dont dissapoint us again.Get my advise;

Never call Isaac Chansa again…he has never played 90 min without a yellow/red card.Instead consider Sinkala Andrew in the midfield

1.I have read that you do not only need skill but also streangth from players…Pls consider Harry Millanzi up front.

2.Elijah Tana can also be trained and regain his lost fitness. He is exellent in defense once fit.

The other players only need some encouragement they can do better.

Finally,C.katongo was my man of the match again.

  56. iam in agreement with#71 we have no time to starting doing the experiment on crucial encounters like world.c qualifiers. i was in zambia in janury i had a chance to meet ba tana the man is good shape and ready to carry the flag high.am positive the man can do us proud cos he has time olwys in the gimmy. An like other players i met busy chibuku na maule, baiche bola namaule will never be in agreement othr wise we still have chances to qualify lets go guys

  57. Come on fellows. Without a sound national leadership, forget winning anything. LPM, Mutati, Kavindele, the crowd at FAZ are all economic hooligans. Do not expect to achieve anything. These guys are not out to offer a sound leadership and a service to the vast majority of our people. They are out to screw each and everyone of us. This is why the hiring of the new soccer coach was done in secrecy just like the agreements Mutati and LPM keep signing to enslave us all.

  58. Here are all those Zambians who were making stupid predictions about your Team?? Like i told you guys, it’s good to support your team but not making alot of noise before the game, wait for the results then you can make noise. Iam not here to offend anyone but just to say what’s up. Euro 2008 kicks off on June 7, Go ITALY.Again guys, Zambia has a long way to go in soccer. No offence to any of your, Is anyone of you with the best solution for the team?

  59. #71 I hope noone listens to you. Isaac Chansa played for Orlando Pirates for four years without a yellow card or red card. Then at the end of his stint he was given a card and thats when he manhandled the linesman and was given a red card. He is human. he can get frustrated like anyone.

  60. Swazi win was a fluke…then we will embrace the embarrasment on Sunday when we meet Zambia……it was unlucky for Togo to win this match..
    Predictions…..
    ZAMBIA 3-SWAZILAND 1
