Beware of Selfish Politicians, Mpombo

Share

Defence Minister George Mpombo has warned the people of Milanzi Constituency in Katete of Eastern Province not to be used as political ladders by selfish politicians who do not have the interest of the electorate at heart but their personal gains when voted into power.

Speaking at a meeting at Kalapula Village in Katete yesterday where he was drumming up support for the MMD candidate Reuben Banda in the June 26 Milanzi Constituency parliamentary by-election, Mr Mpombo warned the electorate not to vote for people who have failed them before when they were given the opportunity to be members of Parliament.

He observed that Milanzi constituency has remained underdeveloped because the constituency has stuck to the opposition which has failed to bring development to the area.

He assured them that the MMD government was ready to partner with the people of Milanzi in developing the area and that could only be done effectively if an MMD candidate was voted as MP.

The minister observed that an MMD MP would be their better and effective link to government in presenting their problems.

The Milanzi constituency seat fell vacant last year after the death of Dr Chosani Njovu of the United National Independence Party (UNIP.

Voting takes place on June 26.

Political parties contesting the election include the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD), Patriotic Front (PF), United National Independence Party (UNIP), United Party for National Development (UPND) and the All People’s Congress party (APC).

  1. Does the selfless “breed” exist? Can Someone Please give me a name of a selfless politician today in Zambia?

  2. Mpombo is not an exception to Selfish Politicians. How many parties did he jump to and from. He has only stuck to MMD because of the ministerial appeasement accorded to him by Chuchu in payment for the number of kneelings he (Mpombo) does to Chuchu. Come on Mpombo who else do you think you can impress with that cheap talk other than your paymaster?

Is it the opposition’s responsibility to bring development to the area or is the government’s duty? Why must government only develop Milanzi when an MMD candidate is voted for?

Mr Minister, please it is your responsibility as government to better all of Zambians’ lives and livelihood, and not the opposition political parties’.

  4. just another politrician doing in his thing.Sound like Mugabe tricks if you only want to support those in MMD with development and all.Watch out!!!!!!!!Time alone will tell.

  5. mpombo shud retire from politics and allow levy’s son to stand in his constituency, its time for our generation to lay their foundations so that tubeshibe bwino, after all teka farms is in his constituency. We are tired of these old chaps we want ours the fearless and innovative generation to come thru!

  6. nice points #12 there. This is our time as young people. This is an age to use computers to their full capacities instead of just playing music while drinking some coffee or tea.

  7. Some of these things MMD has…? Mpombo can be a good shift-boss at Maamba Coal Mine or a Poultry farmer in Chisanba. He perfoms better in a noisy environment. Why you Ba Luphia Banda send thungs to our peaceful villages? I will never have such things (people) in my next government.

  8. I think he meant to say “beware of all politicians”. By the way “Mpombo” means “Antelope”

  9. 1.Pombo = Big sokwe (Baboonish) in tonga/ila/lenje
2.Impombo = namusya (kudu) in cibemba

So if George is bemba then then Mpombo is kudu/antelope as per #17. In any case the name is Mpombo not Pombo. So I would agree with 17 that its not sokwe or Pombo.

  10. No wonder almost all roads in the copperbelt are full of potholes. There is no water in the townships every where one goes. Zambia is at stand still in-terms of development. We are not even taking advantage of the current good copper prices to develop our dilapidated roads and other major infrastructures. What are nation!

  11. It is time our politicians stopped pettiness and childish thinking. This is the kind of thinking that has made Zambia lag behind in development.Mr Mpombos words are misplaced and must not come from a leader representing people.Mr Mpombo must be the first one to know that government stands apart from any party, therefore development is central and must reach each and every part of the nation regardless which party the member of parliament belongs to.Being in the ruling party does not mean owning government.Government is the people and is for us the people and it must work for us nor matter who represents us.No minister must shine at the expense of my suffering. We need to be sensetaised………

  12. FROM#20..We need to be sensitised as a people,we need to know that we own government and not the president and his ministers. If we are a sensitised nation Mr Mpombo could not have said that and run away with it.For him to have said that people must not be used by selfish leaders,he must as well as tell us a more.He must tell us who they are and how selfish they are.If they, the ones he refers to have used developmental funds for their own purposes because they must account for it,pay back and at the same time be prosecuted. We do not want wild talking but substance talking.

  13. Mpombo belongs to the family tree. He is mwanawasa’s cousin. He is Lamba from kafulafuta on the copperbelt.

  14. Mpombo people should beware of you ****** we.Iwe nimatuvi chabe your appointment is based on tribal lines. Why should you even have the gats to talk about politicians ububi kolwe.

  15. I remember this George Mpombo from Ndola. He spent many years trying to develop a farm in Ndola that I bet is still in its infancy stage.

Switched to MMD in the 90’s and now talks about selfishness as a primary topic in his speech. He’s like many Zambian politicians that talk the talk!!Doesn’t he sound like Tentamashimba or Kalumba??

Then one day they will appear in our history books as one of the outstanding Politicians Zambia has ever had.Fellow Zambians wake up and be careful of what you wish for.

  16. Imwe namwe a Mpombo, ati masobela ka!! Is there a politician in Africa who is not selfish? Lets us talk of maybe less selfish maybe but kaya mwe! I can only think of Madiba, Botswana leaders, Kaunda and some of his cronies. Levy is doing fine, but how about you? Kaya mwandini mwe! Tell me, what selfless thing have you initiated for Zambians to thank them for puting you in leadership? I guess you report for work just as usual like civil servants! Show us your sacrifice, selflessness, angelic initiatives which some people are longing to do had they been given the opportunity to have the means to make a difference! All I see from you is consolidating your possition by condeming all who oppose!
