Kalaba Dropped, FAZ Denies Night of Fun

Share

Rainford Kalaba has been dropped from the final 18-man Zambia team to face Swaziland this Saturday in the two team’s second round match of the 2010 World/Africa Cup Group 11 qualifier to be played in Mbabane on June 15.

And Faz has denied media reports that some Zambia players in camp had slipped out of camp last weekend to drink and solicit for sex with prostitutes.

Coach Herve Renard has dropped Kalaba after the Zesco United player failed to turn-up for training camp four days after Zambia regrouped from their weekend league commitments on Sunday.

Kalaba was a non-playing member of the team in their opening Group 11 match away to Togo that Zambia lost 1-0 in Accra, Ghana on May 31.

The midfielder is the second high profile player to be dropped from the team after club-less striker Collins Mbesuma was cut by Renard for failing to report to camp.

Renard meanwhile has handed a recall to City of Lusaka defender Ackson Phiri to the fold after 4 years in the wilderness.

Phiri was a regular under Kalusha Bwalya during his first 12 months in charge four years ago when the defender was still at National Assembly.

Injured striker Jacob Mulenga of French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg is in the team despite his continued recovery from a broken nose sustained three weeks ago at his club.

Striker Felix Sunzu of Avenir de La Marsa in Tunisia has been handed his first call-up under Renard’s charge since the Frenchman took over of Zambia on May 16.

Sunzu together with his young brother Stopira, midfielder of Zanaco, will be one of two sibling pairing in this Zambia team for this weekends outing.

The other is the brothers Katongo; Christopher and Felix.

Meanwhile Faz has issued a statement in denying as lies media reports of some unidentified number of Zambia players where involved in an orgy of sex and beer last weekend at the teams training camp in Lusaka.

“It is unfortunate that some people bent on peddling unfounded and maliciously concocted fabrications are attempting to tarnish the name and imagine of our national team and disrupt the boys focus on the game this weekend in Mbabane,” the statement said.

“They are doing this by peddling a story that some of our boys are engaging in binge drinking and acts of prostitution at Ndeke Hotel (Where they are camped).

“None of the lies that have been broadcast of published relating to beer drinking and prostitution have anything to do with the Zambia national soccer team.”

Zambia leaves for Swaziland on Friday at 07:20 in the morning.

  1. Zed will whack Swazi so that they can shut up. Remember how we beat SA in Cape Town
    Zambia 3-Swaziland-0

  2. Mashaba is going to learn that football is NOT played in the media but on the pitch. 1-0 in favour of Zambia then 3-0 for the return leg in Chililabombwe again in favour of Zambia.

  3. drop all these tu ma indisciplibed chaps man!that’s a good move…Zambia will go on even if they leave!!chipolopolo go boys!!

  4. I like this coach. He does not subscribe to indiscipline. Keep it up. Advice to mwaiche Kalaba, do not be big headed now. Look at what is happening to Mbesuma, lets not hope you will heading that direction soon.

  5. It appears the coach has brought in discplinary action in our team which is good for us even if we reamin with not so pwerful players at the end.

All the best as you face Swaziland, Chipolopolo boys.

  7. Now this story about the boys slaughtering prositutes is disturbing. There is no smoke without fire, however.

  8. Not the boys’ problem! FAZ should have made sure they are camped where there is minimal distraction or that there is a strict curfew on the players! Well, if the boys don’t produce results this weekend, this is a story that will come to haunt the coach and FAZ. Go Zambia, Go!

  9. The squad looks fine for me.we could have problems in the midfield but if the defence will hold then we should win by a goal atleast otherwise a draw will be a fair result. It is good the coach is taking bold decisions to drop players from the squad regarding issues going on with star players such as kalaba and mbesuma.2-1 for zambia

  10. nice to drop that chap. we should only allow good mannered people to represent the whole nation.carrying that flag is no circus atall.even now thats why kalu is respected outside Zambia.real stars like young Ronaldo,Dragoba.. dont even boast.they are more than proud to represent their countries.

  11. Our midfield is very, very weak. It will be very dificult at the midifield.why Sinkala and Ian Bakala not in the team? Let us wait and see. Swazi is strong in the midfield. cita nobasankwa.

  12. Let the boys socialise with who ever they want. Those players are not monks. Untill recently english players were allowed to go with their girlfriends and wives to major tournament. Did that affect their performance, i dont think so. Remember all work and no made john a dull boy. The best thing to do is give them days on which they can socialise and days which they cant.

  13. Let the boys socialise with whoever they want to socialise with. Those players are not monks. Untill recently english players were allowed to go with there girlfriends and wives to major tournaments. Did that affect their performance, i dont think so. Remember all work and no play made john a dull boy. The best thing to do is give them days when they can socialise and when they shouldnt.

  14. fellow zambians, there is no smoke without fire. it may be true, it may not be true. but if it is true, let those involved realise that they are on national duty, discipline themselves for a few days and enjoy after wards. may God help our national team.

  15. We need a defensive midfielder. Someone who can play what is now called “The Makelele Role”. For me even Chansa is more attacking than defensive-if only Sinkala was fit that would be our hope. Alternatively we could play one defender in that role and sacrifice Stophira. Clifford and Felix could take the wings and Chris play behind the two younsters, Kola and Mayuka. I have always thought Chris
plays better from their just like he did at the last ACN. Our defence however is rubbish and we need to either adopt what Real Madrid previously did or play the formation I am suggesting

  16. With that attitude, Rainford is bound for failure. He is by far a very good midfielder but without disciplne, that counts for zip!!! I mean, he has not achieved anything yet and yet he wants to be ba starring. What a shame!!!

  17. Go Zambia GO. Ba Kalaba, mukule. Ba Mbesuma you are not a disappointment. Thats a compliment. You are stupid.

  18. eh,atleast they are not tombaling each other in the camps at night.chipolopolo…jus the nickname itself tells u a story

  19. I think the new Coach is sending messages to all indiscipline players out there. There is no room for indiscipline, uncoachable players. Let the coach do his work of coaching, managing, discipline, conseling these boys.Let him make his decisions and i bet he will do a very good job.

  20. Chansa will be missed for his red-card. Kalaba displine umwaiche… My starting line:
    1. Kennedy
    2. William Chinyama
    3. Chintu Kampamba
    4. H.Himonde
    5. Billy Mwanza
    6. Umwaiche Stophira
    7. Felix Katongo of course
    8. Felix sunzu (Long time mwaice)
    9. Mayuka (Jacob mulwele)
    10. Ba Chris Katongo (after 2 goals can go out for Chamnga)
    11. Clifford Mulenga (We enjoy your discipline mwaice)

#31 Anonymous, you are FIRED stupid-*****.

  21. #31 Anoymous, you’re a gay fool, come out from the closet fool!! We don’t need your stup!d comments, if you have nothing to write, just continue your business with your gay boyfriend. This blog is for people who post meaningful contributions to our country and the Might Zambia Nation Team. LT don’t let people like #31 write their crap on this blog. Go Zambia!!!!!!!

  22. Its time for judgement again, Go Zambia Go. The team looks to be fine on paper though ndetwishika pa mid field.
    Kalaba wikula umutwe

  23. Sure midfield is a problem. All sansetional ones are missing e.g Kalaba, Chansa, William Ndjovu, Sebatian … what can we do, drop some strikers. Defence is solid this time.

  24. I think the coach is over reacting…he does not even know what Kalaba can do for the team…I played with kalaba ku Mufulira..umwaiche can do wonders…this coach might just destroy the team…umwenso ine!!!! Kalu Please look into this one please

  25. the topic iya beer drinking and whores has nothing to do na ba press….don’t destroy moral mu camp….ba ngwele

  26. haha Aba Kalaba…is he the same Kid that is goin to play in

Portugal Alenyafye…i think he has to get his displine into gear

or he will take over from Mbesuma on this Blog

haha sometimes i wish the team didn’t perish in Gabon

because am sure these kids are Stuffed up due to Lack of Mentors

    and Proper Role Models..

  27. With Kalabas or Mbesumas attitude, do you think they can reach the level of Fernando Torres or Steven Gerrard? Not at all!!.No wonder most of us stopped this business of following this tribal national team(chipolopolo).

  28. My line up;

    1.Mweene
2.Chinyama (Nyambe mulenga can come in later)
    3.Joseph
    4.Kampamba
5.Billy (He is strong only need our support)
6.Sunzu Stophira (not sure if we have another option)
    7.Felix sunzu (exellent)
    8.Felix katongo (up coming star)
9.Mayukwa (Chamanga in after ema scores 1)
10.Chris “Tsunami” (Jackob in in extra time)
11.Clifford (Kola in after cliffd scores 1)

    Predictn…at least a win.

  29. Is Kalaba a problem with his discipline or did I hear that he had a family issue? Anyway the coach seems to know what is required in the team and I am glad he has put discipline as a priority. And abantu they think discipline is just lack of beer drinking, even keeping time is discipline, keeping promises, listnening to instructions etc.

  32. #38 Havana Kid, i think for you to say the new Coach is over reacting over Little Kalaba’s absence from national duties, man, you should have lost your mind too!! The team needs these fools and he will need us to make it whereever he will be playing. Never sh!T where you come from boy. I know Castro is drying things will change in Cuba, so don’t talk crap or else you will end up like those Pros who thought they were untouchable.

  33. Guys according to the what i read is that Kalaba did communicate with Faz and the coach.Collins is the one who did not say anything about his absence.

  34. Well, Zambia are likely to line up Mweene, Chinyama, Muzo, Chintu, Billy in defence, Stophira is an excellent holding midfielder given enough games in the mold of Ptric Viera, Chris Katongo will play off the 2 strikers likely to be Mayuka and Chamanga. Felix and Clifford are likely to be on either flanks. This is the indication from the training sessions I have attended at Woodlands in the run up to the Swazi game. This line up was used yesterday when the Chipolopolo laboured to subdue City of Lusaka courtesy of a Felix Katongo strike. Bar injuries and last minute change of mind by Renard this is the likely line up. Somebody asked about Bakala, he’s gone back to Angola. Amano!!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. Ask my team Togo, you think you ll have it easy in Swaziland. Bola ni pachibansa. you ll prove that on sunday.

  36. the coach says it is not 90% kalaba’s problem. he says it is the agent. but he will be avaliable next week. anyway that is not the issue i think this game will be a easy one zambia will beat swaziland clean. 2-0. talking about guys havin a beer. cum on guys i think most of u guys work but still drink every weekend and maybe everyday after work. i was drinking last night but iam at work. players are not pastors or monks. after traning the can have a beer or two. jst like the coach said. but not 15 beers which is true. it is only that zambians like talking. that story was false. good luck chipolopolo! bravo zed. i like the new coach!!eyes on the ball

  37. THATS A MISS MATCH MUDALA!! THOSE GUYS DNT NEED BEER.THE BEER WILL MAKE THEM COMPLESANT.. WE DNT WQNT THE CHAD NIGHTMARE ON SUNDAY PLIZ.THEY CAN ONLY DRIN WEN NOT IN CAMP..LETS NOT ARGUE BA LULA MORE AT HOME HAHA

  38. I watched some few highlights on ZNBC yesterday, involving a match between Zambia and Swaziland that was played some few months ago. Our National team won 3:0. There was a young Zambian player, who according to both the press and the fans was the man of the match for that game. I just can’t recall his name. He actually scored a brace, and was very much involved in engineering the other goal. Why is this young man not part of the selected squad? Can someone please shade a bit of light on this!!!

  39. but Ka kalaba…how can it behave like this. does it know that Renard is a new broom? He is not like PP who used to ask Ted for an opinion b4 dropping. HR sounds like someone who believes in discipline. Ka Kalaba made fun of the Nkana sapoters when they where hammered by Zesco United later he was awarded as player of the year. I sapoted the boy but not anymore. Do we need to take these boys for brain panel beating?
Ka Kalaba do u know where Emmanuel Zulu is? What about Mbesuma? These boys need a good beating. if they were my children i would have grounded them. Chanibaba.

  40. I’v watched kalaba a number of times at zesco and it is easy to see that the boy has some disciplinary problems. If he doesnt improve i see him failing to tick in portugal. For the weekends match, tulebasepa ba swazi!

  41. Go ZAMBIA GO!! It shamme that kalaba could not join the team, nevertheless the boyz in camp will the job.

  42. I think the zambian press must learn to be patriotic at times.I wonder why at this crucial time, all that is written about the national team is bad.Guys let us motivate our players now and criticise after the game.Go Zambia GO.We can do it.As for Kalaba, the boy is big headed and i wonder if he will make it in portugal.

  43. FIRST LINE UP

    1. KENNEDY MWEENE
    2. CHINYAMA/NYAMBE
    3. MUSONDA
    4. KAMPAMBA
    5. MWANZA
    6. STOPHIRA
    7. CHRIS/ F. SUNZU
    8. FELIX KATONGO
    9. MAYUKA/KOLA
    10. JACOB/JAMES
    11. C.MULENGA

  44. 1.K.Mweene
    2.W.Chinyama
    3.J.Musonda
    4.B.Mwanza
    5.C.Kapamba
    6.S.Sunzu Sub H.Himoonde(15mins to go) 7.F.Katongo
    8.E.Mayuka (J.Mulenga)
    9.F.Sunzu Jnr.(R.Kolala)
    10.C.Katongo
    11.C.Mulenga

Thats my prospective line up.Sorry no place for Chamanga maybe next game.HH Comes in to help the defence as Swaziland are attacking trying to bridge the 2 goal cushion Zed has.Prediction it will a tough game or maybe one sided.

  45. #56 Chimwemwe the boy you might be asking about is 20 year old Power Dynamos winger Kennedy Mudenda, on the day we beat Swaziland 3-0 in the CHAN qualifier game Mudenda scored a brace and had a brilliant game. The game he came on as a substitute was against Botswana which Zambia won again 3-0. He changed the game when we were only leading 1-0. He did not score in this game but created that Mayuka stunner and had a hand in the third goal by Kalaba. Renard was thrilled and commented: ”that no. 3 (SHIRT NO.) is nice!) Mudenda travelled with the team to Togo but was among the 4 dropped. Last weekend, he did not play for POWER, his Coach Fordson Kabole explained that he had malaria.

  46. Thanks for the update ba # 73. You seem to follow Zed football closely. So, what are your predictions in the next Swazi game?

  47. if only the coach paiers well the top men we are going to win……. for sure
jacob ku right wing, c katongo pa 10, james pa 9 aba three should be in the first lineup

  48. Zambia must start with an all out attack formation for the first 15 to 20 minutes.3- 4- 3 by pushing either our left or right back up into in midfield. The Swazis will try to sit back and hope to catch us on a counter by simply packing their midfield. When we get our first goal then we go to a 4 – 4 – 2 formation and if we can manage a second goal then we cement our lead with a 4-5-1 formation ready to strike the Swazis on a counter attack.

  49. Its time our players were accomodating in five star hotels i.e Holiday,Padmozi or Hoel intercontinental. Not in that rumshackle hotel infested with prostitutes. You cant leave groundnuts with koswe and expect koswe to stay put.

  50. Ba Think Tank #78 being modest. It reminds me of the days nali umaiche ku skulu when some people could simply say I concur. Anyway, this forum is not for the timid at heart. Gentlemen, Zambia has to be very cautios in Mbabane. We cannot be over confident and we cant build a wall along the goal mouth the whole game. We must allow ourselves time to settle down and be confident in swaziland. 4-5-1 at for the first 20minutes. Chris can play mu mid. Billy, Joseph, William na Hichani back four. Chintu pa six. (in fact playing deep) You will understand if you have played before. Felix Stophira 8, Felix 7, Cliff 11, Chris 10. (Chris just in front of stophira and sometimes droping lower). Chamanga 9.

  51. Guys, the portuguese media have got the story and already bad things are being written about Kalaba in terms of discpline. It will be a bad start for the boy but i doubt if he will make it here.Any silly mistake he will be booted out.I will be following the developments and will keep u updated.Infact Kalaba,s new club stadium is just across from where i reside so bloggers watch the space for more information.

  52. #74 U r welcome …..fuswa! Or is it Shaka? Am kidding! …fuswa my friend, I can not boast of being an avid follower of Zambian soccer, but I saw Alex Chola-as a 10 year old- line up for Power and Zambia years ago thats how far I have come with Zambia. In these few years, I have never engaged in games of calling games by scorelines. But I expect Zambia to nip it, it MIGHT not be as easy a game as we expect. Very close but I predict a Chipolopolo win. We shall chat on Sunday evening. Stay cool man.

  53. I know Zambia will lose on sunday so I am suffering the emotional disappointment in advance but some of you will suffer after the game on sunday.

I am saying so becuase apart from the strike force ther is no team toalk about unless you live in dream land then you can keep n dream until reality dawns.

    Yours in emotional suffering

  54. I know Zambia will lose on sunday so I am suffering the emotional disappointment in advance but some of you will suffer after the game on sunday.

I am saying so becuase apart from the strikeforce there is no team to talk about unless you live in dreamland then you can keep on dream until reality dawns.

    Yours in emotional suffering

  55. I hope the coach won’t be to hard on the young man. Even Kalaba needs to catch his breath, people are different… But young man be patient, even if that means sitting on the bench, you got be in it to win it.

  56. #84,85 i concur with you.Zambia has no team to talk about.bloggers dont overrate zambia spare ur emotions.I know the truth pains but indeed zambia will lose to swaziland period.

  57. I see Kalaba in 5 year period to be linked in the line-up of Elija Litana, Wawa Chongo, Tana, Jones Mwewa, Happy Sichigolo, Melvin Mwila and many more others who use to be big headed before they made it big in their careers.

  58. # 87

Only the truth will set you free. The time for dreams is gone our team is weak and lacks experience

  59. I think the media have the right to report everything they deem necessary if it is factual. I just hope they are not exaggerating things. I hope they are not getting their stories from third parties. Like someone pointed out earlier, FAZ have to do a better job of camping the team in places where there is minimal to no distractions. I look for Zambia to win this game.

  60. We have conceeded a goal in the first half of every international game we have played lately. We need to focus in defence in the first twenty minutes of each half. Swazis have supprised us too many times in Mbabane for comfort. Other than the cosafa cup first round in 2000 or 2001 when we lost on penalties, Swazis have sneaked a goal from nowhere in every first half against the run of play even when we have outplayed them hands down. In the last 15yrs or so I have been disappointed in swaziland when expectations have been high. I wont be counting my chicks just yet. We shall be ok in Zed maybe another 3-0.

  61. #72 Do u know whom you are talking to man. I am Doctor Khumalo the best player to come out of southern africa. At the moment Iam working with Shakes Mashaba behind the scenes to beat chimpompoloi. In 1997 I masterminded the downfall of Chimpolompoloi 3-0 at Soccer City so I have got the key to strategising and unlocking Zambian opposition.

  62. To say the truth Zambia does not have the team. The problem in Zambia is we dont keep players. All the time we have a new team. We need experience in the team. Look at successful teams. They combine ild and new. Ba Zambia, eehh, katwishi.

  63. I Think we are jus recycling the same old rubbish from comment 1 to comment 98…

    New Topic Please…??

i think 98 points of view are enough..

  64. #99 You are you to dictate people’e contributions sucker? Its upt o LT to decide. Dont tead the comments if you are tired kolwe.

  65. #99 Who are you to dictate people’s contributions sucker? Its upt o LT to decide. Dont tead the comments if you are tired kolwe.

  66. Patriots Patriots Patriots where are you? We are reading nonsense from people who know little more than their first names. Zambia will fly high and you unpatriotic hoodlums will be shamed. Like you were on that beautiful afternoon in Cape Town. Mbabane here we come. Stop us if you can. The Chipolopolo will rip your tuma shields apart and we will help increase your population by sending you stupid unpatriotic zambians to pamper you. Go Zambia Go. Zed Nga talipo….bonse aba nibangwele

  67. Guys around Pretoria and Jo’burg who would like to travel for the game please contact Daniel Mudae on 079 511 5600.Come on guys lets go and show the boys ichimwela by being their physically. The Fee is very reasonable.

  68. I recall a statement made by Renard that he is lacking a defender, would it be a bad idea to try Elijah Tana on trial basis,i think his been great…compared to the trial defence partnerships he is experimenting with.Tana has the character, discipline, command and knack to solidify our defence. Please may he get a chance,if people like little Ackson Phiri can get a call up; how bout him.

  69. I will be giving out 2 free air tickets to Swaziland and i night Hotel accomodationfor the best blog on this story. The entries elligible for this competition are from 1-105. In order to be fair have asked each of the bloggers to select one other than their entries they think is the best entry.Competion ends this evening at midnight.Have done this in appreciation of all of you bloggers.Good luck and God bless you all.

  70. Winners will be announced tommorrow morning.Have sought advice from LT on how to authenticate the winners and this will be done through IP address identification.

  71. Tana has not been performing well for Changa ranger so I hear. Those wh have watched him suggest he is slaggish, slow and not the Tana we knew. He does not deserve to be in the team at the moment until his fitness improves.

  72. Sibs we r game 4 swazi trip. dpature sunday 7am bruma mcdonalds. bullets all the way. axe the boys n go 2 why not club a club which has seen the best of time since 1970

  73. Even if we get 0,it is our team and our brothers there4 stil need to be surpoted by we Zambians. All the best Zambia
