Improve soccer standards, KK prods FAZ

Share

First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda has urged the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to implement programmes that will improve the values of soccer in the nation to achieve better results.

Dr. Kaunda described football as a passionate sport which brought people together irrespective of their background and orientation.

The first republican President said it was gratifying that the soccer fans have remembered his contribution to the development of football and encouragement he rendered to the national team when he was president of Zambia for 27 years.

He said the declining standards of football in the country left much to be desired saying FAZ should endeavour to work out programmes for developing football at primary, secondary and higher institutions of learning.

Dr. Kaunda said this yesterday when soccer fans paid him a visit at his office seeking a blessing in football.

He observed that if the league was weak, it was very difficult to have a strong national team hence the need to improve soccer through engaging players from both rural and urban areas in the country.

Dr. Kaunda also appealed to business houses to support the development of football by sponsoring teams and stressed that the value of sport could only be achieved through strong partnership.

He further stated that the gift the soccer fans have presented to him as a wonderful gift which he said he would treasure for the rest of his life.

He said footballers with strong support played well saying all Zambians should continue rallying behind the national team.

On Zambia’s encounter with Swaziland tomorrow (Sunday) in the Africa Cup and World Cup qualifying match, Dr Kaunda prodded the players to display a high level of discipline and professionalism.

And speaking earlier, the Zambia Federation of Soccer Fans Chairman Pastor Peter Mukembo said he realised that the Zambian footballers could not achieve much and get to higher heights because they had neglected their father, Dr. Kaunda.

Pastor Mukembo said football has deteriorated because there has been no encouragement saying as soccer fans they decided to hand over a gift to Dr. Kaunda because it was the only way the boys could get encouraged.

He said Dr. Kaunda would be invited to watch all football games played within the country to motivate the boys.

  1. Tough luck to the Kalampas again atleast the local derby has been revived. Those days the City of Kitwe was split into half when Nkana was playing Power.

  2. Thanks KK for your works and we remember the glory days of of KK Eleven. Independence Stadium was a slaughter house and we never lossed a game in 20+ yrs. He who have hears to hear in FAZ , Fans, parters and the corporate world, follow KK’s advice.

  3. We have to improve living standards first if we need to do better in other sectors of life. Good Soccer standards are a by-product of other social amenities that have since dwindled to oblivion. If schools cannot produce such players, very soon we should say bye bye to the glorious standards of beating every team in Southern region. Zambia did not ask for prayers to beat Swaziland. Now it seem we have to spend our “nights at the grave” at Independence to win a game. We might be blaming players forgetting that we are not investing in these life changing sports. I think the economy and some politicians are to blame. Sad scenario.

  4. How have our footballers neglected KK Pastor Makembo? And how does that reflect directly on the footballers success? Pastor concetrate on the church, politics is not your thing ok!

  5. 44 years and counting and the National team still camps at hotels. All it would have taken during the Kuanda time is improvise a ZCCMM into a camp house?

My point is how come after all these years we do not have a premanent residential lodge with all the modern amenities ie. gym , movie room , pool and library etc.

KK if u read this please put my proposals accross.

  7. Bane let us take it easy. KK ris soccer fan number one, no doubt, but he ruled Zed from 64 until 90, how come we still do not have a decent Stadium. What did he do to improve infrastructure, nothing at all. So ba Kaunda shikulu thank for supporting our national team “mu kanya fwe” all zedians are welcome to do that. Stadium eyo tule fwaya chapwa

  10. Football academies worldwide are fronted and funded by succesful players abroad.Look at Abedi in Ghana and Weah in Liberia, they have put their money where their mouths are.
KK and Hapunda destroyed the Dag stadium with no firm plans for building a new.
However, the team should still revert to the name ‘KK II.!!

  11. Much as Zambia’s soccer standards have dwindled, our national soccer team competes with the best on the African continent and some teams struggle to beat Zambia, yet their leagues have improved and a lot of money is being pumped into their leagues.Viva Chipolopolo! Viva KK 11

  12. One of the former satanist confess tht KK sacrificed the previous Team tht perished in the coast of Gabon, evry birthday theres something tht he does in the sicret. Please dont give the davil a foot hole he will do the same to this Team

  14. Hero worshiping or just some headline grabbing stunt. What blessings are we to expect from KK?? Why should the team be called KK11?? It was at the time becoz it was all done to appease KK & not for any other reason. As rightly pointed out what did he do for soccer in Zambia for all the years that he was president, other than try to bask in their glory when ever they were victorious?

  15. kk couldnt even build a stadium.that independence stadium was for 1964.how many years did he rule? if kk has nothing to say its better to keep quiet.

  16. KK is left no structures behind. The way forward is for KK to outline his mistakes and success. He should not only concenrate on his achievement as a founding father. He forgot to mention that economy has a key role to play in our falling soccer standards

  17. In KK’s days teams were sponsored by companies. We had an economy that was 80% government owned and therefore they were bound to support sport. For example BOZ had the best volleyball team in Zambia those days because the players were well looked after and even employed by the bank. The same goes with the ZCCM sponsored teams of the 80’s, Mighty, Power, Kalampa, Brave Rangers, Stylish Roan. Let us also remember how the army looked after GBFC, and how ZR looked afer Kabwe Warriors.

We need to learn from our past in order to jack up the eroding soccer standards.
