Civic Leader Nabbed for Stealing Cement

Share

A civic leader in Mansa has been arrested for allegedly stealing six pockets of cement meant for construction of a bridge in his ward.

Muchinka ward councilor Cornelius Musenge was arrested yesterday for stealing the cement which was allocated to construct the Milambo bridge across the Mansa river.

Mansa Municipal Council Spokes person Christopher Mumba confirmed to ZANIS.

Mr. Mumba said earlier this year Mr. Musenge had collected 15 pockets of cement worth K1, 200,000 million from the council’s stores which he took to his house.

The spokesperson further said that Musenge had instructed the contractor of the bridge to be collecting the commodity from his house whenever it ran out at the site.

But after the cement ran out Musenge failed to account for six bags after the bridge construction works stalled because of lack of cement.

During a full council meeting yesterday Musenge informed the house that the six pockets of cement which he failed to account for were at his house.

But police who went to check for the six pockets of cement could not find the bags.

Musenge has been charged theft by public servant and would be appearing in court soon

  2. People in certain offices have been taking advantage and this is practical in most councils. Its time they started arresting them

  3. Please arrest him and lets not hear of him again. This shows the calibre of some zambian leaders. So cheap and not worthy their offices.really disgusting. We should not glorify thefts.lets help the gvt get rid of such people

  4. This is the same as Sata keeping a shushushu car claiming he does not know why Xavier Chungu gave it to him. Bu Sakala kwena bwacila mo in the Northern Alliance Katangese tribes.

  5. Sakala na Geg ubupuba, hows has this turned tribal?
Sakala just look at your name before you start calling others thieves (Ba sakala)

  6. Maazi akwe. Cage him till christ comes as he is a danger not only to himself but also to development. I dont agree with # 6. Anyone who commits a crime has to be prosecuted and if overwhelming evidence is adduced, then they will be caged. If one can not be trusted with small things how much more with the national tresurry? All thiefs whatever their status should be caged before they still our souls and identity. Chimangeni

  7. It doesnt matter what level of the case it is.the law is there and all those that break it in whichever way must face the law.Arrest him and let him rot there.#6 i dont see why you glorify wrong doing.we need examples for the young ones.If you know any one in gvt who did the same pleaswe tell us and we shall call for the same law to apply to them too.No double standards here.We dont need leaders that abuse their positions.#
Can also say please dont turn this to tribal rumblings.Lets condenm what is wrong and so far the tribe is not wrong.Lets go for the individual and what he did.

  8. 15 whatever the case its NOT the tribe but the individuals from that tribe.Generalising will only cause unreasonable wrangles which dont help at all. There are so many honourable people from all the tribes in Zambia who have done a lot for the country and it will be unfair to bundle them with such wrong doers.Kapwepwe,Mudenda, kaunda,Nkumbula,Chona,Zulu etc etc come from the rich diversity of zambian tribes and have done their part in putting Zambia where it is today.Ofcourse the Chilubas cant equal theirsacrifices. we lose nothing in attacking wrong doing without attacking innocent tribes

  9. ACC retires Banda

    By By Amos Malupenga
Nixon Banda has been retired as Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) director general, ACC commissioner Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika (Aka) confirmed yesterday.

  10. Asked to comment on rumours or speculation that President Levy Mwanawasa refused to extend Banda’s contract on the pretext that he Banda was targeting the President’s relatives or associates for prosecution, Aka said:

“That is not true. The law is very categorical and nobody should start fishing for other reasons.

  11. DEC lawyer demands Chitoba’s explanation on missing K345m
    By Noel Sichalwe

DRUG Enforcement Commission (DEC) senior legal counsel Keith Mweemba yesterday said suspended commissioner Ryan Chitoba and his deputy Jacob Koyi should explain the whereabouts of the K345 million withdrawn from the asset forfeiture account.

This is a case where Chitoba, Koyi and commissioner for administration, Charles Ndulumina, are charged with 20 counts of theft by public servant, involving over K345 million

  12. Guys lets not spare any one president or not relative to the pope or not, what is wrong is wrong buit lets check the facts first.Who was due to be prosecuted and what did they do.If someone knows please share with us and we will voice our disgust.Has Nixon Banda reached retirement age?Lets get the facts.we need to ruthless to set examples for young zambians. No corruption in Zambia.I remember in my UNZA days a fellow student led a Demo against the police led by his own dad who was a police chief at the time. What is wrong is wrong and it doesnt matter who is doing it.Lets be objective

  13. #21 You just beat me to that song!!Most leaders steal but do not just get caught.
Lets target grand theft, not trivial chicken thieves.

  14. #22Every thief must be punished.we shouldnt wait till they become big thieves other wise we wont manage them.Look at Chiluba, even England is struggling with him.Katumbi is free.Katele Kalumba, Chungu etc these are big thieves who are difficult to bring to book.I wish we tackled them before now.we dont want to regret again

  15. Imwe gayizi!!! it just shows how stealing/corruption is entrenched at Zed. All these are corrupted/chiefs: Nixon banda, katele, chungus, chitoba, mathan etc even aka will get absorbed in it (how come he supports bad people). Once they get in there everybody turns into it. I doubt if levy is clean now

  16. Off topic people.
Please help. What has happened to live radio streams on Coppernet? What has one got to do listen live now?

  17. Guys we have a lot of people with a lot of information about their thefts.Lets finish with them before we start speculating on others. We tend to get diverted away and end up not dealing with issues.Another guy called Mike has exposed a lot more about ba mwenye’s corruption in Zambia and it makes some stinking reading. We need a solution,a way of dealing with these issues. If it means matching all over the world to force the gvt to act then i am up for it.Ofcourse courts in Zambia are a shame for failure to do what they are there for.Only Richard Sakala has served his term but obviously common knowledge tells you he wasnt alone.Common guys lets rise and voice our concerns for mother Zambia

  18. Imagine if the people constructing the bridge had decided to use more sand and less cement to make up for the missing cement. The bridge would have been weak and a disaster in waiting. That coucilor must be arrested. His case shouldn’t be dropped till it reaches its conclusion.

  19. No 15, try to think and act in a more civilized manner. Fro your writing, one can easily tell that you are cheap material with no substance. You are just too personal. Please stop stereotyping people .

  20. NO 15, stereotyping a group of people is barbaric in itself to say the least. By the way, you will be shocked to learn that some of these names are found in many areas in Zambia. Eg Chibanda could be Soli, which she is, Chitoba could be Tumbuka which he is, Kabwe could come from Northen, Luapula or N/Western, etc. So, lets be sober and deal with wrongs done by individuals and not bring in a commuinity in its entirety. Change your ways of thinking.

  21. 29 SOME THINGS ARE BETTER LEFT TO PASS BY THAN DEFENDING A WELL KNOWN FACT. ARE YOU IN SYNC WITH THESE THEIEVS. STOP YOUR MISGUIDED AND SHALLOW ANALYSIS AS YOU WILL JUST EXPOSE YOUR INTELLECTUAL DEFICIENCES YOU SON OF A GUN

  22. #25 there is a virus on the live radio streams on coppernet. Dont even try it, they gave me a tough time.

  23. Is he a relative to the ex army officer involved in the other corruption which is in the courts at the moment?

  24. No 30, I will just advise you to be sober in your contributions. Which ‘well’ known fact are dying to peddle around? I repeat, I do not agree with you that an entire tribe or group of tribes can be thieves, no. Individual wrongs is what should be dealt with. Count me out of your tribal nonsense! I responded to a specific posting by helping the individual see that its not what s/he thinks. From your comments it appears you can not be blamed for the way you have been brought up, rather your upbringing was gravely mishandled. Its not your fault! You cant change overnight! Continue

  25. #9,15, who do think u re to talk abt bembas in this manner ?u knw u guys or girls bembas are jst brave not cowards thts why all is happening from their.incase u wan join us pliz dont jst talk join and make monie otherwise u will die poor.

  26. If you steal a little ,the send to prision/if you a lot you became rich and famous. which one would you choose for yourself. The guy wanted to meet endsmeat.

  27. 6 bags of cement x K 50,000.00 = K 300,000.00 only, this will send you to prison.I find you guilt and You will be imprisoned for 6 months only or pay a fine of K 525,000.00 only.
