ZANIS - Authorities at Siavonga district hospital have removed the bullet from the leg of the 32-year old man of Siavonga Township who was recently shot and wounded by plain clothed Zimbabwean security personnel.
The victim was shot while fishing on Lake Kariba on Sunday.
And Siavonga-based senior security officers on Wednesday called for an urgent meeting with their Zimbabwean counterparts where the Zambian authorities expressed their displeasure at the shooting incidence.
Armed Zimbabwean security personnel on Sunday shot and wounded Peter Mumba a resident of Kanyelele compound in the left calf when they found him fishing on the lake.
The Zimbabwean security personnel on Sunday opened fire at Mumba on allegations that he was conducting his fishing business on their side of the lake.
Siavonga Hospital Medical Superintendent Joseph Kabungo confirmed to ZANIS in Siavonga today that a bullet that remained in Mumba’s leg following the shooting incidence that occurred on Sunday night was finally dislodged from his leg.
Dr. Kabungo said the 32 year old man was taken to the theatre yesterday were medical personnel at the hospital managed to conduct a successful operation that led to the removal of the bullet.
Dr. Kabungo said although Mumba has continued to lie in pain, his condition remains stable.
And senior security officers in the border town disclosed that they were forced to call for a meeting with their counterparts from Kariba in Zimbabwe because they felt the shooting of Mumba was unnecessary and unfair.
Reliable sources told ZANIS that the Zimbabweans conceded that it was wrong for them to use live bullets in such circumstances and apologized to Zambian officials for the injury caused.
The meeting involving various security wings from Zambia and Zimbabwe was held in the office of Siavonga police station officer-in-charge Charles Saimba.
Earlier Mumba told ZANIS from his hospital bed that he was shot in the left leg by plain clothed Zimbabwean security personnel that confronted them while fishing on the Lake.
Mumba, who insisted that he and his colleague were conducting their fishing business on the Zambian side of Lake Kariba, said the incidence happened on Sunday night around 20: 30 hours.
He said while fishing, a boat approached them and started firing gun shots at their small engine boat shooting him in the process.
Mumba said his colleague upon realizing danger dived in the water and disappeared.
Mumba said he was picked from his boat by six plain clothed armed Zimbabweans who after noticing the wound decided to take him to neighboring Kariba Hospital where he spent his night on Sunday.
He said while in the Zimbabwean hospital, the health personnel their tried to remove the bullet but failed and later decided to drive him back to the Zambian boarder where they handed him to the Zambian officials at Kariba Boarder post.
Mumba further disclosed that he saw his boat sink into the water after the engine and the body was damaged by the shots that were fired at it.
Stable seem to be the buzz word in Zed, I am also stable here in Namibia
Xenophobia. Lets get them out of our country as well. The problem with us Zambians is that we are too soft if not stupid
*****s. The man was not armed so their lives were not in danger. We should also start shooting their thousands of citizens who are straying into Zambian territory.
these are heartless people and you are going to see when their economy goes back to a normal level.we will be beaten again.i for one who experienced it twenty years ago do not trust them.though i dont rejoice in seeing people suffering but the situation has taught them something,we will one day miss this same mugabe.look how we helped S.africa and what has it done to us,totally nothing.
MUGABE NIWE WADEO WAMBA UPAYA BA ZEDIANS chifuka their presdo the did not teach how saviour the stokes. COWARD!
Hahahahahahahhaha!
#2 Please dont follow Zimbabwe’s foolishness from the especially from the politicians.Xenophobia in Zambia will kill our country. As a Zambian,I was privileged to work in the rural areas and I found out that a lot of so called foreigners are great hard-workers especially those from Zim. Talk about Mkushi, Mumbwa, Chiawa, Chongwe, Southern province. Zambia is best the way it is. Don’t bring back vigilante mentality.
Sad story to read. The man was busy earning a living and to be shot at for nothing. Shame!
Xenophobic in Zed against Mugabeans ….hahahahahaaa…it’s about to start, slaughter them at Intercity(zimbo women) and move to the guys by burning them.
Looks like Mugabe is now bored with killing his people and wants some Zambian blood as well. Very annoying.
I dont udsrstand why it is always Zambians being shot. Zimbabwean strays on our side of the border and we ignore them. Our security pesonels are just cowards! I wonder why we keep on wasting money on them.
It is better to shoot Zimbabwean *****s as they have no respect for Zambians. If I was a sheriff I would pull the trigger on sight because these people have been looking down on Zambians for a long time!! Hit them!
The whites draw the boarders of Zambia and Zimbabwe. We are one.200 years ago there was no Zambia or Zimbabwe only black people living in the land.
Am sorry to the man but could it be possible that he was wearing an MMD T-Shirt with mwanawasa’s potrait? Curious!
be alert zambia, zimbabwe will never appreciate.like S Africa.ba mpombozi bemyafye imichila to fellow zambians.no wonder i wont come back! just sorry, for shooting a zambian.cheap life! i have noticed outcry on trivial issues but not on sensible isssues like this one.no wonder Zambia will be the same forever.nanomba? we need rocktet scietists.sorry, not me
The quality of postings by the bloggers and their English language command is really worth noting and conclude that the poor quality of education in Zambia has become so poor under the MMD that this party must be disbanded for good. It has done untold damage to the well-being of our country and there is no reason to mourn its looming demise should a real democratic national and general elction be carried out. Bloggers think that all Zambians know Bemba or Lamba, revealing their narrow-mindedness and lack of appreciation of the larger Zambia! No wonder Zambia is such a laughing stock as soon as one crosses the border into any country around it. It is like we are all in a kindergarten!
LT, Zambia Police shot and killed a suspected criminal in Lusaka is one of the headlines in THe Post. So if Zambia Police can shoot to kill how will foreigners like Zimbabwe’s security forces treat suspected inflitrators on Lake Kariba? Crossing another country via ungazatted points is illegal anywhere, and I wonder why we should be blaming Zimbabwe’s security forces for shooting our citizens on Kariba at night when it is well known that Zimbabwe has been put into a corner by imperialist forces so that the Whites can grab power again! Shame of ignorant Zambians and their sick GRZ.

“STABLE” haha…nice one, unfortunately our journalists are still stuck in some time warp curriculum machine that keeps their vocab ancient. I mean, just listen to any zed radio 5yrs after a stint in the diaspora and you will be greeted by the same ole music, personalities(eg. mutubila nd maduma)and worse still the same senior civil servants have not retired yet(just keep dying black their white hair).
And we wonder why a breath of fresh air in our nation is elusive.
I have one word for the security personel manning our borders, DOCILE. These guys understand the ramifications of their actions and use tact or argue in the altenative as they did when they duplicated the number plate sys

These guys(zim chaps) understand the ramifications of their actions and use tact or argue in the altenative as they did when they duplicated the number plate system(car reg system).
\This is a sad story.Where are our security personel too?Someone fishing does not warrant a bullent in his leg.Why does Zimabwe always use violence to solve problems. We should not be lenient on them when thsy come to Zambia.RThey are just stupid heartless people.*****s
#15,16 A good command of English s longer a bench ,ark for good education.Go to England and listen to the native English spaekers even on radio. The essense of language has been down graded as for communication only unless you are employed as such.Gone are the days when every one was so strict about this foregn language.
Also i think you are not Zambian because there is no Zambian as stupid as you are whop can support the use of arms to unarmed individuals.what is wrong is wron no matter who does it
#15,16 A good command of English is no longer a bench mark for good education.Go to England and listen to the native English speakers even on radio. The essense of language has been down graded as for communication only unless you are employed as such.Gone are the days when every one was so strict about this foregn language.Dont be duped. I taught English both in Zambia and England and i know what i am talking about
Also i think you are not Zambian because there is no Zambian as stupid as you are whop can support the use of arms to unarmed individuals.what is wrong is wron no matter who does it
Sorry man,Bombeki has started he promised that who ever want war with him will have a test of SALT.
….all the way from Luapula to go and fish in Lake Kariba. Zimbabwe police should continue shooting them because they disrespect the boarders. These stupid fools think, it is in Luapula river where Congo and Zambia do not respect boarders and cross like animals.
It is no longer safe to live by the borderline with Zimbabwe anymore. Is there anything like the Zambian Border Forces? They should be there protecting our citizens from trigger-happy leprechauns like the ones in the story!
#19 I agree with you. # 15 & 16 after perusing through your blogs I can tell that you are not highly educated.
Please if you have nothing reasonable to say, just read and keep quieet.Zambians deserve to be respected. You are an *****, sir!!
#15& 16, if you dont know, your level of english is like a grade 7 or 9 drop out in Zambia! It looks like you are among those epeople that hate Zambians for nothing. For your informtaion, Zambians are among best english speakers in Southern Africa.
I think your country envy Zambians, its like your neigbhour owns a Merc and you say he owns a Fiat just because you hate him. I borrowed this phrase from another blogger, which I think has a lot of practical application. Go to school!!
#15, what do you mean by: “its like we are all in kindergatten”? Don’t say we, say I. You are the one who sounds ignorrant and kindergartenish. I’ve been out of Zambia before and have not been a loughing stock. With your manner of reasoning, its not surprising that you are a loughing stock as an individual. Don’t label the whole nation as ignorant just because you are ignorant. Infact I’m hve a tough time believing you are truly Zambian.
Before you talk about the quality of other people’s postings, check the quality of your posts first. Your writing style is horrible, stale. So the next time you feel like throwing stones, ensure that your house is not made of glass.
The problem is that our Government does not care about its people.GRZ has never had any security forces to patrol the border line on lake Kariba and Siavonga police has no capacity and has never had capacity to protect the local citizens fishing from lake kariba against the zimbabweans. The only forces you can find are only the Kariba dam wall itself. To the best of my knowledge Police has never even owned a boat to use in that effect. I dont blame the zimbabweans, we have our own selves to blame. Shame on us, shame the GRZ, Zambians we are toooooooo negligent just talking all the time.
#27 i’m not attacking you personally, check your spellings because you are trying to attack another blogger on an issue about written mwana.
#29 (Livingstone), #15 is attacking all Zambians, saying we are of kindergarten quality yet Zambians are the best in almost all areas. His post does not potray sound reasoning yet he is attacking other bloggers. I usually don’t make a big deal out of people’s spellings on blogs. Infact people even miss entire words even on American and British blogs! It is the content of the post – the reasoning that tells me what kind of person the author is.
He even goes to the extent of saying “shame on the ignorant Zambians and their sick GRZ” (#16) when he is the one who is making wrong comparisons. I was just reminding him/her that the quality of his blog is also poor.
This is what I pulled out the Zambian CONSTITUTION
Article 45 Vice-President
(1) There shall be an office of Vice-President of the Republic. (2) The Vice-President
shall be appointed by the President from among the members of the National
Assembly.
RB does not qualify as VP according to item 2.
The vice president is illegaly on the sit? Iyee. #31 are you sure there is nothing else on VP in the current constitution? I remember some dust being raised the first time such an appointment was made (ie. the appointment of Nevers Mumba). RB is lucky.
#23. Kanene, are you a Zambian. Tonnes and tonnes of Zimbabweans are caught every day here in SA on the SA/ Zim border trying to jump over the razor wire fence and are never shot at. Zim govt has got a hidden agenda, remember Mugabe a couple of days ago said he had info about a military invasion of his country from one of the neighbours and probably the poor fishermen could have been mistaken to be MDC sponsored invaders
#33, the only Iron Lion I know is Mr. Marley. Anyway, my aunthetic contribution after rethinking is that: Africa was one before colonial masters came and drew borders which are still causing feuds. It is time we found ways of getting rid of these movement restrictions among Africans.
#15,16 i think you just have a problem with your head.whats the ‘crime’ when one fuses in two or three bemba, lozi or kaonde words? go to any country even S africa here.even the english you are talking about, some words are from other languages.research pliz and dont be scared to visit chainama hospital.
#30 no no don’t be too emotional, then #15 is useless.I get your point mwana this time.Bombeki is being backed by China, Russia and other powerful blocs, check post paper for july 13 2008.Then he was right to say the neighbors that want war they will taste salt from him?
