An HIV/AIDS Activist has called on men to desist from being shy and be circumcised for them to be a remedy to reduce the pandemic.
Mr. Robert Manengu, who is also the Vice Chairperson for Mize Cultural Association in Choma, told ZANIS in Maamba that men should be circumcised to save them from perishing.
Mr. Manengu said it was a well known fact world over that circumcision could reduce the HIV/AIDS pandemic to about 60 percent.
He said as long as people from other cultures fail to practice circumcision the pandemic would continue to cause suffering among Zambians.
“The problem is that men are ignorant about circumcision but in North Western province where circumcision is practiced the HIV/AIDS infections are lower as compared to other provinces in the country,” Mr Manengu said.
He noted that circumcision was no longer a cultural issue but a broad based remedy that could reduce the HIV/ADS infection.
Zambezi Escarpment Development Forum (ZEDFORM) Executive Director Nalukui Sitali said if people fail to treat HIV/AIDS seriously the pandemic would continue to affect them.
Mr. Sitali said they would be no meaningful development in the country if the pandemic was not addressed at the grassroots level.
Mr. said at the HIV/AIDS education campaign in Maamba were his organization partnered with Mize Cultural Association using the ‘Makishi’ dancing troops to entice people to come for HIV/AIDS messages.
He said his organization despite having no donor funding it has managed to continue disseminating HIV/AIDS to the local people in Sinazongwe and Choma district.
Maamba people in Sinazongwe district were treated to rare menu of entertainment in which the Makishi from Mize cultural association charmed the residents with their Luvale songs and dances.
The group camped in Maamba from Monday to Friday to intertain people and to educate them on the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Being circumcised just reduces chances of getting the infection as the play field is keratinized as opposed to an easily bruised uncircumcised machine. It is an individual decision but people should be informed of any scientific benefit. Truth is, as per current acceptable research, for a man, if you dont bruise yourself whatsoever then your chances are extremely slim where as for a woman because of the anatomy chances are always higher than in men. Don’t criticize the article before you even know what he is talking about. In the world today we all know there is no cure or vaccine for HIV/AIDS yet. In one study circumcision has been found to reduce the chances of catching the virus to as low as 35%. The study also goes on to say that circumcised men who use condoms stand even higher chances of avoiding the virus. But note and note well that these are just chances being reduced not completely avoiding the virus. So if you think just because you are circumcised you can go on rampage you will be sorry. If you are circumcised and you use condoms and the woman is properly lubricated during intercourses you could be talking of 99% safety.

There has been this so called low HIV/Aids prevalence in Western & North western provincebut without an accompanying extensive study with a control group. These provinces may have low levels of HIV/Aids may be due to their culture & customs (upbringing & way of life) which is totally unrelated to circumsision. Just the other week one school girl was alleged to have developed male genital organs after sleeping with a married man in Nakonde area. This is my experience. Married to an HIV wife for for 8 years and still negative. I however discovered my wifes status 2 yars after our wedding. Meaning I have stayed with hear for six years of that status to my knowledge. But because we could not devorce we have stayed just like that. I believe its somehow because of circumcision. Lets give it some consideration. It plays some role in the reduction. But its all up to the way u take it. I was in Kenya some 2 weeks ago and the prime minister Mr Odinga openly appealed to some elders from a certain tribe to consider the circumcision aspect in their tribe.
I think we should all swallow our traditional pride and begin the cut. Reasearch has shown that HIV is less prevelant in areas where the cut is practiced. Whats the shame about, after all even our Lord Jesus Christ underwent it. Lets take all measures that should reduce the risk even if it was by a very small percentage while encouraging faithfulness and abstenance.
Does tradition have anything to do with people not getting circumcisd?Circumcision should be encouraged as just one way of HIV prevention but people should continue to go by the other ways of HIV prevention the ABC(Abstinence,be faithful and use a condom) strategies because to those who misunderstand circumciosn the will take it as a chnace to have live sex with many women because the dont have adequate information.
I agree with the man of reason.One important aspect to HIV prevention is MEN PLEASE CONDOMS,u have the power to drive the sexual activity.SEX with a condom is just as good whether circumsized or not……….
The uncircumcised penis is sweeter and comes fastest but leaves the partner in the lurch if you know what I mean! The circumcised one is not very bad though all the nutrients have hardened. I hear it is most partners’ favourite cos it takes a bit of time to come and gives enough time for the partner who is slow in coming to come. It however is not good for those partners who do not like a very lengthy rough ride.
Aids does not descriminate – circumcised or not. The fact is you will surely catch it if you do get careless.
