Can Mayuka Inspire Under-20 to 2nd Round?

Share

Zambia Under-20 are away in Mauritius to try and confirm their Rwanda 2009 Africa Youth Cup 2nd-round qualifying stage passage when they face their hosts in Curepipe on Sunday afternoon.

Oswald Mutapa’s side lead via a narrow 1-0 win from the 1st first leg played on June 29 at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.

Nchanga Rangers midfielder Tom Bakala, who will miss misses the crucial 2nd leg due to injury, scored that lone goal courtesy of a 18th minute free-kick in the 1st half.

Bakala’s goal put a shine on Zambia performance at Woodlands after the sides’ strikers struggled throughout the first leg to find the target.

However with the inclusion of Kabwe Warriors striker Emmanuel Mayuka, Mutapa will be hoping his side can finally spark to life and progress comfortably to the 2nd qualifying stage.

Mayuka, current one of the senior team’s mainstay strikers with 3 international goals this year, returns to the Under-20 side for the first time since December last year after an impressive outing at the Cosafa Under-20 Championship.

The Warriors striker scored 4 goals in 3 group matches before the team made an early 1st round exit.

Mayuka is also set to reunite with Zanaco’s slick midfielder Henry Banda who light up Zambia’s brief Cosafa Under-20 campaign last year.

Both are expected to be key in the return leg with hopes on Banda to reproduce his stand-out 2nd half display at Woodlands after replacing left-back Lameck Tembo in the 44th minute.

Victory for Zambia will see them book a prospective date against Egypt in the final 2nd round qualifying stage.

Egypt currently enjoy a 5-0 lead over Zimbabwe from the 1st leg played a fortnight ago in Cairo and the two sides are also in action on Sunday at Rufaro Stadium in Harare.

  3. Hi guys,

I know that I caused some trouble a few weeks back by giving details of a site that I thought streamed ZNBC live, but it turned out that the site was showing tv that was weeks old! Anyway, I have done some searching on the net and think that I have found a live stream of the U20 match.

    www(dot)mbcradio9dot)tv/index(dot)php

Have a look on the right hand side of the screen and there is a scrolling advert that you need to click on.

I hope it works, at least my tip is free this time!

  4. I’ve just returned from a quick shopping trip (completely necessary) and the link isn’t working anymore. Maybe it’s because of half-time. I will keep on trying.

  5. It’s back on chaps, but I don’t know the score or anything. It was 2-0 at about 15 mins into the match when I had to leave.

  6. Still 2-0 guys.

I think the pitch is in pretty bad condition after some rain, I don’t think our guys have six studded boots either.

  7. its true the pitch is in a bad state but that it in our favor as those are the conditions that we are used too. still 2-0

  8. Since when did we start playing long ball football pa Zed? I don’t know if it is because our midfielders in Zed don’t have the physique to keep the ball, or our pitches mean that we can’t play bola panshi. The boys are constantly looking for Mayuka too, sometimes there is a better ball on but they are ignoring it.

  9. For those of you that aren’t watching. The islanders are playing some good football, I’d say they are playing a better football, but we are having all the chances. In all honesty it could have been 5-0. We use direct balls and are fast on the break and their defenders are having a tough time containing us.

Straight after the game FAZ need to call Nike and get us some 6-studs.

  10. who is leading and which sites can i check to get the updates?
Hope the game is stable cos iam too.

  11. Game over. We have humiliated the islanders on their own soil. Copper bullet regain the power we once enjoyed

  12. Game over guys. I’d say well-done boys but lest make sure we have a strong team for Egypt. From the impression of today’s game, we need to improve.

I don’t know who the boy is, but our 17 is very fast and I was quite impressed.

Mayuka led the line well and scored an excellent goal. The defenders obviously knew his reputation and kept a keen eye on him, to his benefit he kept his movement up and managed to play a good game.

Sinkala and Munaile in the central mid didn’t get much of the ball, it was passed over their heads most of the time but both did well.

The much heralded ‘Thierry’ Banda was replaced late on but showed some real class in patches. I don’t think conditions

  13. I’m just enjoying stability here. The boys have done it. That answers the question on this thread’s heading.

  14. helped anyone, but he was really affected. It was his freekick that was headed in by Kasongo (I don’t know if this is his real name, but he played 10).

The No. 10 ‘Kasongo’ played well with Mayuka. Mayuka held up the ball and he ran in behind the defenders. Overall he did well.

I don’t know the names of any of the defenders, but overall they we okay. Their distribution of the ball was a bit rushed and they kicked it long almost all the time. Having said that, they hit their target upfront most of the time.

Goalkeeper, was not troubled. He looks a lot like Mweene and has the same sort of physique. A couple of times he made good interventions and was brave when punching.

  15. This is what we want, victory for our mother land. Well done lads and make sure we prepare for the jnr pharaohs, they are a different proposition alltogether.

  16. I see. Thanks for the highlights and the link, Whisper. How I wish I had known the kick off time. The game was over by the time I got home. I was, however, still able to follow your commentaries from my phone.

    Cheers.

  17. Congratulations to the young Chipolopolo! Our technical staff need to pick the best of all eligible players and stop this notion of not playing a player because he is in the senior team. If these teams progress in major tournaments, the players will be noticed by the bigger clubs.

  18. Let us call all our u20 players abroad and home those u20 who plays in the senior team 4 the game against Egypt u20. Well done guys.
