The Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) has resolved to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to iron-out all pertinent issues that have recently rocked the party.
MMD National Chairman Michael Mabenga says the party will soon hold a NEC meeting to deal with the anxiety and speculations that have arisen following President Mwanawasa’s illness.
Mr. Mabenga told ZANIS in an interview that the party has decided to hold a NEC meeting to allow members speak out on any issue of concern behind closed doors and away from the press.
He said the party feels that it is prudent to openly discuss the issues that have threatened to divide that party among party members and behind closed doors.
Mr. Mabenga said it is hoped the meeting would help dismiss unwarranted speculation and consolidate the party leadership.
The move has come in the wake of mounting calls from a cross-section of the society that the MMD should convene a NEC meeting to iron-out all contentious issues surrounding the party leadership.
And Vice President, Rupiah Banda, has urged the ruling MMD cadres to stop bickering but remain focused on President Mwanawasa’s recovery.
Mr Banda said people should be preoccupied with hard work and prayers for Dr Mwanawasa’s full recovery to help sustain achieved positive economic indicators.
He was speaking on arrival at Livingastone International Airport this morning when he addressed government officials, members of the Local Government Assopciation of Zambia (LGAZ) and MMD cadres.
He warned that political bickering should be discouraged due to its potential to erode achieved positive economic gains.
The Vice President cautioned the ruling party cadres to desist from using the media to air opinions that are likely to distabilise the party and the nation in general.
“Our concern should be preoccupation to pray for his (Dr Mwanawasa’s) full recovery so that he can come back and find the MMD and the country united,” Mr Banda said.
He advised the MMD cadres and leaders in particular, not rush to the press to express their views but be responsible to look after the party until President Mwanawasa returns home.
The vice president was reacting to Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe, who expressed disappointment at the perceived bickering within the MMD.
Mr Munkombwe, in his welcome message to the vice president, regretted that some MMD cadres were using the media to issue statements that were creating tension ever since President Mwanawasa has been out of the country.
President Mwanawasa is currently admitted to Percy Military hospital in Paris, France, where he is admitted and receiving treatment after falling ill some fortnight ago.
Mr Munkombwe advised the cadres to seek advise from experienced politicians before issuing statements in media.

I HOPE BY SOON HE MEANS TOMORROW MORNING – WE DON’T CARE WHAT MMD DOES WE CARE MORE ABOUT CABINET DECISION ON ARTICLE 36
What position does RB hold in the MMD?
It is becoming confusing that it’s had to even pass a comment.
RB cannot do anything about MMD affairs, he is not even an MMD member. Veep is in a serious fix, hence his preoccupation with praying for Mwanawasa. Moral of the story is never let one man have all the power, this should serve as a lesson to all our political parties and most of all the nation.
– Bo Elder
Finally after three weeks of you know…there is movement within the MD party. A sign that sober individuals are rare these days.
Bo elder I totally agree with you at least there is something positive coming up after 3 weeks of foot dragging.I hope it does not turn into a series of fruitless meetings.
#4 yes indeed, this is a lesson to other parties such as PF to plan in advance of leadership vacuum for PF under Michael Sata’s rule is a sleeping giant.Sata must go!
It looks like the country has been held at a ransom by MMD party for 3 weeks since LEVY sickness,Let them sought out their leadership problems in their party and also the so called cabinet must let us fully know whats going on,its been 3 weeks
The only serious contender and threat to MMD’s stay in power is UPND and HH.Opinion in the streets and homes says it all.Come elections in the near future or 2011,HH will have an easy ride to plot 1 for obvious reasons.

Is it true that Sata shot down debate in his Party on his replacement? Can someone elaborate please.
Ladies and gentlemen, we do not want the same fate that has befallen us to happen again in future, from now on, sick people like Sata and Levy with their serious heart attacks should never be allowed to run for high office. There is a provision in the republican constitution that stipulates that all candidates should be of sound health and yet the Chief Justice allowed a clearly sick man like Levy to run for high office. Sata is a living corpse just like Mazoka was but just watch come the next polls when the living dead will line upo to run so they die in office and lawyers make a killing from new polls and election result petitions.
Iwe #2 and #4, Veep Banda, not to be outdone, is a Trustee mu MMD, just like former Veep Lupando Mwape is. But I would caution you not to underrate Veep Banda. Don’t forget that Nevers Mumba (the Zed shall be saved pastor cum politician) became Veep overnite after dumping his own flock (National Christian Coalition–NCC) in 2003 on recommendation by the father of the nation Super Ken (KK). So watch out for RB too boys.
Movement of Mad Dogs. These canines should elect A Vice Poodle at the meeting.
movement for what?
The hour has come to get things into perspective in our ruling Party.I only hope they will not focus on Teta and Katele squables,it will steal there opportunity to scheme who takes over from Levy.Hope they will heartly face the reality and map a way forward.Identify a leader quickly and move on.The whole process is in there hands.Good luck MMD.
guys dont you get tired of discussing Sata and HH. i feel we have over debated these two. leave them to organise their respective Parties. as discussants here we should focus on the streghths and weaknesses if any of the aspiring candidates. we should not just close up our minds and confine ourselves to these two candidates. let us broaden our span of debate to include other potential casndidates. we have a large pool and these two are not guaranteed of a safe passage to plot one. i for one am bored to be discussing the same two honourable men on every topic. the only exception was the topic on pule. let us stop this please guys.
people why some of you are so excited about the the sickness of LPM.He does not own MMD or GRZ either, negative. But what you need to do is support the first family and good wishes for the Head of state until he’s back.Confusion about the Head of state being sick should not bring division in the country or in the MMD at the moment, he is not yet pronounced not capable of not working.
The words coming from RB are disapointing. He cant be prez???. He talks vulga….mmmm.
#17, you are right. Dr. Nevers Mumba this morning on UNZA Radio talkshow demanded that cameras enter LPM’s hospital ward in order to dispel speculation by the nation that LPM is improving. Alternatively, he is of the view that Doctors attending to LPM give a media briefing which should include a prognosis of LPM’s capacity or incapacitation to hold office. He also responded in the affirmative to questions whether he would stand in the event of fresh elections.
Nevers Mumba is nothing but a form 5 fellow with a fake doctorate. The trouble with Zambians is that any doctorate is great, even one written on tp.
Look for HH, Chirwa for the new presidency of Zambia if we are to become a sound nation.
#21,zambia first,what degree has kk?
#22, Leave the old man out of this! Just look around you and you will see his achievements !
I think time has come for zambians to stop accepting mediocrity. We want to see proper leadership both educated and sound.I hope MMd can give this chirwa guy a chance, then we can move into modern leadership. The old school can sit back and just advise. How long can we drag our feet, even a simple job like making a tar road we still need foreign experts, come on pipo.We want exposed leadership , credit LPM who I think has moved Zed a century later, and we need continuity and advancement.I would also look to the breed of HH, Chirwa for now.
Clinging to KK’s achievements and arguing in favour of having people with humble or no traceable educational credentials is thinking we are still in the 1930s. Gone are those days, we need to move with time. Even in the police service where even G7 dropouts were recruited nowadays you find graduates. We need atleast someone with a minimum of Bachelor’s to run for presidency. Ruling a nation is complex and you need one with superior analytical skill on top of their natural wisdom. We appreciate KK and he did a great job in his time but in this time and error it would be practically imposible for him and those in his category to run gvt successfully.
so nevers belongs to the old school?
No … #26, he is not old school. He should just continue what is he is good at … bringing souls to the lord.He is not a politician.Let him be the moral voice of the nation, I guess we will need one.
Iwe ka #22,how dare you bring the Big Old man KK in this trivials? Some of us have all these Masters’ Degrees because of the likes of Super Ken,who out selfless love introduced policies that enabled guys with very humble background like me,HH,Dr Manda,Prof Mvunga,Prof Munkonge,Prof Hansungule,Prof Lungwangwa, etc to be where we are.If you are not educated,it could that you grew up during the MMD era.Do not even answer back, because you will be insulting many people.KK is above these petty politics, respect elders.
How many degrre holders did we have in KK era? How many in FTJ and LPM now?
Can we say more hospitals, schools, roads etc have been build now than in UNIP time?
Yaba!
mfk compare comments by #21,#22 & yours.#22 is probably not against kk but people promoting the issue of degree as a qualification for one to be president.
By the way WHO IS A LEADER?
Do my fellow zambia’s know that the gov’t has Known about oil in the northwestern province since the 70’s?,so why are we still speading billions on oil?
When one is reading these comments, you really can not figure out the topic being discussed.
Anyway, the wise would always hope for the best, and prepare for the worst at the same time. We can not wait for His Excellency to be declared incapable for us to start rearranging our affairs.
Lets be proactive. Am not sure if electing an MMD Vice President is the way forward, but am sure that we should be aware that our situation needs attention. Lets not condemn forward looking people.
Its high time mmd realise and reorganise themselfs, having a sick leader should not make you divide otherwise,we as PF and other parties UPND will take advantage of the situation.Development can only come when there is unity in our middest.Quick recovery lpm
Who is interested in MMD squabbles anyway???? Our concern is about cabinet and information about LPM. Cabinet and MMD are not one and the same and they should realise that.
A degree is a piece of paper. We do not need someone with a piece of paper but people who can perform. There are so many *****s with degrees in the MMD government but what have they done so far.I am educated by the way!Zuma has no degree but only 3 years of formal education he is soon to be President of RSA.
Let us focus on prayer..
Its about time you chaps. In the true words of the great Tupac….life goes on!!! Levy is not MMD and the party is not Levy. Its time we Zambians changed the post-colonial mentality that made leaders like Nyerere, Kamuzu, Kenyata think that without them there would be no Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya…. So the MMD can continue without Levy and Zambia too must continue without Levy…progressive continuity….go go go. As for 36 your claim of being eductated is suspect. Because if you were educated you would appreciate the true value of education. Its only shallow minded people who can reduce the importance of education to just a piece of paper.
the truth of the matter is: the man is not capable of running the nation whether dead or “STABLE”. Its better to think of a solution now before those chaps in power steal all that is left because they know their positions are shaking and so they are fattening before being pronounced “FIRED”.
RB AND MULONGOTI, WE NEED TO SEE THE VIDEOS OF LEVY AS PROOF OF HIS BEING STABLE.WE NEED NO MORE LIES,WE ARE TIRED,HE IS NOT JESUS THAT HAS BEEN SAID TO BE COMING NOW YET WE STILL LIVE ON.WE HAVE ALOT TO WORRY ABOUT OTHER THAN A HUMAN BEING.LETS MOVE GENTLEMEN!!!!
PRAYER WORRIERS,YOU ARE HIGHLY RECOMENDED.BUT!!LETS BE PRAYING FOR SOMEONE WHOSE CONDITION WE ARE SEING.ITS ONLY LOGIC THAT WE PRAY WITH SOME INFORMATION FLOWING IN A CONTINUUN.THINGS SHOULD NOT BE LEFT HANGING.
Thenjiwe,WE NEED PRAYERS WITH VISION.BE PATRIOTIC.
Time for moving corpses in plot 1 over, same for rickety clubs called political parties… Period! Clive Chirwa rocks but whose ticket?
HH is the only hope for Zambia after LPM, no doudt about that one.
These squables are as result of LPM’s selfish motives. He made Maureen the vice president of MMD and Zambia. Veep RB is just a figure head. Let them dance to the tune of Maureen, she is controlling them from France as party and national veep, what a shame on MMD and Zambia!! One family manipulating the whole nation. Lord heal our land.
Nevers Mumba is a none factor in Zambian politics. Let him just go back to the pulpit and tend to his flock he abandoned—ba “Zambia shall be free” band wagon in Kitwe.
Rather it is supposed to read “Zambia shall be saved” in #45.
MMd urgently needs to replace LPM whether they like it or not.don’y hide ur heads in the hot and ….the man is unwell and need salot of rest.Mulongoti is just defending his job…don’t listen the boy….VIVA Teta and tell Michael to organise his party coz he’s current leader of Mandraxdealers.RB is just a shadow of his own.
#43 Annonymous, you must be very useless.HH is not presidential material. The bastard will never rule Zambia. He dribbled Saki for UPND presidency. You think we Lozi are happy about this?? No!
It is only his fellow tongas that will vote for this bastard.
Zambia has alot of credible persons to lead us and not tribalists like Tongas!!
Mulyokela, I will only call you a bastard becoz you ar my mbuya. Why did your people in the last election vote more for HH than Saki if there is substance in what you are saying. You are the one who is a big tribalist. Mwaluswabisa hau bo Mulyokela. HH beat Saki at convention big time. Why do you want to distort facts and cry over spilt milk. You are the first irratinal Lozi man I have ever come accross.
our preoccupation and main foucus should be mother Zambia, and whilst being focused and preoccupied on our country, keep our beloved LPM in our prayers and hope for his speedy recovery, LPM is not bigger than Zambia
BaMimi bakalipa manje! When will HH reconcile with Saki. If they dont then HH is still far from being the next person in plot1.
MMD is now in total shambles, Mabenga is resisting to call for the NEC meeting. Its now like animal farm.
Mulogoti called some of his party members thieves, and he is still misleading the nation with the same old gazette notice. Thats why Mpombo has gotten upset… ‘Kulibonesha’
