Mbesuma Gets Zambia Call-up

Share

Herve Renard has drafted club-less striker Collins Mbesuma into his 26-member team heading for a 1-week long training camp in Germany from August 15-24.

Mbesuma, who is currently training with South African Premier League side Mamelodi Sundowns, has been handed another chance to convince Renard before Zambia hosts Togo in Chililabombwe on September 6 in a 2010 World/Africa Cup Group 11 qualifier.

The striker is currently club-less after Turkish club Bursaspor cancelled his contract just 1 season into a 3-year-deal due to poor form.

And Renard has called 5 European-based players for Zambia’s training camp in Germany led by striker and captain Christopher Katongo.

Katongo this week completed a big money move from Brondby in Denmark to Germany Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefield.

However, the 5 do not include the other 2 familiar German-based players Andrew Sinkala and Moses Sichone.

Renard has also kept his faith in most of his starters from the just ended Cosafa Cup tournament in Mpumalanga, South Africa where Zambia won bronze.

Some of the players retaining their places are Nchanga Rangers defender Elijah Tana together with Power Dynamos striker Francis Kombe.

However, there is no place for the Young Arrows attacking duo of Chiwanki Liyainga and Judge Mkandawire.

Also out are Lusaka Dynamos defender Hichani Himoonde and midfielder Henry Banda from Zanaco including Nyambe Mulenga of Zesco who is out for over 5 weeks with an ankle injury.

Himoonde and Banda are reportedly attending trials at defending South African league champions SuperSport United.

Meanwhile, another club-less player Kampamba Chintu returns to the fold after he missed the Cosafa Cup due to an unsuccessful trial spell in the UAE.

Team:

Goalkeepers: Kennedy Mweene (Free State Stars, South Africa), Kalililo Kakonje (Amazulu, South Africa), Mike Poto (Green Buffaloes)

Defenders: Kampamba Chintu (Clubless), William Chinyama (Zesco United), Clive Hachilensa (African Warriors, South Africa), Whiteson Simwanza (Young Arrows), Elijah Tana (Nchanga Rangers), Billy Mwanza (Bay United, South Africa), Joseph Musonda (Lamontville Golden Arrows, South Africa)

Midfielders: Isaac Chansa (Helsinborg, Sweden), Noah Chivuta (SuperSport United, South Africa), Kebby Hachipuka (Green Eagles), Francis Kasonde (Power Dynamos), Rainford Kalaba (Gil Valente, Portugal), Felix Katongo (Stade Rennes, France), Noah Chivuta (SuperSport United, South Africa), Stophira Sunzu (Zanaco)

Strikers:James Chamanga (Dalian Haichang, China), Christopher Katongo (Arminia Bielefeld,Germany), Roger Kola (Zanaco), Francis Kombe (Power Dynamos), Emmanuel Mayuka (Kabwe Warriors), Collins Mbesuma (Club-less), Jacob Mulenga (Chateauroux, France), Felix Sunzu Jnr (Konkola Blades)

  1. Welcome back Collins. We all know that Collins is a natural striker but need to pair with someone who has speed Like Katongo. being clubless is not the end of the world, you might lose one and probably get another, but the key is proving yourself that you are still the material that the world of football needs. We shall support you when you scoal. If you do not score, then you have no market.
Zambia is in dare need of scores and if you can provide that, then you are THE MBESUMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Good luck to the team. But I think the campin would have been more fruitful if FAZ also had played an international Friendliy with a western African opponent such as Guinea, Senegal, Sierra Leon and the like.

  3. I still hav doubts bout herve renard. the dude got fired from cambridge which is a team in the lower english leagues. if a small team is letting go off the guy i dnt knw why zambia decided to get him as a coach. the ghana coach was his friend and got him the job as assistant manager. neway im still waiting for him to prove me wrong. maybe he can bring bak the glory days when we ranked 15th in the world. hehe. thats a big dream….

  5. Welcome back 2 th squad mbesuma. This is your chance to prove critics wrong, show them how good a striker you are!!!

  6. It is now obvious Kalu is calling the shots. It is up to Mbesuma to prove himself and show us that the European teams were wrong.
I like the idea of trying him on the training camp than starting an actual game.

Bane don’t you think the Team should be camping in Africa considering the climate, style of play !!

  7. No no no # 10 Mbuzi mwe, climate has less than 1 % effect on the performance of the players. Its Togo who should be worried of climate. I can even tell you that the weather pattern in Lusaka is different from Chililabombwe. If you have never been in Europe you may think the climate is worse as in hell… No no you anyone of those players can adjust within 5 minutes, they are not old fashioned like you mwe Mbuzi.

  8. #3, please move on naimwe! why holding on to finished *****s with big heads? as for Mbesuma returning to the team, RUBBISH!

    Herve ni chi kusi!

  9. well, well. Mbesuma back in the fold.i guess its true what they say about the one eyed person being king in the land of the blind…
    And Ian Bakala?

  10. Andrew Sinkala deserves a place in the team.We do not have much depth in the midfield.Chansa is an attacker and so is Rainford,Sunzu has no experience.Andrew plays a very good role of holding the midfield. These young players need more time to mature. As long as Kalu is FAZ chief Moses and Andrew will never have a chance again.Mbesuma welcome back mwaice, when one door is closed the other is open.

  11. #12 you are the ***** yourself, Sichone and sinkal are still playing in germany, yes they may not be in division one, but they are in divisions playing better than our premier league!!!!!! germanys are not foolish to continue paying these two money that you and your entire clan will ever make in this world!!!!

  12. Zambians, when are we going to be serious ? The mistakes we are making in POLITICS are the same mistakes we are making in FOOTBALL. Why do we continue wasting efforts and resources on RECYCLED people ?
    Mbesuma is finished and nothing will change that. The guy has reached the end of the road in his football career, period. Two options;
    a. Zambians, go for coaching courses abroad then come and build up our National team because you will easily understand your players.
    b. Lets tap talent from teams country wide, then groom them. Has this chap Renard been to all our provinces ? He just came to make money.

  13. Andrew the last time i checked had a medical condition, Sichone has been begging to come to the team but going by his past behaviour I doubt he would have changed overnight. About Mbesuma, there are two things that could happen to him, make ir break depending on how he views this call up. If he views like we are begging for his skills, it will break him, if he views it as an opportunity to start all over again then he will definitely give it his all. Going by past experience, I find him as unrepentant but again I am willing to swallow my words as I always say on comments about football.

  14. I feel bad for Andrew Sinkala. Most of the times he is discussed together with the unpartriotic Moses Sichone. Right now Sinkala is the only Midfielder that has the depth for the Togo match. Kalu please forgive the man, I think you have personal issues with him which may have nothing to do with football.

  15. We should have let Mbesuma find his feet in SA. Why not just call him for the Togo game? The man earns a living from club soccer.

  16. one day i would like to see a team like this

    Mweene between the posts

Sichone or Sashi Chalwe paired with Tana as center backs Mwanza

and Hachilensa on left and right wings of Defence…Midfeild

we pair the master class of Sinkala…the ingenuity of

Chansa… the speed of Felix Katongo and leadership of Chris

Katongo playing behind two Strikers maybe Mulenga and Chamanga

or Kombe upfront..am sure we can do some damage but hey..!!

thats the team that i think can do some damage..:))

  17. Mbesuma must have lost some weight. Rednap at potsmouth told him he was too fat. He must have bein eating to many kebabs.

  18. Welcome back ba Fat Big Dad Besuma Collins,I hope your title as a club less won’t prove you wrong?hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. For the upteenth time, let me state that Moses Sichone will never be part of any current or future national squad no matter who will be heading FAZ. He has differed with three (3) executives so far, what kind of arrogance is that? Andrew Sinkala, on the other hand, is a humble & patriotic player that has a part to play in the current set up. His omission may be due to the injury or illness he suffered recently. Any misgivings towards Kalu are misguided becoz Sinkala has been included in recent assignments even when Kalu was coach. However, FAZ need to explain the status of each omitted player each time a national team is called up.

  20. Ba Chief # 26 you are right when you say we need to know why other players have not been called up. Kalusha and his FAZ friends must not take things personal. We need to win matches and reaching a compromise or some kind of understanding with players is very important moving forward. Its the country’s football image at stake not football administrators’.

  21. Welcome Mr. Remember opportunity just come once so it’s your duty now to prove yourself to us. We will give you every support you need.

  22. Finally Mbesuma has signed for Sundowns which is a good thing for him as he can concetrate on playing football again.

  23. Going round cicles again. we will never learn. we shall wait and see. I have a shambok ready for Kalusha, Renard, any player and indeed any other individual that will mess my chances of happiness as far as Zambia’s qualification to AFCON and SA 2010 is concerned! Petty personal vandettaz must not be exercised in NATIONAL AFFAIRS! WAPYA!

  24. I can tell you that the old days when scouts went to rural areas of Zambia to spot for talent might be what is needed as holistic aproach to reviving the game. The likes of Mbesuma who are now in the league of “fat cats” have such a short footballing lifespan we may just be wasting time and resources. We need to get back to the drawing board and revive the entire football system in Zambia. Kalu has said lofty things but we basically have nothing on the ground. Where is primary and secondary school football? Thses sure are ” soccer academies” in the making.

  25. Ha ha ha ha my observation on Mbesuma LT wrote Collins Mbesuma Club-less meaning he should be clubing less. LT would have written clubless without any space.
anyway i hope he will fit in the team. he looks lika an over fed baby. Good luck Mbesuma.

  26. # 32. Sir Newton,
Secondary school football can be academies of football for zambia, but there is one problem, Chilubas’s goverment sold off all the playing fields. Now we have a situation were very few primary and secondary schools have playing fields. During KK’s time there were a lot of parks and football pitches in all major towns.
    Not any more.

  27. Hey you chaps sitting on your desktops and pressing the keyboard with your dirty fingers. You make me sick with your kindergaten soccer analysis. Who is interested in your analysis. Making line ups when you do not even know the physical state of players. Let coach do his work without interference, why not form a line up from amongst your relatives and see how they preform against a neighbour’ select side. That way you will appreciate the diificult task that the coach has at hand. This should be the last comment on this topic.

  28. Finally Collinto is back. Interesting. I feel bad for Sinkala. The guy is already in Germany and shud have been included in the team. Why cant Herve try him there? No air ticket for him.

  29. shushushu, I agree, In Libala and Kabwata, where I grew up play parks now have houses built on them. Even open spaces are now taken, no wonder the kids are doing stuff we never did. All we knew was Kalambe and chimbobwa, no drugs, no beer no smoking

  30. May be he is the missing link. But he needs to show committment and total discipline. Moreover the chap is not very fit so this is a gamble but worthy a try. Come on Collins prove youself. No more shake shake.

  31. Has Sinkala recovered from the TB he was suffering from last year? Which team is he playing for in Germany? The last I heard about him he had no team and was hoping to sign up for one. Those advocating for his inclusion could you please enlighten those of us who are ignorant about his current football status and form.

  32. Mbesuma finally signs for Sundowns

    07 August 2008 (13:51)

    Collins Mbesuma © Gallo Images
Collins Mbesuma has signed a three-year contract with Mamelodi Sundowns and ended speculations that he might jump ship and join another team after Moroka Swallows had announced they were talking to the player.
The Zambian’s business manager confirmed that the player has put pen to paper after training with the club for the last three weeks where he was put under an intensive training regime to assess his true fitness levels and he appears to have come out unscathed.

There had been reports that the man who scored an incredible 35 goals while at Kaizer Chiefs a couple of years ago was overwe

  33. The most important thing needed right now is a team which will be able to score goals and win games. more especially the one against Togo. No stories!!

  34. Kalusha and Renard please please please, now for the sake of football in zambia call sinkala please or else we will not qualify to the world cup.

  35. # 46 is right. we desparately need sinkala. please zambians lets call sinkala for the sake of mother zambia.

  36. We tend to foucus too much about names in the national team then the actual match. Sinkala was bed ridden for a while and has no club. Sichone has made it clear despite playing in the low legaues that he wants to be paid more than the rest. Yet he has done nothing at national team level. Yrs and counting.
I remember Charles Musonda playing in one qualifer ( Diramba) on a bad knee becoz the whole nation wanted him and he could not even star the match. Lets focus our debate on how we will stop Adebayor!!
I would care less who you recall as long as we win. Even Mordon Malitoli to fwasa Adebayor. Stop talking about same boring same names!

  37. guys i think we need to be toralant about this mbesuma issue, why cant he be given chance to regain his confidence. this guy’s spirit has been broken and has lost his confidence. Zambia qualified for 2006 african cup of nations due to his inspiration and by the Kalu is costing the nation with his white physician we need PP back not the trash we see that guy do.

  38. what about sinkala amd mosijo.we need those guys in the team.by the way bloger can you please update me on gift kampamba. his a very good player but have not head anything about him for sometime.

  39. the problem is that kalu has been having personal vendaters with some player, that is why he cant allow them to receive a call-up.i think kalu is having alot of influence on his coach(PE teacher).were is forgiveness in this world, that is why he failed to manage the team when he was coach.too proud to hear from other, always disagreed with fellows in FAZ meeting.lets be serious who voted for this guy anyway.

  40. Kalu was a great player for Zambia but as a FAZ administrator, his wisdom in appointing a novice coach to take Zambia to the Africa Cup and also qualify us to the World Cup is suspect. If our goal is to win the Africa and qualify for the World Cup, then the appointment of a foreign coach should have been more ambitious than a French apprentice coach.
Some of us still wonder why Patrick Phiri was let go. He coached Zambia at the Under 20 World Cup in 1999, he recently attended a refresher course in coaching and has extensive experience of the Zambian game at the local and national level. You would expect such credentials to stand you in good stead but not with the Great Kalu!

  41. Sichone is a stupid player, he dosn’t like playing qualifying matches but want to play in the finals. Please coach don’t call him to join the team. FAZ should punish those players who refuse to come to national duties like Sichone. Kalu what are you doing? You played for Zambia when called.

  42. Do you know why Zambian players don’t prosper? te bu kula iyo it also has something to do with sitting behind the desk ,as far as my memory serves me we have never wacthed a Zed player in the English premier league also called English soccer back then….Chabipa fweba sambilila tatwishiba bola ,sometimes to be a good footballer you to beat the elements of football, but unfortunately physics starts in grade 10 and 99% Zambian footballers are grade 7s

  43. Mid 70’s Freddie Mwila Aston Villa. Thats how we treat our stars when they are done, I am sure this is a suprise to you.

The man later moved on to New York Cosmos.

So yes we have had a Zambian in English soccer!
