Vote for a candidate who will win investor confidence – KCCI

Share

Kitwe Chamber of Commerce and Industry  (KCCI) has challenged Zambian businessmen and the nation at large to vote for a Presidential candidate who was capable of wining Investor confidence both locally and internationally in order to  maintain the positive economic growth recorded so far.

KCCI President Eddie Kapungulya said there was need for Zambians to vote for a Presidential candidate who was going to manage the Zambian economy and propel it to great heights like the departed President Levy Mwanawasa had done.

Speaking in an Interview with the ZANIS  in Kitwe today,  Mr. Kapungulya observed that currently most of the investors were holding on to their projects following the death of Dr Mwanawasa .

He said people  should  rally behind a Presidential candidate who understood the operations of the Private sector and the general economy.

Mr. Kapungulya stated members of his organisation under the leadership of the late  President had contributed significantly to the growth of the economy through business transactions awarded to them by the mining Companies  and related industries.
He appealed to Zambians to engage in peaceful campaigns based national issues as the country  goes for the  Presidential bye election slated for  October 30 .

  1. What Eddie Kapungulya is saying is that the new president should be willing to let foreigners take over contracts which a Zambian man can manage.

  2. No 1. that is not the point being made and this is how you people confuse others when you take issues from a narrow perspective. Please look at a big picture from the comments so that you do not delegitmise what you are trying to educate us on and detract other readers especially those who have the tendency to comment before they subject articles to some sort of analysis.

  3. KICC are right to the extent that we need investments, but we must be careful that we do not let the investors take up business opportunities that Zambians can do. There is a need for government to ensure that the Statutory Instruments to put in place the protective provisions in the Citizens Economic Empowerment legislation are put in place. We must also not bend over too far backwards in trying to get the investors. What we need is a true patriot who is not out to enrich himself.

  4. Its not all about investors but development is what we need at the moment. The so called investors will come and take advantage of Zeds and pay them very small salaries. Not all investors bring development to the country. Just think of how you can create jobs and dont always think of investors to create them for you!!!!!!!!!

  5. We have potential as Zeds to take our country forward. The govt should come up with a good plan to encourage zeds that are willing to invest. How can we sell all the properties to foreigners???If only the govt could sell 50% to investors and the other 50% to local investors, none of us could be ill treated by those stupid investors.

  6. Ba #2 It`s come rain or shine.

This investor talk is rubbish. America will force their way whether you like it or not.

  7. Vote for a candidate who has the interests of Zambians at heart. They must be a balance between foreign investment and empowering of our citizens. Making foreign Investors happy shoul not be a criteria to elect one for office

  8. #10 Good point. The problem with our politicians is that to them an investor can only be a foreigner.Sad but that is a fact.An indegenous Zambian can also make a very good investor.Look at our our Mining Industy. It is all in the hands of foreigners and you tell me how much ,say, Mopani Copper Mines gives back to the community? These Aussies are only interested in making money and syphoning that money down under.Their management can’t even afford a website.SHAME.

  9. why do we alwaz seek faults in idioms from comments made by fellow bloggers,i think inference is a ability that a normal blogger should possess.please if you have nothing to offer from your weak analysis you must as well just learn in silence.I think its more wise that way

  10. We Zambians need to lose that 20th century mentality of whooing investors to our country. In as much as they are important to the economy of our country, we need to realise that investors are not always good for the country as they have their own agendas and are not interested in developing the nation. Colonialists came to Africa as investors, but look at the current state of Africa, its a mixture of anarchy and despotism. The answer lies in good governance and adherence to the rule of law.

  11. # 10 Logic walasa good point sure we should support a candidate who has got the heart to empower zambian citizens and not a candidate who will only rule to please foreign investors.Atleast if the next government can work on 75% citizen investment empowerment and 25% foreign investors.

  12. No 20 i ve liked your prophetic writing. Satan will just scare away investors ll even erode the little progress we ve made . Lpm has laid a good foundation that need people with the vision to continue . Rb is the man at the moment . To hell with the post .after law they are just making him popular. In fact those comments only represents Mmembe. We know why the hatredge . They ve really being compromised. Why all of the sadden the negative .did they want the MMD to go by their prefered man? No ways. To hell with your articles. Write more about RB so that u market him more.

  13. Who is tht candidate who’ll take zambia to greater heights economically? In 1964,Zambia had the same GDP as tht of China bt today Zambia can not even manufacture a niddle.

  14. If dont Tongas cant work with other tribes in Southern Province, what guaratee is there that HH and his UPND can work with Foreign investors or local investors who are non tongas.?Never again should we allow a party be hijacked by tribal punks or allow political parties that can only have MPs from one region. This should be taken seriously. How can a party allow allow a deceased party President be replaced on tribal grounds? How can chiefs of Province demand for Minister of their own tribe?

  15. TONGAS are the scums of Zambia just like NIGERIANS are the scums of AFRICA! We need to lead them to the Guillotines. NO TONGA OR LOZI WILL EVER RULE ZAMBIA COZ ZAMBIANS ARE SMARTER THAN THAT!

  16. #17,we all know which tribe in Zambia is tribal, incorrigable, thieves and arm chair critics. That tribe are Bambas or sry,Bembas. Its unfortunate ur preferred candidate is no where close 2 have the economic, knowledge & skill required to rule this country.Sry to say tht but thts the truth & most pipo are aware of tht fact.

  17. Ba # 19. When GOD says YES,no one can NO.HH is unstoppable and come 2nd November,he’ll be sworn in as Zambia’s 4th Republican President. That we can bet!!

  18. #21

RB will carry the day and you will be forced to swallow your own cum! The LEGENDARY VJ & MMD are behind him, his got Public Resources at his DISPOSAL, the Voters are ROOTING for him, the ELECTION is his to LOSE! Meanwhile CHI SATA and ka hh cannot not even agree to a merger bcoz of SUPER-SIZED EGOS! KNUCKLE-HEADS

PS: Sata can make a GOOD PORN DIRECTOR after losing the elections with HH and you as the main actors!

  19. RB is a qualified Economist,a Diplomat of international repute, has public, political and social experience. The man has been involved in charitable works even after he had retired from politics. The Privitisation process in which HH took part can be described as a disaster because it couldnt benefit the majority of the Zambian people.

  20. #20 RB is a qualified Economist,a Diplomat of international repute, has public, political and social experience. The man has been involved in charitable works even after he had retired from politics. The Privitisation process in which HH took part can be described as a disaster because it couldnt benefit the majority of the Zambian people.

  21. Am enjoying this.#21 (TK1),you couldnt have put it any better. At the rate HH is moving, nothing will stop him from scouping the Presidency next month. The man drives a harder bargain, this election is about substance & quality.LPM has left a standard of credentials of who goes to plot 1.

  22. |Bembas thiefs, corrupt, most tribal, bakabwalala.you will not rule zambia again how ever you from kola in DRC.BEMBAS NO NO,NO ,NO,NO.WHY IS IT THAT MOST TRIBES ARE AGAINST THESE THIEF CHAPS.CAN YOU FINISH COURT CHARGES FIRST BEFORE YOU COME TO POLITICS OF THE LAND.YOU ARE PROVEN an out cust.

  23. Bembas never stop amazing me,they think they were born to be Presidents of Zambia.Ha ha ha.Enuf is enuf you thieves and tribalists. Why dont you go back to Congo DRC?

  24. Great stuff #2.

“He said people should rally behind a Presidential candidate who understood the operations of the Private sector and the general economy.”

That Presidential candidate is HH and non-other at the moment.

  25. Check out the new satanding of the Zambia online poll on:

    ht tp:/ /ww w.zambia. co. zm/ inde x.php ?actio n=results & poll_ident = 15 or ww w.zambia. co. zm.

Have a gr8 day as you blog fellow Zambians.

  26. HH WABOLA November 2008, Zambia FORWARD.

“Vote UPND’s HH for economic independence, a NEW and JUST Zambia. Where the Zambia people will move with their heads high as the PRIDE of this World after 30 or so years of hardships under the leadership of cold-heartless crooks and thieves whose education can hardly be traced.

Vote for educated people like HH and RB as opposed to those without tangible classroom background for EDUCATION showed that educated Americans put men on the Moon.

  27. No matter who the president may be, investors will still be there. They come because they have seen something they need. The most important is how the government distributes the little collections they earn from its resources.

  28. HH is a mere collaborator with foreign investors who work against Zambin people’s interests. He is the one we sent to negotiate on our behalf the sale of Mosi o Tunya Hotel and he gave it to Sun Hotels with lots of special incentives such as cutting of Zambians access to the river. After that he was rewarded by the same people with the Chairmanship of Sun. Talk about selling out and being corrupt. HH looks after his interests and not those of the country. He even denied Zambian workers their 10% service charge until Court forced him and Sun to pay. Be real vote for someone with Zambia at heart and not personal profit as his motivator.

  29. #14 Pazed you are used to work under a whip,Mwalibelela buka boyi. Even ama guys abroad uko bamisunga nga abasha you work like no body’s business. Nomba nga mwaisa kuno twamicindika te pa kumeka no kupoleka. So before iyo 75% empowerment ala work culture yena ifwile yacinja. As at now ifyo fine ama Choncho li nga bamikunkunsha ko ne myembya kuti twayako pantanshi. Let us only have some who will set standard on the quality of investment. Not utu tuntemba twaisula Ku Kamwala na mu freedomway aweeee.

  30. #36, provide proof on HH instead of day- or night-dreaming about HH’s records.

HH and UPND are way to clever to deal with broke characters. On your assertions about HH, ask GRZ to provide proof and then arrest HH if HH has done anything bad in his dealings on privatisation that was carried out collectively under the MMD GOVERNMENT not not individually by HH.

  31. Forward and in tune with the Nation #38. I understand your position and thank you. All the best and take care my friend.

On your marks, get set and go. Go HH, “this is our time and this is our moment”. Zambia, change by voting HH, change we can believe in – for their is not flip-flopping in HH, but Hon. Sata is daily changing his stance on any issue like a chameleon changes its colour to suit the environment around it.

  32. When I first started coming to these forums, I thought that I had found a place where I could discuss pertinent issues with fellow Zambians about the future of our country. I did not know that I was actually walking onto a platform where people espouse disgusting sentiments such as no19. Please LT,I know there is a principle of free speech, but hate speech such as espoused by some on these fora has no place in the future of our country so please do something about it. If things do not change, some of us will have to go elsewhere. As Zambians we live in a country that has known only peace but I fear for our future if we have so much antagonism amongst our selves.

  33. When is UNZA going to be re-OPENED?

As an un-official supporter of “HH waboola – Real ray of change and hope Zambians can believe in”, I am asking all Internet bloggers to visit ww w. hakainde. co m and vote for the place they are found so that the census being carried out can show meaningful results on parts where voters can be reached.

  34. I doubt that Cycle Mata would instill much investor confidence. We need both local & foreign investment but Sata’s rhetoric before 2006 elections showed his true colours on this score. In today’s global village, any leader who shoots down tangible FDI will be digging his own grave. FDI is not the problem, all we need is a leak proof legal & regulatory environment that protects both the Zambian stakeholders as well as the investor i.e win-win situation.

  35. #45,the answer is no.Sata has no technical know-how of driving this country economically.Dont be deceived by people who shout the loudest for Sata, those are his blind tribal mates supporting their local team bt tribalism wil not bring food to our tables.Vote wisely bane for hunger knows no tribe!

  36. No. 45 our late president showed us what a real lead does when he sees that things are going wrong. he resigned but some so called leaders remained for the benefit of their pockets and time and again changed the constitution to suit them. thank God the third term bid was short dowm.we need to move forward

  37. No. 40 and 43 try to become original and do not plaigerise Obama’s slogans and message. HH and Obama are not the same. Whilst Obama turned down lucrative jobs from top law firms in order to serve the downtrodden in Southside Chicago; HH jumped onto the privatisation bandwagon to enrich himself at the expense of the sufferring Ramcoz, Lima Bank and other workers. One went out of his way to serve the disadvantaged in society whilst the other rode on the disadvantaged to amass personal wealth. It is said it is only the undertaker who profits in the death of others.

  38. You guys,
Let us not misplace people; SATA does very well as opposition leader and that is where he belongs.
You want to make a fisherman a pilot and a pilot a fisherman; it cant work.
Let SATA continue as opposition. Its is just that we dont vote 4 someone to become opposition leader, otherwise I would have voted 4 SATA to have a permanent seat as opposition leader.
Anyway since they continue to be opposition leaders by loosing, I will still contribute by not voting 4 him. So those who voted 4 him in 2006 wasted votes. Those of us who did not vote 4 him helped him to get his current position. SATA President, not at all!!

  39. I am Tonga but cannot support HH and his tribal tendencies. For those of you who are still dreaming about HH and Southern Province support just wait and see if this time he will get many votes like he did in 2006. The political landscape in the province has changed. People are tired to voting for the change that never comes. Actually, if you ask me, there are some indications on the ground that Sata might do well in Southern Province this time around. Mark my words… am on the ground and I interact with the people! Even UPND knows this fact. Some people feel Sata can represent them better because of HH’s inactivity…they actually say Mazoka provided a better leadership for the party.

  40. I am Tonga and I do not support HH because of his tribe.I support HH because he is clean. He won the UPND presidential election democratically where Sakwiba Sikota who was then Veep failed to convince cadres from all 9 provinces of Zambia to win him the presidentcy of UPND.The HH made his money cleanly and GRZ has not charged him (HH) of any theft – even under the so-called good leadership of late President LP Mwanawasa. HH has UPND structures in all 9 provinces of Zambia. HH is educated and has both international and national exposure and partnerships which will certainly bring in more investor confidence.Lastly, we do not need GRZ to always hire HH as an expert to fix the economy.

  41. Cont’d…. Why must GRZ always seek HH’s expertise as a consultant when HH can easily do it as his job in the name of President of Zambia.

On the otherhand, both Hon. Sata and RB are old and we do not wnat to stress any of them – so much as to endanger their lives. Secondly, Sata changes his position anyhow anytime to suit his quest to get into Plot 1. What do you think Hon. Sata will do now that he failed to do under Chiluba when he was Minister without Portfolio except to try to silence then anti-MMD people (especially UNZA students) by using thugs from Chawama and Kulima Tower.

  42. ZAMPOLLS – Quick Poll
Who is the best person to succeed Levy Mwanawasa in the upcoming presidential by-election?
    • Hakainde Hichilema 39.9%
    • Michael Sata 37.6%

    Total votes: 1282

  43. ALL THIS TALK ABOUT TRIBE IS IRRELEVANT,CANDIDATES SHOULD BE JUDGED ON MERIT IRRESPECTIVE OF WHICH VILLAGE THEY ORIGINATED FROM.THIS IS 2008 AND NOT 1962.

  44. #53. Maestro Hhehhehhehhe,
the government seeks consultancy work from so many zambians, and if it means if you are consulted then you are better being presidents then alas how many presidents will end up with!

  45. #21 believe me. HH does not stand a chance on the copperbelt.
I last bumped into him at Ndola Airport. Unfortunately no one really knew him and he had to go round greeting each one and introducing himself. …… as if we needed to know him. That’s how popular he is !!!!

  46. #58, do you worry yourself about HH’s popularity as of now. Ask us – who know how Zambians in Zambia have taken his case – after 1 November 2008.

“Wina azalila wina azaseka” – unknown.

  47. Why do we always talk of foreign investors? No foreign can develop Zambia,we need Zambians to take charge of the destiny of this country.Chinese come here to help china,Indian too.Wake up and sought out some of these fake investors.Zambia is being raped day in day out.Our natural resources are in the hands of foreigners.Shame on MMD new Deal!!

  48. HH with his know how manage to enrich himself at the expense of Luanshya miners and many Zambian still suffering even as I type this note.We do not need technical know,we need someone who can deliver.Surle people will vote for HH,but only in Southern province,we all know the tribalism Tongas exibit once they are in a posotion of influence.Remember the former parastatals and how Tongas mistreated other tribes at work.Ifwe ni pabwato!!We have Lusaka,CB.Northern,Luapula and Half of Central.Rb has only Eastern province and HH Southern.Western and N/western are in darkness!!

  49. Take NOTE #25,#26, #27,#29 Even if every TONGA voted for HH, the rest of Zambian tribes will vote as well your tribal votes are not enough to win.We are all Zambians lets not go back to the dark ages.
As for #26 Love,do you get your rocks of by insulting bembas?Sooner or later a bemba man will be in plot 1.you cannot judge every bemba man because of Chiluba. As for CHEELO YOU A GREAT TONGA MAN; if a tonga bull like you with a sincere heart like you yours were to stand for president alot of zambians, regardless tribe would vote for you please stay real and be blessed.LET US REMOVE THE TRIBAL TRASH FROM ZAMBIAN LIFE

  50. I AM VERY CONVINCED THAT THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO WOULD WIN INVESTORS IA NONE OTHER THAN HH FOR HIS CREDIBILITY.

RUPIAH BANDA IS A VERY SELFISH LEADER WHO WOULD ONLY WANT TO ENRICH HISELF. HE HAS NO HEART FOR ZAMBIA APART FROM HIS RELATIVES IN EASTERN PROVINCE.

    VIVA HH

  51. No. 66 a simple quiz for you. Which corporate manager kept Ramcoz workers in misery? Which corporate manager robbed Sun Hotel workers of their 10% service charges? Which corporate manager closed down most Barclays Bank branches arround the country and sold of their properties when they were chairman of Barclays Board only to have Barclays three years later operating from make shift shelters in the same areas where they closed shop and sold of their properties? By the way, I am not talking about Gordon Brown the corporate manager who has lamentably failed to lead.

  52. # 67 your hatred for HH will consume you. The truth of the matter today is that HH invested properly. When Sata was spending money on extra marital affairs HH bought 20 herds of cattle and today HH has 8000 cattle K8.8billion while Sata has a chain of children all over Lusaka. All those comapnies you are mentioning were privatised by the Zambian govt of Chiluba. As for Barclays the HH became its board chairman in 2005 when Barclays had already commited itself to scale down its operations. So please let us debate on truth and not imaginations. Ramcoz is in that state because Chiluba refused credible investors because he wanted the company for himself.

  53. Sata will be worse than Chiluba. Sata supports Taiwan and Mugabe who is victimising the very people he is supposed to protect because Sata believes in violence. When Sata was MMD national secretary you could not go to Kulima tower in a UNIP or UPND tshirt. As Nawakwi what happened to her when she went to Kulima tower in a FDD tshirt after she had resigned from MMD. Sata is simply anti law.

  54. HH was given a job to do with specific guidelines from the privatisation agency and he delivered and got paid. Even today the Nchito brothers are geting K100+ million per month from the Task force on corruption and it will be wrong to call themm thieves tomorrow. People may not like it but in this election HH is the best candidtate and you can see comments from his opponents are baseless. If the Sata camp want to personalise the issue you say so we shall attack. We have the ammunition. For now I want to restrict my self to look at what Sata, HH and RB have to say on investors, education and health. I know that HH and Sata look at these issues differently.

  55. I thought the aim was to vote for someone who will improve the life of the AVERAGE Zambian?… oops I forgot this is Zambian politics never mind!

  56. NO TONGA WILL EVER BE LEADER DREAM ON## MR R BANDA IS THE ONE LIKE IT OR NOT.MAKE HH HERDMAN (headman) OF YOUR TONGA VILLAGE YOU TRIBALISTS, BY THE WAY I HAVE TWO TONGA WIVIES RIGHT HERE IN CALI,BOY DO THEY DETEST TONGA MEN, GAT GO AND ATTEND TO MYGURU

  57. I fail to understand why most of the people even educated one fail to know what tribulism is. Pipo say Tongas are tribul if you ask why the say that some don’t have a good reason why they say that. Some say becoz HH won in southern part of the country. asking the who won in the copperbelt they say its Sata what tribe is he they say he is Bemba. And it not tribulism to them for they are bembas.

Is the any one who can teach Bembas what tribalism is? Some says Tongas and Lozis will not be presidents of Zambia. Lets us choose the president who will develop our country. not these old pipo u guys are getting from the recycle bin. leave old pipo to lets in there farms. HH is OK

  58. # 73 you are shameful. The good news is that this talk of tribalsim will not work any more. people now know that it is a tool used by Bembas to stop others from ruling. Having a stronghold is not tribal. If HH, Sata and Banda can’t win in Southern, Northern and Eastern respectively then they should forget about the presidency. Charity begins at home. I can speak for HH. HH has invested a lot in Southern province as he now employs about 150 people on his farms and other businesses in the province. If you think Tongas are tribal ask magande and he will tell that he can not win in Southern province despite the fact that he is Tonga. In southern people just detest MMD, period.

  59. Just an addition Tongas vote for the person they think is good for them. In 1996 Chiluba had the highest yes vote from southern province than any other province, why didnt you call Tongas tribal then. Also note that besides Luska and copperbelt which are cosmopolitan provinces, southern province has the highest number of people that have settled from other provinces than any province in the country. Teacher, nurses and doctors find it easy to retire and settle in southern province than any other province because of the accommodating nature of the people there. Deep in the village you will find a Bwalya, Banda or Lubinda but not in northern province.

  60. What kind of investors are people talking about? For RB to sleep in the lodge of an investor in chingola instead of the presidential guest house? What is he trying to do sell off our country to the so called investors? People that are locking our own people in premises of work? Suppose fire broke out. Chinese that are beating up our people? C’mon Zambians we need to protect our own. Look at what has happened to Kavindele’s railwayline project. Shame Viva Sata, viva PF

  61. #49. We didnt waste our vote since you agree that he has worked well as opposition leader. If anything MMD under the late agreed to the fact that Sata made him work

  62. HH did well to snub Sata because Bembas do not want a Tonga while easterners are more accommodating. In 2011 Sata cant marshall support for HH in northern province. Tongas and easterners have similar farming life styes. The electoral map is changing. Right now HH has southern, central, western and n/western. He had eastern province until RB stood. Now MMD wants to drop RB in 2011 then eastern will swing to HH. Smart move HH. For now HH needs to work on Luska for 2011 and if he wins Lusaka he will be president in 2011 even with the 50% + 1 vote system and depite what people in northern, luapula and copperbelt vote for. Also this election is not a matter of do or die for HH so no deals

  63. No. 76 There is no other leader who ascended to the presidency of their party on the cry, “It must be a Tonga”. Apologists say that he did not say so himself. If he did not object to such campaigns why did he not reject and renounce the surrogates who were doing so? Ethical people such as Obama denounce wrong things emanating from their camp and eject such people from their campaigns. Instead HH ejected and harrassed Ompie Nkumbula who rejected and renounced the call that it must be a Tonga.

  64. No. 70 says that HH was given a job with guidelines and only executed it. So were the Gestapo in the Third Reich, should we therefore excuse them? A true patriot would have said I will not carry out a flawed privatisation just for the love of money.Obama in the USA could have taken a lucrative legal job but instead chose to champion the cause of the poor by becoming a community worker in Southside Chicago. We should look at what motivates some of these candidates. Are they there for the people’s interests or their own?

  65. HH needs to tell us whether he would consider it ethical for one of his ministers to be sent to negotiate on behalf of Zambia with some investor and immediately thereafter accept to become that company’s board Chairman. Would he consider that to be ethical and above board? Would that be synonymous with fighting corruption? If his answer to these questions is “Yes” then he has no business aspiring to be president. If his answer is “No” then why did he accept to become Board Chairman of Sun Hotel immediately after negotiating “on behalf of the Zambian people” the privatization of Hotel Mosi-o-Tunya?

  66. There is no hatred for HH just an observation that when he became Barclays Board chairman he carried on with a wrong and flawed policy of shutting down bank branches countrywide and selling of the properties. In other words he did not have the foresight to halt the disastrous policy. It is fair to assume that were he to become President all the bad things happening he would continue with and after his term plead that he found those policies already in Place. In other words he has no capacity to change anything going wrong in Zambia. He cannot even recognize when something is wrong and reverse it for the good of the country!

  67. # 81 you have a choice on who you want to believe in the same way The Post chose what to report and not report when HH was coming to prominence. The fact is that HH never said those words and HH has friends and business partners from all over Zambia. Even in US Foxnews has chosen not to believe Obama on the fact that he never heard Rev Wright say those bad words. It is there choice and so is your choice believe what the Post says or doesnt say. But on paper qualifications I have no doubt that HH in this election is best suited to move our country forward. In 2011 MMD is romoured to be targeting Mutati as their candidate and that will be in the right direction without having to look at tribe

  68. # 1 I suggest that you look up the meaning of investor, because if you actually checked you will find that these are individuals or multi national corporations that actually BRING MONEY into a country, risking everything mind you, they create JOBS for the likes of you and me, and actually contribute the economic boom because it means more people are earning an income instead of thieving and drinking beer at 10 o’clock!

  69. #84 why did Sata keep council money at his personal account at Standard Chartered Bank to earn interest for himself? If you are looking for angels for president then you will not find them in Zambia.

  70. # 84 As for Barclays HH was appointed board chairman in 2005 and it was his correction measures that infact saw barclays reopen those rural branches. If you want to know why barclays closed the branches then ask Margret Mwanakatwe. It is one of the reasons why she was transfered. If she had weak political connections she could have been fired. Lastly just in case you do not know the proceedure, BOZ can not approve somebody with corruption background to be a board memeber and later on chairman of a bank. People like Katele Kalumba cant be a board member or chairman in zambia under the current Banking&Fiancial services Act. Chitala was proposed for a bank I wont name but BOZ dropped his name.

  71. Brian No 84 Please corordinate your response with Chris No 68, which is the correct position. The shot at Magaret Mwanakatwe is low. In the corporate world we do not transfer people if they do wrong- we fire them or remove them from the Board even if they chair that board. By the way Katele can be a board member as there is a presumption of innocence in Zambia.

  72. It is quite sad that we are dwelling on ethnic issues. As far as I know it is not unsual in most Zambian families to find a Nsenga mum , a Lunda father ,a Tonga uncle , Bemba in-laws , Chewa cousins and sometimes India coloured. I very much doubt if there is any family that is pure Lozi , Bemba , Tonga or whatever tribe. So just cut the crap and talk real issues.

We should be spending time on real issues like employment , heath , wealth creation and empowerment . Very few of our politicians have these on thier agenda. They are preoccupied about thier own agenda often based on self empowerment and that of their cronies.

We need leaders who think and see beyond themselves.

  73. Does your language have a word for “COMPUTER”, “AIR CONDITIONER”, and CELL PHONE etc? If you are so proud of your language, please translate this for us

“ I WAS BLOGGING ON THE LUSAKATIMES SITE WHEN THE WEBSITE FAILED. THE BROWSER I WAS USING MAY HAVE BEEN HIT BY A TROJAN OR VIRUS, I AM SURE. MICROSOFT WINDOWS IS VULNERABLE TO SUCH THREATS”

Chances are that you cannot. Those who cared to study history will know that languages evolve . This is true of the past as it is of today. As a matter of fact, some of the languages will even disappear from the surface of the earth like did Latin or the ” DODO” from Madagascar

So let us no be shallow is our discussions. Let’s dwell on issues

  74. Connie, Connie, HH will not make it as President because all his supporters think the job is done already. He has serious credebility issues when it comes to tribalism that he needs to seriously address. You may say it is just people’s perceptions but sometimes perception is more potent than reality.
