Sata accuses FRA

Share

The opposition Patriotic Front-PF- has charged that the recent decision by the Food Reserve Agency-FRA- to increase the price of maize is political.

PF leader, Michael Sata, alleges that the move is aimed at winning support from farmers ahead of presidential elections scheduled for October 30.

Mr. Sata has accused the FRA of collaborating with government to disadvantage farmers who sold their maize at 45 thousand kwacha.

Government has increased the floor price of maize.

A 50 Kilogram bag of maize now costs K55,000.00 from K45,000.00

In a letter addressed to FRA Board Chairman, Costain Chilala and made available to ZNBC news, Mr. Sata said government should compensate all the farmers who sold their maize at K45,000.00.

Mr. Sata also said the decision to increase the price of maize will have an effect on the price of mealie meal in the country.

  1. Ofcourse it’s political. Why should things start improving from nowhere now when we are about to go to the polls? I mean don’t misunderstand us, we welcome all this but it’s too much, fuel reductions and now this? I really wish something they could do right now is the power cuts in the name of loadshadding. Even if they used it as a political strategy, it would be good for Zambians to take a rest from living like they are in a village when they’re in urban places. It can also save the people’s money on Wasted food in the fridge and extra costs of candles, Generators and charcoal when their Zesco bills are not changing at all inspite of the load shading. Yaba! Awe Mwandi. God help us!

  2. DON’T WORRY SATA, THE MAJORITY ARE THE CONSUMERS WHO WILL VOTE. THE MINORITY ARE FARMERS WHO WILL TEMPORARILY BENEFIT…. THESE GUYS ARE DIGGING THEIR OWN GRAVE.

  3. Every thing in zambia is becoming ‘politikalu’ fuel, maize, sugar, unza opening, grading roads, donating vehicles ukusefya pa crokodile name them.Wait and see before 30.10.2008. Amazing grace for zambia.

  4. Yes it is political to increase meal mealie at this point in time. To day the barrel for crude oil is $120++ and yet Rupia is reducing fuel who is going to pay for this after elections its you Zambians coz Mulongoti will tell you that the govt reduced fuel temporily for your benefit and now we the govt will increase the price to match the global price. People wake up, for how long are they going to feed you with lies every election times. Sugar, salt, chitenge and MMD t-shirts will not take you anywhere. Just get these things and vote wisely.

  5. #1 Zoona. Don’t generalize this village thing. Villages in some places are posher than towns. By the way the word ‘village’ does not mean poverty, sickness, hunger, disease, etc. To the contrally it means ‘GREEN’-fresh air, clean water, good medical facilities, posh schools, clinics and hospitals, to mention but a few. Big towns are highly poluted.

  6. #8 thats what village means in the UK. In zambia it means exactly what you say it doesn’t – apart from the green and fresh air

  7. The floor price of maize increasing is in line with the current high food prices. What’s wrong with increasing the maize floor price now whether elections are on or not. Sata is not asking whether the FRA is continuing to purchase during the campaign.

  8. #8 Give the man a break. Villages in Zambia don’t mean the same thing as villages in the UK. Get off your high horse dude – you know exactly what it means to leave in a village pa Zed.

  9. vote like what the people of kabwata cost, during chiluba ,get the handyouts save your little money but vote wisely, learn how to catch a fish and not been fed all the time.unfortunately am too far to vote.wish zedians gud lucky.

  10. #10, iwe ci koshet, these people were supposed to increase the maize prices before buying any from farmers not after ,waumfwa uletontokanya, you want to be like Rupiah banda.

  11. Princess, London you are funny but also kind of right.

This is to everyone out there, are you guys a bunch of critics or what? When someone reduces the price you jump on them ” politics!”, increases the price this time you jump again “politics!!”, this time gives out free stuff no sooner ‘mwaima ibaka’ “POLITICS!!!!” Can anyone please you?

  12. You guys now you start calling us grew up in villages as nothing or what? We now them, even if they come with sugar, maize whatever, ni pa Bwato…. You see even #3 & 4 Lozis will kekata pa Kuomboka kaufela. Chabula ni Sata.

  13. Sata is good ‘kufishobo'(your mama jokes) and speculation, when a Minister lies that the price of oil has dropped and mockes that he will reduce gas prices by K1 from almost K10,000, Sata says NOTHING.

  14. I wish the general public in Zambia had to this site and that contributors did it to edify, correct, and rebuke the gov., politicians and the readers out of love the country.

  15. “Greedy” will be the downfall of Sata and HH. These guys have such an insatiable graving for power that it will lead to their political demise. Surely it’s common sense that if they had merged, they would have given RB a tough time. If Mugabe and Tsangirai can compromise, why can’t these two? This boy, HH should’ve been Sata’s vice and this would have positioned him well for 2011 and he would have scrubbed off the tribal tag. But the boy can not get it through his head. I’ve always said posterity will harshly judge these two for allowing RB to win. The two get on my nerves, they suck.

  16. am told even the fertiliser subsidy facility has been increased to 70% from 50%. but last itwas reduced from 60% to 50%.

  17. am told even the fertilizer subsidy facility has been increased to 70% from 50%. but last year it was reduced from 60%to 50%.

  18. Zedian (#23), real Zedians pa ‘Z’, who will benefit from this, need much more than a subsidy. This means that the price of food will be affordable for the poor who happen to be the majority of the population .

  19. POST HEADLINE
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) president Michael Sata yesterday revealed that he has received reports that former president Frederick Chiluba is being courted by Vice-President Rupiah Banda’s campaign team, seeking his support during the October 30 presidential election.

But MMD campaign committee chairperson Mike Mulongoti yesterday said that while Vice-President Banda had not met with Chiluba, there were people in MMD who felt that Chiluba should support Vice-President Banda.

  20. And when contacted for comment, Mulongoti said Chiluba was a citizen and free to join any political party of his choice.

“Dr. Chiluba still carries influence in the country and any party which is wise will want to have him around. You mean Dr Chiluba hasn’t got interest in whoever becomes president?” Mulongoti asked. “I have not met him (Chiluba), the candidate Vice-President Banda has not met him but there are others concerned that he needs to be brought closer.”

Reminded that Chiluba left MMD in 2006, Mulongoti responded: “Are you saying that people don’t move from party to party? If there are some points he feels unhappy about, he moves away and then comes back when he feels thi

  21. On the contrary it is good to increase the floor price for the farmers in preparation for th next farming season. But then by so doing food will be expensive and especially maize products such as meali meal, nsembe(Oats) etc Another thing is prices will not change much even though the fuel prices be reduced. High food prices+ low fuel prices =the same thing if at all there will be anything food prices will be even higher. The amount reduced for fuel is less than that of maize floor price.

Fuel reduction is by K1000=00 and Maize buying price is K10,000 higher.
The ratio is 1:10 They want people to think things will be cheaper then they will give other excuses. As to why prices get high

  22. We are still waiting for Sata’s CV. What high school did he go too? What college or Universtity? All we know he was a Constable. We have so many educated pipo like Fundanga, Mutati’s and we settle for a Lilayi graduate.!!

Bane what is wrong with us.

  23. #8 be realistic and honest. You know what a village is like in Zambia…don’t pretend you don’t know. Just contribute to the issue at hand.

  24. I hear some PF member has gone to court to prevent Sata from standing coz the party has not had a convention. PF is at again.

  25. You guys asking for MC Sata’s educational CV, what is high school details got to do with him standing for presidency? Try to see the CV of the current Brazillian president and how he is performing. Some of Zedians with the best academic CVs can also be the worst leaders. Leadership qualities are not acquired throught one going to a good school.

  26. This Saka guy, he cann’t even be democartic in his own party and expect him to come and be a fair and just leader? Zed lets wake up and smell the coffee. this same two faced man, does not use the power of reasoning, but has been used by other leaders, as a cadre to promote self interests, remember 3rd term, remember Vigelatis, this is our country we r trying to play a joke on, as we r just getting excited wit Sata’s cheap talk. Think Hard and wise Country Man and woman. i rest my case.

  27. Goodmorning PF guyz, tekcare im rushing to the high court for nominations. Chishimba is alread a full dont mind him. See you later.MMD & UPND Pliz just team up coz you are going no where. Viva SATA. Miss u cute,Where are you?

  28. ba saviour Chishimba you cannot win PF Presidency, u have been a blind follower of FTJ and now u are causing comfusion in PF. God will never grant your evil wish. Your injunction is a fallacy and callous. form your own political party and we meet in the battle field. other “rebel 25 PF Mp’s” disasociate from this Kasama central MP and rejoin PF proper, MMD will use you and later dump you. rupiah is surrounded with con-men chiluba included who is using sickness to evasde jail term (life inprisonment). I now fear LPM could have been eliminated. zambians lets invetsigate this.

  29. Objectivity should the main discussion on what ever issue that comes. ladies and gentlemen. let us critically analyse the issue at hand, it could be that we can lought not knowing what is obtaining on the ground. There are things that have a direct bearing on our lives and those that came to be felt later. the hiking of maize floor price can be seen at two different angles. one of the immediate effect will be the prices of the final products will go up.but what the long term effects the farmer will be motivated. the wrong thing here is the timing. they are other issues to do with inputs which should be considered. think critically.

  30. MMD are now following Chiluba, If Mwanawasa was able to look back at what is happening with confused MMD he would have sacked RB and Mulongoti. Really what does RB stands for on his own. Chiluba is still facing corruption charges. Anyway, ZAMBIA WE CRY.

  31. SATA HAS NO FARM THEREFORE HE CAN’T PROMOTE AGRIULTURE.HE IS ROTING TEETH AND STINKING KAMWA.DON’T VOTE RB,HE MANKWINYA HIS FACE.PLS YOUTH DON’T WASTE YOUR VOTES ON VERY OLD GUARDS.VOTE WISELY MAFELAA..VOTE HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  32. Mbozi, i also keep wondering as to what is wrong with Zambian’s. Why should anyone vote for someone of the likes of SATA? What can a constable offer this country? Whats more? constable in those days where grade VII not even grade 9 or form II. This man is capable of president .

  33. ‘LAMULO NI LAMULO’- ‘THE LAW IS THE LAW’- DIRECT TRANSLATION.

SATA needs to follow his own (PF) Law. The only problem is that he cant read, neither can his blind followers.

The DOC is right. Try explaining that to THUGS and blind followers. Nix. That is the problem with ignorance.

Here is a clear evidence of the THUGERINESS of one COBRA and his pinions.

  34. Xavier Chishimba is either a very brave man or just highly misled….but I must say I admire his resolve. One suggestion to the NCC, for any party to successfuly field a presidential candidate in the general elections in future, they should have held a democratic party convention since the previous elections….this way we will have legitimate party leaders vying for presido positions and not tyrants and personal-to-holder candidates….viva democracy!!

  35. Mr Sata failed to get nominated democratically by his own party. What is he doing by defending himself in Court today? Anyone read Animal Farm? Do we not see dictatorial tendencies in this gentleman? Can we honestly trust him to rule this country? His angry face on TV last night spoke volumes. Who will have the courage to approach or advise this grandpa who knows everything? It is quite obvious indeed that education does very little for some citizens in this country. Tribe is not a qualification.

  36. Imwee mwebantu … if the amount of ‘thuggeriness’ being displayed at the high court by PF supporters is what they can offer then we are headed for a Zim type of quandary if at all they form government after October 30!

  37. shame, but where was chishimba all this time. who has paid him or who is putting jam on his bread, or has he just been reading the PF constitution.my advise to you sir is dont copy if you cant paste…

  38. #31. Mr Mbuzi your hate for Sata is questioned. We all know Sata is the mouth of the mouthless. What beta CV can you ask for apart from looking at what the old man did in the Minis. of Health and others? Do you undestand the words Curriculum Vitae? Leave our man alone my brother! Go to the Govt Hospitals and Govt schools and see what your so called educated men have done. We have the best Doctor in the Southern Region but where is he? Why are our Leaders go out of this country for treatment? Do you know the Doctor found in those hospitals. CV my foot! You beta wake youn man face the problems of our nation! this is no playing matter!

  39. #36 I sympathise with you that you find yourself backing an illiterate candidate but the Brazillian standards cannot be used as benchmark. There is simply no substitute for education in the 21st century. There is no point to demand high qualifications for an accountant at Ministry of finance or a phd holder for the govornor of BOZ yet you want him to be briefing an illiterate president. What “language” are they going to use. The Brizilian president came in through a revolution. We had one in 1991 which gave us an illiterate president in Chiluba and we all know where Chiluba took the country out of his ignorance. Education is the way forward, period.

  40. I meant why do our leaders? not why are our leaders. Anyway I would rather vote for Sata than come and regret in December when fuel will be K12,000 per litre and 25Kg mealie meal K75,000 per bag. PAbwat my dear! ABo BaXavier Chishimba nga babatumine kuli ba Chiluba na ba RB tell him he did not meet Sata. Twanaka namacushi! IWe Chi Chishimba kapange party yobe!

  41. Pipo who are supporting HH should be serious, do you real want to be ruled by a free masons (devil worshiper)! Him and Katele kalumba are two of the kind – INDOSHI. Katele is using home made computer to monitor country elections and HH is using sophisticated computers for his evil intentions. PRAYER MY DEAR FRIENDS SO THAT WE DEFEAT THIS EVILS WHO WANT TO TAKE OVER OUR COUNTRY THROUGH ONE HH.

  42. Chishimba is doing the right thing. Sata has not been to the convetion for 7 years since PF was formed. Zambia is a democracy and parties that cannot have internal democracy must be questioned before they run for Zambian presidency. Sata has a serious question about his dictatorship tendecies and lack of party democracy in PF auguments the point that Sata is a dictator or it does not help in clearly does about Sata’s attitude towards democracy. Sata is know for thaggerism which is always synonymous with dictators. So Chishimba is saying that he wants to be PF president and the only way to silency him is to go to the convetion.

  43. #64 if you don’t support HH end at that. It is not right to make falsehoods. HH has never been a member of the mansons. We have a country to manage so I would rather we look at qualifications of candidates than falsehoods. Help your country by being factual when debating national issues. People are honestly asking for Sata’s cv and instead of giving us his cv you end up giving falsehoods about other candidates. Please give us Sata’s cv because the one I know is as follows
    Standard six
    Grade D lilayi constable certificate

  44. Iam sorry to say, but CVs are used for the benefit of holder of that CV not other pipo. For us CVs of RB,SATA,HH will not bring food on our tables! that is for their own advantage not the public’s benefit. Zed right now needs a man with HEART, COMPASIONATE, KINDNESS AND ABOVE ALL GOD GIVEN WISDOM!

  45. THE COURTING OF CHILUBA BY THE MMD IS THE BIGGEST BETRAYAL RUPIAH BANDA HAS DONE NOT ONLY TO LEVY(MHRIP) BUT ALSO TO THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE AS A WHOLE.THESE ARE SOWN PLUNDERERS,YET WE HAVE PEOPLE SAYING THEY WILL UPHOLD THE LEGACY OF MWANAWASA.NOW I DO UNDERSTAND WHY THE POST CALLED RB-JUDAS ISCARIOT
INDEED HE IS NOT ONLY TO LPM BUT TO EVERY SOUND MINDED ZAMBIAN.EVEN THE INJUCTION OF CHISHIMBA AGAINST SATA ARE CHILUBA’S POLITICAL MACHINATION.ZAMBIANS PLEASE,PLEASE LETS WAKE UP THIS ONCE AND VOTE MMD OUT.LEVY AND MAZOKA MUST BE TURNING IN THEIR GRAVES,ITS SO SAD AND DISGUSTING, TO SAY THE LEAST

  46. Hunger can triger very strong halucinatory impulses on the brain. Whether human or otherwise.

In a desert a mirage appears fueling thirst for water.

We are a hungry and thirsty nation. Let us be wary of tricksters and sweet talkers.

But this advise is really suitable to the informed and those who bother to use their facaulties.

There is an imaginary boat going rounds full of goodies. If you enter that boat suddenly you will be rich and will be bathing in milk. Everyone will have mansions and ma motoka ni mbwee.

  47. The news on the ZNBC website should now occupy the PF secratriat. Nothing like a perfectly timed truth and bring confusion into an already disorganised process. Ba Chishimba – has done what most people have not dared to voice and that is the self-impossed president people want for Zambia?

I am miffed because the PF thugs delayed my trip to the office this morning

  48. Things are really moving so fast such that within a week you feel left out to certain political activities. This is the time when people are performing using the govt name for their own person interest. From 50% – 60% and now is 70%. It is for the betters yet this will be even be worse than they might look after 30 october cause by then they should have gained what they want. plot one, ministerial and maliamentary. Men of action for their own interest and their own doen fall.

  49. Things are really moving so fast such that within a week you feel left out to certain political activities. It is for the better yet this will be even be worse than they might look after 30 october cause by then they should have gained what they want. plot one, ministerial and paliamentary. Men of action for their own interest and their own down fall.

  50. I don’t care what anyone says about lack of education not being an indicator for performance. A basic degree is essential to run a country in this day and age. Even the Govt doesn’t employee non-degree holders very much these days because its is viewed as a basic tool to most decision making offices today. So we can’t leave the running of an entire country to an illiterate person.

  51. #66 My dear bro read my contributions again in #64 there is no mention of me being supporter of Sata – but I was merely putting across what i know about that man called HH, just like you are demanding Sata’s CV. Like some said someway your hate for Sata will take you to the grave yard faster than you expect, bcoz though one did not mention the name Sata you conclude that he is a Sata supporter, my good God, friend get a life and cleanse Sata from blood, he is not the only threat to your HH for you to get worked up in that manner!

  52. Pabwato – ‘Zero babwana’. BUT if RB is courting Chiluba then Mwanawasa will come to hound MMD out of govt. How can anyone in his normal senses build alliances with Chiluba? Anyway, we only hope its Sata’s scare crow messages because that is the kind of liar he has always been. NEVER TRUST SATA and please Zambians throw away anything that smells CHILUBA. Zambians work hard for what they eat but Chiluba and Sata work hard to STEAL what others have worked for. Abash CHILUBA and ABASH Sata!!!!! But if RB entertains CHILUBA then a disaster is looming I can tell you!! CHILUBA ahhhhh!!!! Unless we are mad!!!

  53. #75 Chibe Chibe

This is Mmembe’s gimmick. You know his heart is sour and bitter with GRZ. Its an attempt to divert attention.

His 3 million dollar investment in Zambian Airways is at stake.

  54. ba LT where have you posted my comments are you backing HH number 64 has just mentioned that HH is a mason and i call all God loving people to start praying and you blocked that….why??????????

  55. Does anyone have the latest on Sata’s court injuction case that was scheduled for this morning? And how come LT hasnt written about it when even BBC reported it?

  56. #74 I combined my answer with other comments on the blog. I havent been on the blog for a while now. However my point is that we should demand high education standards from our leaders. I am yet to see a country that is flourishing wwith an illiterate leader. As for HH my view is that he might not be the best brain in the country but in this election, on the basis of education and what he has achieved at 45years, he is the best candidate. People will say that he got money from privatisation but imagine that HH was illiterate, was he going to be given the contract he was given? of course not. Education just makes you see opportunities where others see problems as is the case with our leaders.

  57. #76, I can only hope you are right. But if this what Mmembe can do then he also needs to be castrated. It is unfair to frame people like that without facts. Anyway, whatever Zambians do, as long as they DO NOT elect SATA or allow him to rig, then that is fine by me. I hate lazy people who want to take advantage of others. SATA has never had a farm. Where does he think the food he eats comes from? The man can NEVER be a president or Zambia will be up in flames. RB or HH, no problem but RB must distance himself from thieves also.

  58. PATRIOTIC Front leader Michael Sata has not yet filed his nomination, as he is awaiting a ruling on whether he is eligible to contest the election or not.

This follows an application for an injunction by Kasama Central PF member of parliament Saviour Chishimba to restrain Sata from filing in his nomination papers today before Chief Justice Ernest Sakala.

Chishimba is claiming that Sata is not a legitimate PF president and could therefore not contest the elections.

The matter, before Lusaka High Court judge Phillip Musonda, is still being argued by Sata’s lawyers, Bonaventure Mutale and Edgar Lungu, and Chishimba’s lawyer, Mutakela Lisimba.

However, Sata, who arrived at the Sup

  59. However, Sata, who arrived at the Supreme Court in the company of his wife Dr Christine Kaseba around 09:00 hours, has been allowed into the Supreme Court and his 200 supporters have already been screened.

  60. Degrees without heart, compasionate, kindness and God given wisdom are like getting degrees on toilet papers, Mugabe’s 15 degrees have ruined the once bread basket country to dogs!
