ACC welcomes Aka’s plan to quit

Share

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has welcomed one of its Commissioners Akashabarwa Mbikusita-Lewanika’s intention to resign.

ACC Chairperson Valentine Chileshe says Mr Mbikusita-Lewanika’s involvement in active politics is denting the good image of the commission.

Justice Chileshe says Mr Mbikusita-Lewanika’s public declaration of being an active politician does not serve the best interest of the Commission.

Justice Chileshe said this during a press briefing in Lusaka on Tuesday.

“I wish to state that the position of the ACC is that Commissioners and ACC Staff should not be involved in active politics as that creates a conflict on interest that undermines our role of fighting corruption without fear, favour or political affiliation real or perceived.

” Therefore, Mr. Mbikusita-Lewanika’s plan to resign is welcome,” Justice Chileshe said.

ACC Commissioner Mbikusita-Lewanika is reported in the media to have said that he is considering resigning from the Commission following heavy criticism that he cannot serve the ACC objectively as a politician.

The ACC chairperson said the reputation of the Commission is negatively affected and legal ACC provisions Section 8 (2) provides for an ACC Commissioner to resign upon giving one-month notice in writing to the President.

And ACC Acting Director-General (DG) Rosewin Wandi implored both the media and the general public to be vigilant by reporting suspects of corruption.

She said this was the only way late republican President Levy Mwanawasa’s zero tolerance to corruption could be maintained.

The Acting DG pointed out that her Commission will handle corruption cases professionally without undue influence in a bid to carry on the ‘famous legacy of corrupt free nation’.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Wandi has announced that the ACC will embark on sensitization-drive on electronic and print media to educate the members of the public and the political players on the importance of eradicating corruption in the country.

She observed cases of malpractice are becoming common before and during the presidential run-up by elections.

Zambia goes to the polls on October 30.

  1. This chap lost direction. He is a disgress to us the me a lozi and the Zambian people at large.Should each of us quit our jobs just to campaign for Banda? No need to say much he is a political failure

  2. This chap lost direction. He is a disgress to me a lozi boy and the Zambian people at large.Should each of us quit our jobs just to campaign for Banda? No need to say much he is a political failure.Viva Banda and make sure after elections dump these guyz.

  3. # 5, Aka is not resigning on moral grounds !! If that was the case, he should have resigned much earlier than this as he has always been MMD ! The issue here is Aka has either been promised a job/position or is seeking a job/position from RB ! What a loser !

  4. #6, I hear you. Shame on these un-cultured Zambian politicians.
(The forward hand) Ijanza, Zambia forward. The UPND’s HH. This race is not for TIMID SOULS or faint-hearted. Go and sleep/relax in bed if the race has worn you out or if you have nothing more to do on here. I am on National Duties here making sure that Hon. Sata does not get anywhere near Plot 1 after the 30/10/2008 elections.

  5. Aka deserves a job as an adviser to any sensible president. He can guide a leader very well but he cannot lead himself. He is a professional academic who can write about anything as long as there is interest in that school of thought. Don’t just blub about people you do not understand. MMD as an idea came from his team in the Zambia Research Foundation(ZRF) before thieves like Chiluba were invited and they hijacked the idea. Abash Chiluba and his thieving character – Abash Sata, Abash political opportunists, Abash, Abash!!!

  6. Zambian politics is at it worst.check people running the show,Aka,Mulongoti, chitala,vj,hh,rb,tenta, sata, chishimba etc.I think we can do better as a country,we have enough human resource. All these guyz put together failed just to run the university of zambia.Zambia needs a revolution.

  7. #7 HH will not get to state house tell him to keep his money otherwise he will end up li BY MWILA with his RP .He also thought he was popular today he is mp from presido of a party.Yours will be councilor.

  8. #8 Spot on.Aka is one of the few Zambian politcians who has resigned various lucrative and influential positions on morale grounds.
No one has ever accussed him of stealing nor practising illegal activities when in or outside the influential circles.
    Give the man credit.
Most people only admire you when you steal loads as you are then considered to be smart.
Where is Valentine Chitalu,Captain Chewe etc

  9. The good thing about Aka is that he’s got good reasons for resigning all the time, but the man can’t be trusted to lust till the end of the game HE IS A QUITER!

  10. I am tired of hearing this never-ending reference of maintaining a corrupt-free Zed ‘as Levy would have loved to have’. Don’t we have enuff balls as a people to champion this cause without blackmailing ourselves. Look here, me included, and a host of many Zeds don’t like corruption because we have seen what it can do to our country. This should be enuff impetus for all Zeds to fight it tooth and nail, like the Post have been doing all this years. LPM did his part, it remains for us to do the rest.

  11. Choma 1 says Zambian politics is at it worst. He says all people running the show, viz, Aka,Mulongoti, chitala,vj,hh,rb,tenta, sata, chishimba have all failed. Comrade Choma 1, can you suggest afew names we should start considering for the future. It may not be enough just to leave it at exposing the failures.

  12. #1 do you have any evidence that Aka is corrupt or is your vocabulary just limited?

#4 Speak for yourself. As a Lozi princess i am very very proud of Aka not because he is a fellow Lozi but for reasons stated by #8 amongst other reasons.

  13. Here we go again. Aka to resign once again. If you track his CV even from the time of the parastatal days, the man has never been successful at holding a real job. However, he is a very good theorist and thus the numerous degrees and books that he has attained and written. I wish him luck in his next endeavour and hopefully, no one will attempt to offer him a serious job like a Cabinet Minister because we need people who can do and not theorise the hardships of the people of Zambia. Direct translation, they say “you will not eat the degrees but if you put it to good use then it will produse food for you”. Similarly, an impressive CV will count for nothing if you can’t put it to practcle use.

  14. I was very shocked to hear AKA (on QFM) openly and shamelessly declaring political affiliation (to the MMD) and at the same time being a member of the ACC.
Princess (#16) AKA’s position then was serious conflict of interests which is known in some places as corruption or the door to corruption. I am happy that he has resigned and have no issues with him being offered a political job.

We should all as progressive Zambians (not only Lozis) be proud of AKA for advancing multi-party politics in Zambia, and I am sure Princess (or is it your highness?) that you understand that in a democracy all are equals. I will be happy to kiss your royal behind in your kingdom if you tell me where that is.

  15. Bo Aka muzamaye hande kuya kwaandu yabo RB kuyocha macheleni. Lwamiziba mina bo Aka. Reisgnation yamina kiyatala feela amusika mulupuma kuli kima principles. Ma principles yakakayi kakuli nemwiizi mwa MMD mazazi yafelille kono ACC act ibulela kuli mube non partisan. Bo Aka limbi nimina mujoinile “Sugar Daddy” club.

  16. Too much of anything is bad, Aka has done alot of things and he always seem to have greater brains, unfortunately he can not become a victor of his own professions to have leadership in himself. So he still remains uncertain, hence his followers have no direction too.
If he had stuck to his concept of multy-partism during the coming in of MMD into power this time around we would have seeing AKA as president, but the guy looses dirction coz he still wants to do so many things at once.

  17. Kachepa what is your problem.People have been posting comments in local languages on the blog and you did not complain, why are you complaining now. Limbi niwena ujoinile Sugar Daddy Club

  18. #20 you may be in US but you are still very dull to say the least. Zambia has 73 languages including the one Chris has used at #19. Who says only Bemba, Tonga and Nyanga are allowed on this site? TRIBALIST. If you do not comprehend what Chris is saying, skip it like i always do when i come across a language i fail to read and understand. PERIOD.

  19. What is wrong with Zambians, everytime there is an election all those who went to sleep resurface, AKA, VJ, Mbita all have come on board to comfuse RB, are they looking for employment?

  20. Ive for sometime followed this learned colleague who I find intelligent but quite interesting. Whichever move he makes is always a calculated step trying to get closer to the reigns of political power.
Everytime he can’t get there he wants to divide Zambia with his Barotse royal establishment treaty which I respect but is not expedient for our harmony. Greatness is not only exhibited in political office Aka, relax!

  21. Aka is a time waster, first he resigned from MMD to join National Party. After failing to win anything tangible he formed Agenda for Zambia with the sister Inonge, they lost elections not even winning a seat in parliament. Now he has gone broke begged for a position from levy, given commissioner for ACC.

Now he has been campaigning for RB full time as a civil servant. He should not be allowed to resign but fired. period no double standards. he has no morals not even bad ones.

  22. #26 your a liar these are not official bemba and nyanja are not official you are the problematic tribalists lets use english kwamana

  23. Knowing crazy aka if RB looses the elections, he shall try to re-invent the barotse issue. A dead issue, One zamkbia is One nation we wont have any more nonsense of a divided zambian talk. he is a chancer, a power hungry chap yet not sellable. we know economically he is doing badly. let him go fishing on the zambezi canoes are cheap.

RB should not surround himself with chancers, anyway it will make our work easier to boot him out of power.

    Viva sata

  24. THESE PEOPLE HAVE SEEN A GREAT DEAL OF WEAKNESSES IN RB.SMALL WONDER
THE PEOPLE ARE FLOCKING TO JUMP ON THE BAND WAGON ITS BECAUSE THEY
KNOW RB’S NO-STAND ON LEVY’S LEGACY.THE MAN HAS NO VISION OF HIS OWN
HENCE TRYING TO RIDE ON SOMEONE’S LEGACY. BARGAIN HUNTING USUALLY
DRAWS A CLOUD.AKA IS NO EXCEPTION.MORE ARE COMING FORTH TO DECLARE
    THEIR INTERESTS.
NOTE:if VJ can do it why not AKA.VJ was fired but now
he is back and in SOUTH AFRICA seeing the printing of
    ballot papers.

  26. Bo AKA, what a shame. How many times are you going to quit? I even wonder, how do you start in the first place? It seems you have the brains but lack foresight. So far as far as I know, there has NEVER been anything that you have engaged in and seen it through. Its always ending in you quiting. After the interview on Q-FM you should have actually been fired. Muno iketa ndate! Pupuli puli nya batama!

  27. #16 Princess(??????)London,if you a such a proud Lozi, y did you have a child by a bemba thief.muloyi muloyi only a tonga man can rule zambia

  28. RB should not even consider giving this quiter anything. Zambia should not be in the hands of such jokers. He keeps on quiting, I wonder if he has not even quit his marriage. He is not capable of keeping anything.

  29. Political oppourtunist who sees a job lurking ova the horizon and decides to abandon his job for RB. Poor Aka coz politics are nasty and there is no job security.lets see who gets bruised.did you see aka and nevers mumba dancing like vultures at the ukusefya pangwena ceremony to please RB on znbc?

  30. AKA is a quitter and shameless lier.He started campaining while a civil servant,he violeted the president’s trust and must be fired and not accept his lousy letter.

RB you are surely a marvel when it comes to rounding up thugs and losers

  31. I have changed my mind. AKA should not be given a job. He should come and join me chasing monkeys in the maize field. Sata can just stand at the other end of the field because the monkeys will flee when they see his face!!! RB can start digging for rats because we have run out of sugar.

  32. # 11, Capt Chewe is busy with his businesses after LPM thwarted his intention of being MMD Veep whilst Valentine Chitalu is also concentrating on his business empire. Most people are asking where HH took the money for the privatised companies on the CB and rest of Zed? HH was appointed Liquidator by the GRZ under FTJ and ZPA under Valentine Chitalu, so people should ask these two not HH. If HH got commission from both parties well n good coz that business sense. Aka has the brains quite alright but he’s not practical, let him put his act together otherwise will end up like VJ.

  33. At least PF only has one old, wise, visionary like sata- but look at MMD looks more like a geriatric home! Name them:sugar daddies, riggers, munkombwe, the now old Aka,iyee! Pabwatoooo!

  34. Whether he leaves or “YES”, Corruption and Crime have kept our nation’s development at the lower end . How many foreigners from COMESA (your own bone to shew) are in Zambia illigally, trading at will, armed, and getting NRCs, inspite of having ACC and Immigration Dept? Borders are porous!Watch dog institutions in Zambia plus the “new parastatals” which only regulate and do not produce anything – no industry, have really failed. Theses institutions are very costly to run and if some of these figure heads could be allowed to rest, we could save a lot. It is the blotted structures and huge allowances (K 500, 000 per member in meetings is now a norm in Government circles) which are a headache

  35. No. But Am Sure we are and I will keep my tribe hidden so that we can freely chat. I am involved in Crime Prevention, Research and surveillance Programmes (NGO)and my discoveries are shocking. We have done so badly in stemming “corruption” in Zambia as citizens. If u leave in Lusaka you will agree with me that the foreigners am refering to are a real threat. One of them, a criminal, an ex-soldier was gunned down by our ever vigilant police 3 weeks ago. They are also running minibuses business. With our eyes open, whether ACC, LCC, Immigration Dept or Citizen! Mark my words these guys are a threat, security and sovereignty of the State!

  36. No politics or tribal inclinationation, Aka is a non performer. He is in the same group with Sondashi, William Harrington and Chiluba. The only difference is that when Aka sees a problem he does not fight instead he resigns. Lozis are hard working people but Aka has been a disastor. Aka was one of a few consultants in Zambia when this consultancy business started but he cant even secure a contract. His competitors then like oliver Saasa are millionaires in US dollars but Aka does not even have a house. Aka used to have contracts to jobs for UN but not any more because he could not deliver. Let him just join the Sugar Daddy Club

  37. In Lozi we say “Mwan tau ki tau” but I do not think Aka can still claim that he is a tau. he appears to be a tau without foresight or direction.

  38. In Lozi we say “Mwana tau ki tau” but I do not think Aka can still claim that he is a tau. he appears to be a tau without foresight or direction.

  39. FTJ are money criminals while people like Aka are political criminals. Most people only think that you become corrupt when you steal money but we all know that corruption comes in different packages. Aka has always got into politics to advance tribal Lozi politics and tries to use his positions to bend the rules to achieve his tribal objectives. These are people that make many people fail to trust Lozi politicians because we all know what these old timers think. If I were RB I would stay clear of chaps like Aka. It is a shame that MMD and PF decided to pick old people as their candidates, when are we going to have a generational change in politics to get rid of separatists like AKA and group

  40. Between the two: Chiluba and Aka the tribalist is Chiluba. Chiluba brought tribalism to Zambia and it will take a good president to defuse this problem. Chiluba’s appointments not only to cabinat but other position in civil service left much to be desired. And those who were appointed did not help the situation as we kept hearing statements like “nifwebo baleteka”. These chaps (chiluba’s appointed tribesmen) would meet evry friday at Lusaka golf club to boost that they are in charge. This language spread to offices and bars. Chiluba really destroyed the country and the earlier the chap kicks the bucket the better.

  41. #74, dont forget that we are just from the ‘family tree’ era. So whoever comes into power will just replace the ‘nifwebo tuleteka’ with its equivalent in whatever language.

  42. #75 at least you I agree with me but I do not agree with you that all leaders will be like that. i think that a leader well prepared for the office who does not need friends or relatives to check on others will do well in at least minimising this problem. It is a problem which is really impairing people’s look at national issues.

  43. 80: give me your number sweetie.
The demise of President Mwanawasa brings Zambia’s economy back into the casualty ward. Zambia isin a national emergency. Our national economic take-off will soon be a figment of our collective imagination if we changed pilots mid-way during flight. Lets allow Rupono to continue. leave Aka alone.

  44. who is more tribal among the three Sata,Banda and Hichilema. Look at
there comments crticaly. Banda declared Eastern and no entry point
to people who do not come there , sata also for copperbelt, Lusaka,
Northern and Luapula Hichilema preaches that no voter should vote on tribal lines so who is more tribal. i think leave the young man he will be presido for zambiaby the end of our elections. Forward HH you are the man. These finished peaple are just scared for you

  45. #18 I wouldn’t want you to kiss my royal behind at all. There is Hep C these days I wouldn’t wanna catch it from you.

  46. Munungu wa hau #78 wautwa wena sikuba?

Tulengila nechi Lozi Mwaiche. Tina gwilika mushe mushe che, everything is kabotu kabotu.

  47. Sorry, all politicians behave the same and Aka is no different. He does not monopolise the trend that was created centuries ago. He is not the first and certainly won’t be the last to raise eyebrows whether in Zambia or elsewhere in the world. If you go to the US now, you will find a similar situation of crossing and counter crossing the political floor, all in the name of job seeking.
