Don’t be compromised, CPD urges trade unions

Share

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has urged trade unions in Zambia not to be compromised and neutralized by political parties even though they were pursuing similar workers’ interests.

CPD Executive Director Neo Simutanyi said although trade union members may belong to political parties, they should not be compromised in the runner up to the forthcoming presidential elections.

Dr. Simutanyi said trade unions should use their dialogue with political parties as a platform to give conditions on the interests of workers in the country.

He pointed out that trade unions should work together with political parties in pursuit of a common interest aimed at bettering people’s lives.

Dr. Simutanyi was speaking at Lusaka hotel today at the seminar on enhancing relations between trade unions and political parties.

And Resident Director for Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), Gerd Botterweck, said trade unions should be in constant dialogue with political parties for the betterment of the workers in the country.

Mr. Botterweck said trade unions should however be independent and united in order to avoid being hijacked by political parties.

The seminar was attended by members of trade unions, political parties and journalists.

  1. I know this man. His opinion polls are the most flawed i’ve ever seen. I’m a demographer and I know what am talking about. He cant even generate the standard error nor can he specify what kind of tests he was using. Never believe his opinion polls. If you dont believe me and you are home in Zed, just go to the UNZA, HSS, Demography Division; ask Dr. lemba, Dr. Kapungwe or Dr. Malungo on what goes on to have representative of the population opinion polls.

  2. I think Neo is referring to the fact that Hikaumba was the nameless MMD presidential MMD candidate. The workers will vote for who ever buys the most chibuku and Hikaumba is a compromised unprincipled misleader looking out for himself only.

  3. No, it was no less than that sell-out Leonard Hikaumba. Where exactly in NZ are you? God willing be joining you June next year.

  4. Let the Dr. do his part. We need the opinion polls soon.Mind you, voting is strictly confidential.Sata, HH, or who ever, we know the right candidate.
