Fuel price reduced

Share

The pump price of petrol has been reduced by almost K2-thousand per litre in all provincial centres.

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) says the new pump price of petrol is now seven thousand six hundred and 91 Kwacha for Lusaka.

This represents a reduction of one thousand 956 Kwacha per litre of petrol which is currently selling at nine thousand 647 Kwacha per litre.

The pump price of diesel reduced by an average of one thousand and 91 Kwacha in all the provincial centres.

In Lusaka, diesel will now be selling at seven thousand 264 kwacha per litre from the previous eight thousand 355 Kwacha per litre.

Kerosene has also been reduced by 852 kwacha per litre while no price changes have been effected for Jet A one and heavy fuels.

ERB Chairperson, Sikota Wina announced the new prices at a press briefing in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, Tuesday.

He said the new prices follows government intention to cushion consumers against rising fuel prices by reducing excise duty on petrol from 45 percent to 36 percent.

  1. This is just a political move. We shall see how sustainable this reduction is and i hope RB will compel the reduction of transport and other fuel related costs

  2. Am just from the filling station the prices have not gone down. Why is it that when the adjustment is upwards these guys dont give a damn about aold stocks. They just go on and effect the increases but when its downward adjustment, my foot, you gonna keep begging for them to effect them.

When are these reductions effective as in EFFECTIVE???

  3. # 3 No way, I totally agree with you. Its a political gimmick which will go upto election period. Lets see how they will support it. Besides, how have they managed to reduce the price by such a huge margin?

  4. Fuel is still K9600 as at 11Hrs Zedian time. Tababwesesheko fyabufi. Nganababwesha ngataili so .

I just bought it at K9600 a few minutes ago.

  5. The oil prices on international mkt has been reduced .Hence GRZ has no opotion but to reduce . VIVA SATA VIVA PF NIPABWATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. I wont buy any gas till its come down by the 2pin.the reduction in fuel prices isnt RB’s doing. its been long overdue as the world fuel prices dropped by over$50 some 2 months ago.zambians wont fall for this if its gonna be politicized!!!!

  7. this is a campaign strategy just like not signing the bill for salary increments and mealie meal reduction by 2pin. RB shame on you.

  8. The reduction is long overdue considering that OPEC increased production many weeks ago and basically feel that it can go down more than this, although the timing of the reduction is questionable. I basically want this to effect of fuel price reduction reach the non-driving citizen thru the reduction in transport fares and commodities (good and services).
    THANX BA RB.

  9. 120 dolla per burl at the international mkt. What maths is RB useing? reduction of fuel good, but all this for a vote forget rb. thank you

  10. All this is campaign gimmicks. Portraying RB to be a man of action.

    UNZA to reopen
    Gasoline reduced
    Sugar coat Ku mawa
    Delay salary increments
    Lose weight and face lift

  11. RB and his campaign team are soooo desperate and trying to implement in weeks what they have failed to do in the past 7 years, but its not going to work this time. RB you’re the weakest link! Goodbye!!!

  12. In reducing fuel pump price by 2pin are we now saying that we are on the same footing with our neighbours in the region whose cost of fuel is far lower? If the answer is NO then the essence of what RB said when he issued instructions to the Minister of Finance is all defeated. Dont take us for granted.

  13. RB mwaume. All those who belive its a campaign gimmick, start protesting by just boycotting the new prices. Chwechwechwe, chwechwechwechwe, chweechweechwee, pankoloko amilasa bonse mwebale twishika. Pankoloko, pankoloko, pankoloko, pankoloko. Bauze mbuya.

  14. well what about after elections, what then? Thanks anywaz but we will see if bus fares will go down, and the effect on all items, foodstuffs and all. What about Power cuts, any incentive?

  15. people of my land Zambia….listen to the voice of the wise! watever he gives you receive with both hands but dont give him a vote…He who gives when he needs help will never care when he gets wat he wants.

  16. I wish we had elections every year, it will really be nice. Salary bills will not be signed, Unza will always be open, fuel will be cheap, my grandmother will have sugar from the sugar daddy and fertilizer will be distributed early.

  17. Does it have to take elections for an african leader to make a decision such as this one. It’s not sustainable no wonder bus fares will not be reduced. RB just doesn’t do it for me the guy has no vision for mother Zambia. His outside coverage area with politics will depend on hearsay… that is to say the SATAs and HH are against. RB will be acting as they say… VIVA opposition VIVA!! make them work. Why did the same government allow fuel to go to this level $3 a litre. $2 is still too high…

  18. How I wish the average voter could think like most of us on this site!! It would be game-over before kick-off!
Constitution should ban the misuse of tax payers’ bucks to fund political campaigns for the ruling party.
    Vote wisely fellow country wo/men!!

  19. Reducing bus fares – most of the minibuses are controlled and owned by PF supporters. Lets see if they are willing to reduce after RB has given them a relief.
    # 35 walasa. Pankolokoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…….

  20. No mata how many street call boys where there yestaday parading for the old man called mr sata he still wont make it to the state house he l remain the president (owner) of pf and not zambia.honestly i wonder what sense some people see in this man who’s not different from a cadre to make him a president.dont cheat him by gathering in large numbers at the court you just betraying him and he’s busy enjoying local audience where you already know him instead of where he’s not known.help him have a great5 fall.viva RB CHWECHWE!!!!!

  21. Political gimmick no doubt.Too many ‘positive’ things have happened in so short a time, but lets not forget the negatives:no more live phone in programmes on radio coz listeners are giving a hard time to members of RB’s campaign team.what next?no more blogging? We’ll see what the price of fuel will be at year end. I’ll enjoy it for now, 3litres of gas in 20pin aint so bad but i wont vote for you!

  22. While the reduction of Fuel price is welcomed by all ,But the questions remain the same .How is the govt going to cover the deficit from the reduction of fuel tax?? the laws of economy still stand the same .We are now going towards election period. Is the reduction of petrol a genuine by two thousand kwacha ???? Why not reduces the diesel by two thousand?? All companies in Zambia will appreciate if diesel goes down which will mean the cost of production will be low, which will mean the cost of goods will come down.explain this to us ??is it a political move or not please can any one help me to understand this???

  23. we need an explanation as to what effects this price decrease will have on the budget. whats behinds all this. what criteria have they used to to reduce the prices today when they ve been quiet all this long. anyway whatever happens we jst hope that the lives of people will change for ther better.Amen

  24. stil more ni pa bwato,we know all this tricks they have happend before.thanks any way but we wont vote for you.VIVA SATA VIVA PF

  25. This is a political move which even my two year old daughter can explain. Why reducing fuel when we are approaching elections? Tell people how you will reduce TAX. RB namukota

  26. Has someone been to Manda Hill and Arcades to check what the prices are today at the BP station???? Like to know before I go for nothing. Why this move to reduce prices now???? I think it is because it is erection time – sorry, I meant election time.

  27. #40,i wonder wat u’ve seen in RB & MMD for u 2say sata wont make it to plot 1….n’way,i’l respect yo decision to vote for MMD,but to tell u the truth,we need ‘change’ & the only person to bring that change as at now is sata.rite now as we are toking civil servants are in poverty, especially police officers and u think like that u can fight the so called corruption????
Even tho they hav reduced the fuel cost,we all know that its political coz its sumthing that was supposed to be effected a long tym ago…

  28. RB , cheap politics so you did not realise all this time that the fuel price was too high! Mind you most zambians are now politically mature, even if you reduced it by K5,000 we shall not vote for you. Your voters in rural areas dont’ even use fuel, so for them to benefite you should reduce essential commodities immideatly as well. We are waiting and we only have a few weeks to go!!

  29. No. 51 are you dreaming? ‘A well deserved move and a sign that there is progressive leadership’. You are telling me you are too blind to read between the lines that the reduction in fuel is meant to buy your vote? If you ask your self,Oil prices on the world market were slashed more than a month ago from $140 a barrel to less than $100 a barrel and why has it taken this long to reduce in Zambia. The timing is highly suspicious. Watch out for people who are there to offer things that won’t last.

  30. Ba RB, this won’t work either, continue giving ama sugar kumushi kumwenu kuma petauke, chipata napamushi pa chikamba.

    VIVA PA BWATO!!

  31. Even when they have reduced fuel price, even when i receive a 2kg porket of sugar and a bag of M/mil from RB i will still vote 4 HH, coz i know what these people are up to, where were they all along for them to reduce it now. it’s rubish!

  32. Let the bus fares be reduced as well immediately. It’s really a joke to think that sata lead this country coz him and Mugabe are just the same, they have the same duty polices.

  33. #56 We can still get it from Angola that would cost and besides it less than $100 per barrel that reduction in price is not reflected at the pumps??.Oil should also be sold in other currencies not just the dollar that would protect as poor nations.

  34. The price is still high, They need to reduce it further to the regional average of K4500. All the same guys lets influence the people we help with finances to vote for SATA

  35. The real price of oil should be around $40-50/ barrel, it is the financial markets that are turning to oil speculation in the face of the weak dollar and the crisis caused by the US housing crash.

  36. Not only fuel and bus fares are too high. Go to the supermarkets and see for yourself what the people of Zambia are paying for their daily lives. I do not remember another country with elevated prices like this. Even people who are not poor, like 80% of the population here, feel the pinch. What are the 80% of the poor people living on?? Ask yourself that question next time you see the outrages prices in the Supermarkets. Why was it now all of a sudden so easy and quick to reduce the fuel prices by 2000 kwacha? Amazing. Maybe because the people of Zambia finally realised that they were paying more than anyone else in Africa. So keep on pressuring for lower bus fares, etc.

  37. the price can still go down. 2pin is still nothing considering the regoinal prices.. as if we do not have a refinery in the country!!!

  38. RB you have done well to reduce the price of fuel but it should be
sustained and direct the bus fares to be reduced. Come November 1,
and see how the cobra’s head would be crashed for the last time
since he would be to old to stand in 2011 elections and he should
not be deceived by the crowds in Lusaka and Kitwe. Vote RB.

  39. #65, one short former president dismantled our manufacturing base, and then allowed his business partners to flood the country with cheaper foreign goods. What we have is a monopoly of the market in Zambia, thus the high prices.

  40. #71, I agree with you. The high prices are also a result of the monopolistic structures of the markets. You need more competition both from local and foreign producers.

  41. Zambians why? when we had a crisis we looked up to God in prayer, all leadership is ordained of God, why dont we lookup to him yet one more time in unity for Him to give us another leader? Fuel reduction or not, God is able to give us a Good Leader. Lets vote wisely.

  42. What a joke!!! The prices have not been reduced from midnight last night as was ordered Sikota Wina. Still waiting for a change on the pump. Why is it taking so long if the oil marketing companies have agreed to the date and time and have given the orders. Why play for time? And why does an order by the CEO take 2 days to be followed? Now they say by tomorrow evening 6 pm the prices will be down. Who is playing for time here? Would it take also 2 days to enforce a raise in pump prices?
