Govt urges farmers to start buying subsidised fertilizer

Share

Government has called on farmers in the country to start buying the subsided fertilizer for this year’s farming season.

Eastern Province Minister Charles Shawa says fertilizer inputs are already at the Boma being sold at the subsided of price of 75 percent .

Mr. Shawa was speaking when he officiated at this year’s Mbambala Traditional Ceremony of Nsenga-Luzi people of Chief Mburuma in Luangwa district.

He said government has put agriculture as the main stare of the economy adding that it will do everything possible to ensure that farming inputs are delivered on time.

Mr. Shawa who is also Feira Member of Parliament said government through the Disaster Management and Mitigation programme had so far distributed a total of 5000 x 50kg bags of relief maize in the district.

He said the measure is aimed at mitigating the hunger situation currently prevailing in the Chiefdom following the last season’s torrential rainfall, prolonged drought spell and animal devastation of crops.

And Mr. Shawa said government will continue to nurture and cherish traditional ceremonies because of their unifying factor and non-partisan nature.

The Minister said the traditional ceremonies are held for the benefit of the children, youths and visitors to assimilate traditional values.

At the same function, Chief Mburuma in a speech read on his behalf by Nsenga-Luzi Chairperson Thomson Lungu said the Mbambala ceremony is used to pray to the Almighty God through their ancestors to give them enough rain and good harvest.

He said the ceremony also helps the Nsenga-Luzi People to remember their successes attained in wars fought with other people and venture achieved during migration up to the time of settlement.

  1. Due to lack of planning and bad faith Zambians might not benefit from the subsized fertilizers. What will see is fertilizers being exported to other countries for resale and after elections see zambians again importing the fertilizers. If govt was serious they could have revamped the NCZ or atleast given us an explanation.

  2. No. 2: I agree with you.
No. 1: Please show some seriousness by discussing something sensible. If you have nothing to say keep shut.

  3. RB knows he will be voted out on 30th october so he has reduced fertilizer so that he can buy enough for his farm were he is going after 30th october.Good planning ba nyama soya.

Vote for H H he will not give out fertilizer for free, but increase the production and rebuild NCZ

  5. STOP SAYING ITS POLITICAL IF YOU HAVE HALF A BRAIN YOU CAN ALSO GAIN FROM THIS BUT IF THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO HELP GROW OUR ECONOMY I DONT SEE WHY ITS A PROBLEM. fOOD PRICES ARE GOING UP THE MORE YOU PRODUCE THE MORE YOU GAIN SO SIMPLE MATHEMATICS INPUTS HAVE TO COST LESS FOR YOU TO GAIN AS A NATION OR SHOULD WE WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTION, SORRY BUT THE WORLD ECONOMY DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY.
WHAT I DONT UNDERSTAND IS THAT WE CALL FOR SUCH DECISIONS FROM THOSE IN POWER BUT WHEN THEY ARE MADE NINSHI ELO LWANYA WHY NOT WAIT AND SEE THE OUT COME. PROBLEM WITH US ZAMBIAS WE HATE TO SEE OTHERS DO WELL. hOW DO YOU VOTE FOR SOMEONE ATI NAIMWE MULYEKO AND WHEN THEY DO JUST THAT U COMPLAIN .

  11. Zambians are careful this time. RB thinks he can buy them with that fertilizer deal, this won’t last. Zambians are looking for a long lasting solution which Sata or H.H would offer. RB is cheap as he thinks the some way the late president won the rural votes will repeat itself. NEVER AGAIN, IT IS TIME UP FOR MMD.

  12. TO ALL THE FARMERS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE REDUCTION ON FERTILIZER AND BUY IN BULK COZ THIS IS CHEAP POLITICS BY AKULU MPHUNO.BUT KNOW WHERE TO VOTE,COZ THIS REDUCTION IS NOT REALISTIC,WHEN OUR LOVEBLE PRESDO LMP HE INCREASED FERTILIZER FROM 50PIN TO 200PIN BUT NOW WE HAVE RB A GOOD ACCOUNTANT WHO CAN PRODUCE ONE BAG AT 200PIN AND SELLS IT AT 50PIN,I NOW REALISE WHY HE FAILED NAMBOARD.

  14. Just called my father, he tells me there is no fertiliser! SO this gimmick of 75% fertiliser reduction may not work! LELO LEO! PA BWATO

  15. people of the republic of zambia should not be allowing cheap politics going around by accepting subsidesed stuff, these politians are just making things seem possible because elections are near now, but then things seemed impossible…so think twice zambians before selling your selfs in another 4 yrs of poverty…

  16. Who says fertilizer is the only farming input? Govt’s plan for an agricultural based economy should go beyond cheap politicking.

  17. Where has this fertilizer come from? This is only an election gimmick to woo support for RB. How many ppl will access it? Why is it only in eastern province? Ba RB we are not children to be cheated with sweets. Have respect for the rural voter!!!

  18. You guys the fertiliser that is selling for 50 pin is the fertiliser under the fertiliser support pogramme and not the fertiliser in shops.Go to a shop and see if u can get a 50kg for 50 pin. This was in the budget and has nothing to do with RB even if LPM was alive it would still be 50 pin.Jst wanted to clarify this point as most people out there think that it is all the fertiliser that is going for 50 pin.

  19. which shop has fertilizer you guys???there’s nothing on the market!!this is absolute insults to our farmers!!vote wisely!!!VIVA HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  20. I thought farmers were business people, and they would rush for 75% price reductions seeing that the rains are nearly here. Do they need Govt to tell them to go and buy? Something is not right here. Could it be that the farmers are so poor that they can’t afford even the K50pin bags. May be the fertilizer is not there at all, you can’t buy what is not there. May be, may be, may be… I just don’t know what is going on

  21. RB go and cheat your little wife about fert. Where is the fert u are cheating us? U wont win the election unless u rig with vj.

  22. “Peter asked Vice-President Banda to forgive all those who voted against him”. Why the word ‘FORGIVE’? Not everyone can vote for one candidate. If no people are opposing you, the know there is something wrong with you or the system or both. Please, read the post about the divisions in MMD.
