Dont delay cases, Justice Sakala

Share

Chief Justice, Ernest Sakala, has called on Magistrates to ensure cases are disposed off quickly so that justice is not delayed.

Justice Sakala notes that unnecessary adjournments may lead to unfair trial and denial of justice.

He says the Judiciary must strive to inspire Public confidence in the delivery of justice

The chief Justice says this is because democracy depends on the delivery of Justice and the rule of Law.

Justice Sakala was speaking in Lusaka at the official opening of a one day workshop for Lusaka based Magistrates.

The Chief Justice also emphasised the need for adjudicators to acquire more knowledge as they administer justice.

Justice Sakala said some cases have taken several years to be disposed off and this has become a great concern.

  1. adjourning cases encourages or creates room for corruption, why should it take 7 yrs to convict KATELE when all investigations were completed. Now that he is govt he will getaway with it

  2. Katele, FTJ and other useless criminals who have plunged this nation in a mess should be quickly presecuted and judged so that we forget about them…

  3. We are not GULLIBLE bwana Chief Justice. We know how easy it is to secure a conviction in Zambia if the Plot One Occupant (President) says so. You are a boring and uninspiring Public Office bearer. Actually, watching or hearing you speak is like watching paint dry. ITS BORING! How I wish we had people in offices like yours that will inspire confidence in faces of the down trodden members of the society. But alas, in Zambia its only those with XXL pants-FAT CATS-that see justice as for the rest its GOD HELP US!!!! and GOD HELP US indeed because our country is slowly creeping into a shell of lawlessness that is disguised in democracy amidst state sanctioned intimidation of divergent views.

  4. Spectator it should also be put in black and white in the constitution that politians with a record of multipractice be it corruption, drugs, abuse of office should not be apointed for higher office, talema nabo mwe

  8. The CJ is very right. Ka Chiluba has been evading issues on technicalities. Please nail the ka man down and let us start working hard. RB, quiet diplomacy but let the key officers dicharge their responsibilities. Someone will probably dance ndendeule very soon and I hope that is Chiluba and Katele. The crooks have had it too easy for anyone’s likiing. Natola fye everywher from childwood. its too much, Lock the up.

  11. Viagra Addict, if you do not want your staff to be deleted, write it in reverse order and inform us and we shall read it from the anus to the mouth instead of the other way round. All the same, behave.

  12. Mr chief justice.Dont just talk the talk. After addressing your magistrates then what? Are you going to impliment some policy to ensure that court cases are dealt with in time?

  13. I think this man is the actual deterant to jutice. His title speaks of Chief Justice but his deeds are unjust. Can he himself being the top man in the law hierarchy tell us the justfication of some well known cases taking 7 years going back and fro? Meanwhile his juniors are trickling with mulla while the general populace is maulesi. Justice in Zambia is equivalent to the piece of paper with and EAGLE and some serial number. Sometime ago this paper bore the head of one person believed to be stateless at one point.

  14. Miyanda has the best experience where Justice is concerned. Petitions are the talk of the day and one petition may last atleast 5 years and all Miyanda has to say now is that ELECTIONS WERE FREE AND FAIR, reason, the presidential petition he did taught him one thing, Justice is not for the POOR.
Ask Richard Sakala, who was working with FTJ, he is in doti while FTJ goes to SA for his heart.

  15. our system can change but few incentives for those within the judiciary. as a family we lived near a judge in Zed and he looked corrupt from the cases that he pushed fast in court while the poor chaps from misisi were lotting in cells but the roma and kabs boys had their case dealt with fast

  16. The sitation is pathetic in zambia. There is obvious evidence of moral decay across all departments and the courts are not an excepetion.Chilubas case is still unresolved,Exam Leakages in education, lands ministry is corrupt throu and throu. It is a mirror of the people we have in power. Please bring back sanity into the country-SHAMEFUL

  17. The Chief Justice should have lamped all courts together and asked them to pull up their soaks. There are cases which started in 1998 still in going backward and forward because of political pronouncements and due to the incompetence of Judges. The Judicially has a long way to go Zambia. To start with the courts buildings need a make over or tiding up.

Aawa mwabandika nobapatipati. I hope this has fallen on open ears. Let us beging to do things like Zimbabwe which is highly in trouble economically and financially but is doing well in the court cases of all sorts in terms of expeditious handling of all of them.

  19. Yep, technology came in and the Kid’s Menu was chengad forever. If it isn’t the most realistic maze game out there and related to criminality or violence, kids these days just aren’t interested. (Get your chicken nuggets now, kiddos! muwahaha)
