Save the Child and you save the Nation

Share

Government says economic hardships coupled with unclean environment are among the causes that contribute to high disease prevalence among children in the country.

Central Province Permanent Secretary, Danny Lumbama, said government is concerned with the serious threat that diseases in infants have to national economic development, hence its tireless efforts in the provision of health services targeting under five children at health centers across the country.

He was speaking at the launch of the Child Health Week campaign in Kabwe today.

He government through child health week, campaigns have managed to scale down infant mortality rate and improved the health of children in the country.

Mr  Lumbama, however, indicated that government has implemented various strategies in collaboration with partners to ensure the continued survival of the Zambian child.

Speaking, earlier Acting District Director of health, Beatrice Kafulubiti, noted that child health week is a very important week for all children.

Dr Kafulubiti said during child health week, children under the age of five, will receive deworming medication, Vitamin A supplementation and have the growth monitored.

She explained that children from the age of Six months to 59 months will be given Vitamin A supplements and those from 12 months to 59 months will be given De-worming medication

  1. In the mean time busy increasing salaries for themselves. Those beds I see in the back ground have been done away with in developed nations.

  2. “indicated that government has implemented various strategies in collaboration with partners to ensure the continued survival of the Zambian child”
These guys are so vague in their statements. Why don’t they specify the strategies that have been put in place, so we can know and make see if there is any developments?
Does anyone know here what strategies have been put in place by the govt to help reduce child mortality rate, reduce transmission of HIV fro mother to child? What type of food supplementation is provided for free by the govt for the starving chidren?

  3. Batata nothing is given free in Zed. If there is anything free then it means it`s coming from the western worlds but even then it doesn`t reach it`s target. Ba minister ninshi nabasenda!

  4. Am happy Given Lubinda did not for the Salary increaments. He was out of the Country.I was going to be very disappointed if he had done that.Viva PF

  5. Am happy,Given Lubinda did not vote for the saraly increaments. He was out of the Country. If he had done i would have been disappointed.ViVa Lubinda,ViVa Sata Viva PF.

  6. #8 Chewe, Ba Sata and ba half muntu Lubinda will never rule Zambia. It looks like people don’t understand governance. First of all, PABWATOO is a misplaced slogan that is only relevant to dagga smokers. You cannot talk about river water transport in Zambia. Adopt a theme that makes developmental sense to the Country. For example, our famous slogan – the Hour has come- made sense at the time. The new deal was a revival of the dented Chiluba image and so on and so forth. Pabwatoo, what nonsense is this? Think and think. You will always be crying foul. No matter how much beer you buy SATA will never win the presidency in Zambia!!!

  7. “Government says economic hardships coupled with unclean environment are among the causes that contribute to high disease prevalence among children in the country.”

True and so give our fellow Citizen water so that they can clean up themselves and their surrounds instead of the erratic supply that is currently obtaining in all places in Zambia.

  8. Govt bra braa. Govt has said this! Please give us a break and act on these problems. When are you gonna learn? do you need a 1000 years to solve this?

  9. I think we need more of these stories and pictures so that we don’t forget that there are alot of people suffering out there. This will make us hold our government accountable, instead of just seeing the pictures on foreign tv’s and we start arguing with them that they are misrepresenting our country because the situations do not look real to us, but when brought up by Zambians, they will mean alot and we will combine our efforts to deal with the root cause of the problem which is incompetency, by the way Zambia is a very rich country resource wise.

  10. #12. New Zambia, I totally agree with you.

Zambia is very very very rich in everything including human resource, but the current Constitution has been a hurdle towards making meaningful progress since it allows undereducated and semi-illiterates to manipulate the whole Nation.

I hope President RB Banda and his Veep for our country Minister G. Kunda will make sure that the new Constitution through the NCC will include minimum educational qualifications for people seeking to be Zambian President and MP of constituencies, say Masters Degree though previously I used to recommend Grade 12 School Certificate.

  11. # 13 if we leave it to the President and veep to decide on the new constitution it will never be done what we need is a strong voice from the citizens to demand those changes, until we understand that we are the ones who have the power to change the constitution and come up with practical steps and solutions i tell you it will be very challenging to acheive.

  12. #14. New Zambia, I do understand your concern and points my fellow Citizen. The sad part is that a person like me is too far from home and committed to my own stuff at the moment to cause a positive mindset in many of my fellow country-men and -women especially those at home. This is why I have been thinking of coming up with an Objective Newspaper Company in Zambia and Mobile Education Platforms to reach all Zambians who matter and reason with them over their rights and how to do stuff for us to bring in REAL CHANGE to our great Nation in 2011.I hope somehow I will make it.The task is mammoth and requires time and being present at the spots of activity. We will see how the good Lord ‘ll help.

  13. # 9 Bause UNZA You ar mixing stories, there is no mentioning of Mr Sata in a story above for you to comment on Sata and his boat.
    comment on a story.

  14. #3 I quote you, “Those beds I see in the back ground have been done away with in developed nations”.

Its not only in developed countries where you can’t find such beds. Go to Botswana and Namibia. Fact is Zambian political leaders are morally bankrupt. The new govt found it priority to increase their salaries rather than start dealing with general poverty in Zambia. But, what do you expect from a chap who uses ambulances to beautify his face to ignore the needy?

  15. #15 that is noble venture go for it. If we all did something we would make Zambia a better place. Let’s set a a challenge for all of us to come up with practical solutions and implement them, blogging is good and it’s a right step towards the goal of making a better Zambia but we also need to do something practical. let us not lose hope because of distance whatever practical solutions we can come up with whether within Zambia or from outside Zambia will make a difference.

  16. LORD have mercy on our beloved Nation. These precious souls have a whole lot of dreams to realize. If only our Leaders can embrace a selfless attitude, a passion for this young generation, the people will catch the vision and run with it. We need progress and we need it now! Remember, remember us LORD. NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND!

  17. Morning everyone, you people on this blog, you have to be carfull with Maestro Hhehehehe.Dont read or respond to his comments, he has no heart for Zambia.

  18. There is no political ‘ll among our leaders becoz they poor how can u provide m meal 2 yr friend when u dont hve enough yrself ? We like puting poor pipo in power and da result is what u a seeing.

  19. 44 years down the line and our children are still starving and suffering from diseases of poverty. The rural people have just ensured a perpetuation of corruption and kleptocracy by voting for the dynamic, kwacha grabbing RB. UNIP is back in all but name to continue plundering the country even further. What chance has Zambia got?

  20. Lubinda should not be praised for not signing in support of salary increments. The man was away and is regreting. Guy Scott appended his.PF are just money hunters no wonder their Boat keeps on sinking each time they try to cross the shallowest stream. They never learn these people.

  21. I do not understand what motivates some of us to make comments. I state because some of us opt to be out of the topic: “save the Child and you save the Nation.” What do people think about this heading! The heading sounds true to me but practically speaking mortality rate among zambian children is still high…due to hunger and diseases!!! some of the mothers give birth without medical assistants and so die

  23. My fellow citizens, the level of poverty in the rural areas (not that the urban is that far ahead) is absulotely criminal especially for a country that has not known war since its 44yrs of self-rule. Our fellow brothers and sisters are on refugee status in terms quality of life…infant mortality is on genocidal level and all we keep on hearing is health plan this, that and everything else in between. Time has come to bring REAL development to the rural by improving water accessibility, developing sanitation systems, rural power supply and road networks. These are cardinal and key to opening up the rural for future private investment. The onus for all this lies with government and we need

  24. #27 contd…to see concrete steps taken by this government in meeting this challenge. We need a very ambitious plan to create quantum-leap scale of development….If it means going in partnerships with countries like China, Japan, India and some western ones as well, where we agree developmental programmes all around the country to put up roads, railways, schools, hospitals, colleges, hydropower plants & lines, phone lines, optic cable lines, etc and calculate the cost of all this and agree payment for all this via exchange with our natural rescources such as copper, cobalt, gold, coal until the entire debt is paid off. Any thoughts out there?

  25. Zambians are very useleess people trhus why youwill continue suffering cause us the foregners behave as if its our country cause we enjoy everything and live good live as compared to you the owners of Zambia. Youare very good people but dull.

  26. There is absolutely no need for you to waste your time #21. Chewe and also another censored name ‘Kangwa’ to focus on me for you are playing a losing battle. In Bemba, they say ‘wasnage ndeteya’.

I will continue offering expert and object free advice to Zambia and Zambians.

    Have a great day.

  27. Ba Zed, if you really love your children protect them from False Prophets from , who are kin on making money by accusing innocent vulnerable children in poor families as witches! Please Zambians get informed about this scum and warn your families, friends and fellow citizens of this evil.. find out more about “africa’s child witches” videos and more information online!!!

  28. We should always try to work hard to improve the welfare of our children as they are the future leaders of Zed. For our country to develop we should invest in the education and healthy sector of our country. There is no way we can develop if part our population don´t have access to free education and healthy care.

I wish our leaders will start thinking about the people not their bellies.

  29. You should never help somebody out of pity, or to get Brownie points in heaven,You should genuinely find joy in making somebody else’s life better.’

  30. The Govt should introduce a salary for all the mothers living under the poverty detum line. The PS here is not well informed, when his children eat well in his home he thinks its all the children.People leaving in Lusaka shanty compounds are starving more than those leaving in the villages. These vitamins and suppliments being given to our children from the western community are meant to wipe then out before they grow.the best is to improve the lives of the common Zambian esp the poor. Then we shall be assured of a better Zambia tomorrow.

  31. Chew why do you hate maestro, focus on issues. you won’t stop him from posting, will you? People of your calibre are the ones that promote hatred in the world. be accommodating. Zambia is a big country.
