Solwezi school project delayed

Edited

The K24 billion project to construct a girls technical high school in Solwezi has failed to take off.

Solwezi East member of parliament, Richard Taima says the contractor has not started working on the project despite receiving the initial 10 percent down payment.

Mr. Taima who is also commerce deputy minister said his office is following up the matter with the Ministry of education to address the delay in the project.

He said government has already set aside sufficient funds for the school project.

Government earlier this year released some money for the construction of Mushindano girls technical school in Solwezi.

The constractor was supposed to have started working on the project seven months ago but has not yet done so.

  1. #1 is that all you can say? Had you been a lady, I would have advised you to enroll at the Solwezi school once copleted.

Now back to the issue at hand, we’ve seen this kind of thing too all often – contractors receiving money but not delivering or if they do, they produce shoddy stuff. Some of these guys who win tenders don’t even have an established firm. Its when they receive the money that they begin to scout for labour and equipment. Could coruption be involved here?

  2. Analysing the verbs of this article per line:

“has failed”, “says”, “said”, “said”, “released”, “supposed”, “says”, “said”, “said”, “noted”, “said”, “noted”, “emphasized”, “noted”, “said”, “said”, “noted”, “was confer”

So nothing happened really except people said and noted. That’s why being nambala wanu is more interesting

  3. What do you expect when tenders are given on condition of kick backs, or family lines? Contracts should be given on merit and not just because someone knows somebody or is related to some family tree. What the people of Solwezi are supposed to do is sue their MP in his personal capacity for not following up on such issues. Let the MP answer why the project hasn’t been done instead of wasting time signing his salary increments.

  4. country men and women..obama live on CNN BBC etc (not ZNBC) UNVEILING his economic team. The guy is a lawyer but i like the way he is articulating issues. He has appointed or rather nominated an outstanding team of experts….how i wish we had a president like that…..well in ZED never to be for many years to come…what a SHAME!!!!!!!

  5. Ha ha ha!
Did the contractor chew the money.
Mr Taima just tell us that you split the money with the contractor.
Let govt probe this guy will soon cough up what he did with the money and why it has taken too long.
Knowing our govt it can take ten years to get the truth.
    Just Rubbish!

  6. ‘The K24 billion project to construct a girls technical high school in Solwezi has failed to take off.

Did you see the contractor’s Work Breakdown Sheet, Gantt Chart and Cash Flow Statement. Why is the contractor not on schedule?

However, it is interesting to read of a girls’ Technical School not only in Solwezi but in my country. This is good progress, but let the contractor do his job or revoke the contract through the law and give it to a serious one.

  7. Remember this was a hot issue during elections and believe me, we will be in 2011 and nothing will be done. The people of Solwezi are sleepy coz if they were jacked up, they shud have read thru the lines that MMD doesnt mean well in Northwestern province let alone Lumwana and other small private mines digging diamonds and emerals.
Ask Mr Mulando Jestone, he will tell you that most of the projects in his province (NWP) are far from finishing and most of them far from taking off. Recently he talked about the road which has not been done coz money which was given suddenly disappeared and he is waiting for another chunk, probably around 2010 to be used as a bait for 2011 elections. wake up!!!

  8. Who was supposed to supervise the contractor so Taima as an area MP was supposed to follow the issue. Why should he cheat when he is visiting his area. In short he shared the money at the expense of the community

  9. Is this the best this useless minister can tell the nation? People really get away with murder in Zambia. If that is the current situation, so what? What is he or his government doing about it? Tell the nation sensible stuff not this hogwash. What kind of MP let alone Minister is this thing called Taima?

  10. Sony Ericsson, your verb analysis is really more interesting than the story at hand. I wish I could conratulate you in Latin for being numero uno, all I can say is Laudatio si, omi o signore!
