There is need to revamp Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia, Bishop Mambo

Share

Chikondi Foundation President, Bishop John Mambo has called on government to device an effective mechanism of revamping the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) by pumping in more money into the production of fertilizer and other commodities.

He said there was need to revamp the NCZ in order to address the various challenges of the high prices of fertilizer.

Bishop Mambo further urged government to increase beneficiaries of the Fertilizer Support Programme (FSP) from the current 200, 000 to 500,000 with a view to enhancing food security in the country.

He implored government to further subsidise the farming inputs, saying the move will help the country to address many challenges of the global financial crisis.

Bishop Mambo has since challenged government to position Zambia as the world’s leading sustainable agriculture producer which could only be achieved through government and the public private sector cooperation.

Bishop Mambo has also called on government to implement the irrigation fund facility which was launched last year by the late President Levy Mwanawasa.

Bishop Mambo said that if the irrigation fund facility was implemented, it would play an important role of promoting food security and alleviating hunger and poverty in the country.

He observed that the move to implement the irrigation fund facility would also enable farmers to avoid depending on seasonal rains to grow their food but it would also encourage them to grow winter foods.

  1. Yaba…I give up. FMC you got the title today. What’s all this talk from Bishop Mambo? Is he aspiring for presidency?

  2. For how long are we going to sing this song of revamping NCZ?Time westers always make news out of the giant industry. The critical thing in the revamping of NCZ is not that our government has no money but they donot have alternative plans to invest in the ventures that will not directly benefit them. The survival of some factories such as NCZ IS VITAL specificaly for the development of the country through Agriculture.

  3. They are going to dismantle NCZ and sell it for scrap, that’s why they built a smelter just across the road…

  4. ba govt, jus admit ati you have failed to run major industries in Zed. look at indeni, breaking down almost every week. NCZ is now a white rhino zambia is better off privatising it coz i don’t forsee govt buying new equipment to replace the antiquated infrastracture at these two major companies.

  5. bloggers ,its deliberate that NCZ is not functional. The politicans benefit by NCZ not working . The president son supplies fertilizers . He was award K30billion contract( sata mentioned this in one of the taloid though he did not mention the name of the relative ) to supply the fertilizer and you think these guys will love to see NCZ operating forget it… until we change the leaderdship of this country things will continue as the are . Please do not even waste your time talking about NCZ. Even the late president had one indian supplying fertilizer by fronting a prominent Zambian called Dr Morris … .

its very sad only God will help us from these crooks

  6. Bishop Mambo and to the Zambians the Kafue Nitrogen Chemical was shut down so Politicians can benefit,Mr Mwanawasa’s wife she is a partner in a Company which imports fertilizer into Zambia,This is what Zambians need to do; 1.Sue the Govt to either open NCZ or sale it to it’s employees.

  7. Africa, and Zambia in particular has no excuse for not produce enough food for itself. Zambia has plenty of land and water. What we need to do is;
    (a) Have enough inputs each season – no middle-men
    (b) Provide better access to farm areas(good roads)
    (c) Any food produced must be quickly bought and safely stored
    (d) Remove tax on imported agricultural goods for five years.
    (e) Provide cheap electricity in farm blocks for a while.
    (f) Encourage the unemployed to go farming.

Wake up Zambia and produce food.

  8. I think # 19 , thre could be some truth in what u have said about linking politicians to the importation of fertilizer. No wonder they r reluctant to open up NCZ, thats corruption(using one’s position for dishonesty practice for illicit advantage)

  9. You do not to revamp Kafue Nitrogen whatever revamp means. It has been loss making since it was created in the seventies. Never madea profit. The solution is sale it. What does Mambao know about runninga busness. He knows nothing about economics too.

  12. Can any of you bloggers with technical knowldge of the working of a fertilizer plant please educate me on the economic viability of the technology at NCZ. Is it not outdated technology we are talking about here?

  13. we need to change our mind-set & start looking at how best we can move our country forward by doing more actions than just taking.
