Burundi hold 10-man Zambia

Share

Burundi maintained their unbeaten run against 10-man Zambia today when they rallied to hold the 2006 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup to a 1-1 draw in the latter’s penultimate Group B in Jinja, Uganda today.

Burundi beat Zambia 3-2 in the two sides last international meeting also in the Cecafa Cup in 2006 in both sides opening Group B match.

In today’s game, Zambia were reduced to 10 men after midfielder Kebby Hachipuka who is shortly expected to join Zesco United from Green Eagles on a 12-month loan was shown a red card in the 70th minute.

Burundi equalized deep into time added-on of the 90 minutes through Claude Nahimana who scored his third goal of the tournament after capitalizing on some slack defending by Zambia.

Zambia meanwhile took the lead in the 58th minute through Roger Kola whose goal benefited from an assist from his Zanaco club mate Given Singuluma to record his first goal of the tournament

Kola came off the bench in the 46th minute after replacing ineffective Zesco forward Lottie Phiri.

Zambia must now beat Sudan on Tuesday in their final Group B match to stand a chance of finishing in the top two to secure a place in next Sunday’s semifinals.

However, Herve Renard’s side are still unbeaten in the competition despite two successive Group B draws on 5 points from three matches, with Burundi on 4 points from two games while Kenya are third on 2 points from two games.

Defending Champions Sudan who have a point going into the later kickoff today against winless Djibouti have 1 points from one match played in Group B.

  1. Been waiting for this result. Thanks LT. Ala kwena, I hope this PE wins this tournament. He has to better what PP did and from the look of things it looks like we have gone back. Anyway I will hold my fire till the Sudanese match. I expect a tournament win and nothing less. If we won it with a coach who was paid peanuts, how much more with this one. Am still convinced he is a PE teacher

  2. We have to win the remaining game. It was to bad for Hachipuka to be red carded. I wish the chipolopolo all the best to win the game with sudan

  4. Can this renard prove to the Zambian people that he is a better coach than PP and that he deserves what he is being paid for.Otherwise i will find it hard to believe in this PR trainer.

  5. Matworld, the ma Pale si ba nvela waziba. When israel is quite, they fire rockets in there to start hostilities.
However human life is priceless and Israel has to show restraint.

  6. I have always wished for a dream team – Zambia 11, Chipolopolo. In my view, I want a formation where the strikers would be say not less than 1.85m tall and well built and talented ofcourse. While the midfield can have heights between 1.65m and 1.7. Then, the backline of defenders also to be tall and well built like Elija LITANA was then. I have noticed that if I wanted to get my dream strikers I won’t be wrong to venture into Southern province of Zambia. Tonga bulls why don’t you produce strikers? I just, one day, want to watch TALL and AGGRESSIVE strikers in the Zambia 11 team, anyway they can come from which ever province provided they meet the specifications. This is the wining formula.

  7. #15 Remember that era when we had the likes of Funny Hangunyu (sp), Jones Chilengi, Kalu when he was only a boy, Golden Kazika, Ashoes Melu, Fighton Simukonda, Jerico Shinde, Emmy Musonda, Phillimon Mulala, Efford Chabala and the rest?

All big guys. I wonder what has happened to our country.

  10. #16 WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS VERY SIMPLE BUT NO ONE WANTS TO ADMIT IT AND TAKE STEPS TO CORRECT THE SITUATION.ALL THESE NAMES YOU TABULATED CAME MOSTLY FROM THE COPPERBELT TEAMS.THE MINES(ZCCM) PLAYED A BIG ROLE IN SHAPING THESE PLAYERS MENTIONED.I GREW UP ON THE COPPERBELT AND THE MINES PROVIDED A VARIETY OF SPORTS FACILITIES AND THE PARTICIPATION OF YOUNG ONES ENCOURAGED AND BY THE TIME ONE WAS 18,19 OR EVEN 20 WILL HAVE BEEN VERY WELL SHAPED AND PROBABLY BE PLAYING IN B TEAM WHICH ALSO HAD A LEAGUE.SCHOOL F/BALL WAS SO MUCH.STARTING FROM PRIMARY WE HAD A LEAGUE UPTO SECONDARY.BUT THIS IS NO LONGER THERE,PLAY GROUNDS ARE NOW PLOTS AND MANSIONS BUILT ON THEM.PLAYERS OF 2DE START PLAYING AT 20.

  11. Good pipo am out, stay blessed and avoid fighting. There is war raging the side on th maize meal thread.

It looks like our boys won’t have it easy in East Africa. The competition is much tougher than I thought.

  14. I don’t even know the names of our players. How times change my team Bravo Nchanga Rangers is now in division one, who ever thought that would happen in our life time. no one unless one is a psycho. Since i stopped supporting Ba fipolopolo the quality of my life has taken an upward turn. ALL THE BEST TO YOU SUPPORTERS.

well said bro. i also think we should set physical standards for our footballers.
i have seen our midfielders who average 1.65 m tall struggle to keep up with the Arabs and west African opponents who are usually 1.8m.
Zambian football as gone so low that countries like burundi, rwanda no longer fear us.
    god bless us

I appreciate your analysis of the possible causes of the decline of our soccer prowess. ZCCM,YOUTH, and I would like to add two more. First, resumption of Zambia schools vs Kenya/Tanzania/Malawi(There used to be trophies for these competetions). The young people need to play together for a number of years to play well. Just think of it if Zambia schools team played as under-20, then under 21/23, then graduate to the senior team. Second, the soccer addministrators leaves much to be desired. How many times have you heard the coaches saying, “Twana again” when a boy scores? There is lack of psychological preparation for both coaches and players. Top scorers last just for a season.

  17. A few years ago,it was unheard of thta such underdog teams can pull draws with Chipolopolo. Bola naipwa pa Zed completely! Ine chifukushi!!!

  18. This is bad though not suprizing. what has happened is our game has degenerated below standard not that Burundi,Kenya or Uganda have improved.Next we shall draw 5 – 5 with war ravanged Somalia at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe at the rate we are going. We have very few players in europe meaning our league must be tough since most play withing. But the picture is different we are perenial losers at Club championships hence now struggling at National team level. The GoDs MuSt bE CrAzY PaRt Iv

  19. As they say if you pay peanuts initially you get monkeys. But if you pay more you get performing monkeys.let us take sport back into the schools, probably you may have some results. Well Physical education is good if put in to the right minds. Sport should not be the end result it should be a stepping stone to reality.

If you have intelligent players you will have excellent results! No matter how good a cook you may be, if the ingredients are off may be another miracle can do.

If you want a good footballer take them through calculus, algebra by the time you have an intelligrnt player and a thinking team them you shall be in contention for 2010. So start now!!!

  20. Mwangala Sianga i agree we need tall an talented strikers. in order to achieve this we should encourage talented Bemba men to marry Lozi women.im sure we can produce the Adebayors of this world.By the way, where are the chidren left by those Senegalese on the CB.
