Zambia Cecafa Cup Update

Share

It is rest period for Zambia until Thursday at the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Uganda.

Injuries and suspensions have taken their toll after three grueling matches in a space of five days.

William Njobvu is set to return from suspension after accumulating two yellow cards and should start in Thursdays crucial must-win Group B match against Sudan.

However, midfielder Kebby Hachipuka will miss the match due to suspension after his red card on Sunday in the 1-1 draw against Burundi.

Defender Elijah Tana is one match away from suspension and is on one yellow card.

Coach Herve Renard will be without Kabwe Warriors midfielder Maunga Kabuku who is out for the next five weeks due to a broken bone in his left foot now cast in a plaster of Paris.

Striker Roger Kola and midfielder Kennedy Mudenda are on the mend with the former making his comeback on Sunday when he came off the bench to score the opener in the match against Burundi.

With these development, coach Herve Renard has called in two reinforcements from home in midfielder Henry Banda and striker Nicholas Zulu from Zanaco and Zesco United respectively.

The duo is set to leave on the Monday’s midnight flight from Lusaka to Nairobi before connecting to Entebbe.

Meanwhile, while Zambia are taking some time to regroup and plan, Sudan are in action against Burundi 15:00 tomorrow in a match either side will be looking for the three points on Tuesday.

Victory for Burundi would push them into first place on 7 points so too would Sudan should they win who will go to six points ahead of Zambia who are on five points.

Kenya, on two points from as many Group B games, face bottom placed Djibouti in the earlier kickoff at 12:30 on Tuesday.

  1. Why leave out dependable players in the first place, and only to recall them afterwards. Ine ninga kane. Being used as a spare wheel.

  2. Here comes the mathematical qualification of the chipolopolo boys again. They never seem to learn form their past mistakes; allowing a goal in the last minute of the game from underdogs

  3. LT thanx fo the updates but plz yu shud be reading thru yo work b4 posting.kenya and sudan are both on 2points each having drawn 2 successive matches.if they both win, they will be on 5 points like zed, only goals fo and against will seperate the 3 teams.second time yu’re making mistakes on points-CECAFA.Good luck zed.

  5. Drawing 2 games in a roll, gualifying to semis now mathematical is what we are now best known for.

    ONE ZAMBIA ONE PONDAPONDA

  6. They have really moved from Chipopolo to Chipantepante.
You can do better than this guys. Put in extra effort. All the same
    good luck.

  7. zamfoot this is the second time you have exagarated the situation. I don’t know if you get the math wrong or you are just misinformed. I win will put sudan at five points not six, a draw is 1pt and a win 3pts. I noted you making the same miscalculations after zambias second draw.

Its a good evening my brother, though the weather is not african friendly.
Have you had a chance to watch Zambian soccer players in South Africa’s PSL ?

  9. [-x #17 you are wrong. There is nothing like misinformation or miscalculating. In Lusaka 1+4=6. Whats wrong with that misinformation? What about 8 millon votes out 6 million adults, its normal.

  10. Roma side

Too bad my dear try to keep yourself warm,I can send you malasha :-j:-j.Yes I have been watching Bena Joseph musonda though too much red/yellow cards,Kennedy mweene,Chamanga when he was here, and Our Mbesuma.

  11. Zambians sports journalists have been struggling to write proffessional soccer articals and it has been difficult for them to do a comprehensive match analysis of CAF Champions Legue,Euefa Champions Legue and other tournaments. If you want a good preview analysis of a Chipolopolo game ,its advisable to read South African papers or watch SABC and S Sport.

  12. Every good coach should anticipate injuries and suspensions of players & coach Renard should have done his home work and carried enough amunition for this tournament. It’ll be sad not to win this tournament because Renard did not anticipate such problems.

Make no mistake, football worldwide has improved and I hope Zambia did not go to CECAFA thinking they are playing under dogs.
The game against Sudan will no doubt be tough looking at Sudan’s performance at CAF. Good luck Chipolopolo boys!

  13. Jenks at #32, I think we were just invited to boost the competition. The CECAFA has been diluted since the withdrawal of Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe. It used to be a very good tournament in the early 80s. Basically, they appreciate the force we once were and miss that.

#33 3Muskteer,thanx for that. Lets they wont feel bad if we scoop the trophy being invitees!!, all the best guys..

  15. lets all pretend we are no longer interested with our national team…then we are assured of a win on Thursday. However,if we pressurise them to win we will just be disaappointed as usual.

    Thats Chipolopolo 4u.

    GOOD LUCK BOYS.

  18. Zambia will survive at CECAFA we shouldn’t dispair. dispite it be by mathematics as others say, we win. Zambia is a good team already super eagle needs friendly match with Zambia, so we are good but we need to improve on defence and attacking sides.

    Go Zambia Goooo!!!!!!!!**==**==**==**==

  19. Table Group B
    ……………….P W D L F A Pts
    Burundi .3 1 1 0 6 1 7
    Kenya……. 3 0 2 0 5 1 5
    Zambia…… 3 1 2 0 4 1 5
    Sudan……. 3 0 2 0 1 2 2
    Djibouti…4 0 1 2 2 13 1

This is how the table looks like in Group B after today’s match. Zambia needs a win to go through. A draw might be risk if Kenya and Burundi ends in a draw.

  20. How about a do or die game.May be Zambia should qualify and face kenya in the finals.Zambians should bring as many players to avoid excuses and injuries.
What a game that will be.
