Government has reiterated its commitment in the maintaining and the electrification of traditional rulers palaces.
North-western Province Minister, Joseph Mulyata said government would continue with the policy of maintaining and provision of electricity to chiefs’ palaces under the Rural Electrification Programme (REP).
He said where it may be difficulty to tap power from Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation line, that government would provide solar panels so that chiefs’ palaces are lit.
Mr Mulyata said this in Solwezi today when he paid a courtesy call on Senior Chief Kalilele of the Lamba people during his familiarization tour of chiefs.
Meanwhile, the Minister assured the Chief that more fertilizer would be disbursed to his area as soon as the remaining balance is received.
He said inadequate fertilizer was disbursed to him because Myombo Investment had a deficit of 2,000 bags of D compound and 4,000 bags of urea that is still being awaited.
Mr Mulyata said the Provincial Permanent Secretary is currently busy making arrangements so that the remaining fertilizer balance is received as quickly as possible.
The Minister was accompanied by Provincial Administrative Officer, Kabinga Nondo and Solwezi District Commissioner, Albert Chifita.

Those palaces look normal and middle class to me . Maintaning them shouldn’t cost that much , they should get them solar panels not electricity .
Imwe a Mpezeni is still kicking?
Imwe a Mpezeni is still kicking??
Yes chiefs deserves the best livelihood, here some chiefs get R18,000.But our chiefs should also stay in their chiefdom.Lusaka is not their chiefdom.
Iwe mulyata shuwa namanje fataleza mukalibe kugula. You must be serious! Have you ever done farming in your life?.By this time D compound should have been already applied and just waiting to apply urea.Vinangu muzinkhalako zi chabe,Mumvesa nsoni maningi.
Thats my tax money at work. Atleast it provides
a comfortable dweling place.
The chiefs should be responsible for the maintenance of their palaces, instead of being a constant drain on scanty national resources.
mr. Joseph Mulyata is a teacher with BA in Geography has been a farmer under Zambeef (general manager) and now an MP (politician) real Zambian in western Province.
so he knows what he is talking about. **==
Good morning all! :)>-
Imwe banthu, you mean if you and i can maintain our own homes or houses, why should we be using tax payers money to maintain the chiefs’ palaces? educate me on this one! It just does not make sense. and we say we are poor! These, bane, are not priorities. You know the number of chiefs in zambia? Next, we will be asked to maintain their wives!!:o
We are exaggerating a lot in this country!
government is always talking..when do they act???
#12 are you ka Lulu kaku Muvi T.V
#13 Each one of us comes from a village with a chief. Instead of using tax payers money, can we please maintain the palaces voluntarily. I remember when I was a little girl, my grandfather, a chief, had 4 cars, 2 tractors, a gas fridge and he’ld visit the UK and USA atleast once a year. And the palace would be painted every year. All this done by his children living abroad and in Zambia.
Let us, as individuals try to maintain these palaces. The problem is we have all become too political. We have now started worshipping political leaders. Chiefs are the real KANABESA MULOPWE
#16 UBUFUMU BUCHINDIKA ABENE (My bemba is bad)
#16 and 17 So can we advise the government not to waste our money on such things. We will maintain the palaces ourselves. Let them work on the roads.
WHEN YOU HEAR THAT THEY ARE KILLING EACH OTHER OVER WHO SHOULD BE THE NEXT CHIEF, DO NOT BE SURPRISED BECAUSE THERE S ANOTHER BENEFIT BEING LOOKED AFTER BY GOVT, A FREE CAR AND ALOT MORE.IMWE, NEXT OF KEENS ARE BEING BEWITCHED BECAUSE OF THE SAME
#19 EXACTLY
Sister #20,18,17,16 and Ba Mose#13 You have shown so much wisdom in the issue and it is sad that some who lives in the EU can not rationalize issues as simple as this. Ba Lulu what doing the job have to do with being Zambian, a farmer, a politician and university graduate? This Mulyata is the same man appointed and swore under oath to uphold the constitution of Zambia and was under mining ZRA. Sadly your exposure in the west and his exposure dont seem to amount to much. The chiefs issues has been mismanaged. With every president choosing to take a different stand. I only have one dispute. Who pays Zesco for their bills? The cheifs bills. Zamtel is performing below par because of the huge
govt debt. Zesco is load sheding because it is not able to collect on the services provided and attempts to pass this on to the paying customers has been shot down by ERB(which is great!!). Govt seems to think that by owning to has the right not to fulfill its obligations. This culture is what makes Zambia poor. Lulu if Mulayata is such a brilliant chap why was literally kissing LPM’s feet to keep his job?
hey can someone explain to me whose money and is that money on the budget?…here we go again overrun in the budget?
chief’s palaces is like state house in the chiefdom . the palaces deserve to be rehabilitated by Government. no debate is required here. The palaces are not personal to holder any chief who comes in enjoys the same benefits after all cheifs are the foundation of every society.
#24 There’s only one State House and how many palaces do we have? How long do you think the government is going to maintain the palaces. If they rehabilitate one tonga chiefs palace, the other 4 or 5 chiefs will want their palaces rehabilited immediately, and then a bemba chief will also want his done and the lozi and, oh dear its going to take centuries for the govt to finish all the palaces in Zambia………….now, the question is, at whose expense? Then they’ll start bewitching each other.
How long and how many chiefs do you think will be able to enjoy these benefits?
This is boring. My suggestion is at number 16.
