Motorists threaten to withdraw vehicles due to deplorable D145 road

Share

Some  Motorists in Luangwa  have warned of abandoning  their operations, if  the D145 road connecting the District to the Great East Road is not worked on urgently.

One mini-bus operator,Max Pompi threatened to withdraw his mini buses from operating on the Luangwa route if nothing is done to improve the road.

Mr. Pompi said the D145 main road was in a deplorable state and operators were risking their vehicles.

He appealed to Government to consider improving the road infrastructure in rural districts if people were to benefit from its good policies and programmes.

The Luangwa District main road is in a deplorable state and residents have appealed to Government to quickly consider working on the worst portions before the District is cut off from the rest of the country.

Luangwa District Council Chairman,Buno Size Phiri told ZANIS yesterday that D145 main road was in a bad state  and needs urgent attention before the lives of people are affected.

Mr. Phiri who is also MMD Lunya ward coucillor said Government should quickly consider working on the road as it might affect the agricultural input, distribution and the food supply as the district depends on the same road for its survival.

The Council Chairman said the most affected portions are a 5km stretch in Nyankongolo and a portion towards Katondwe Mission Hospital from the boma.

The Luangwa D145 main road was last worked on in 2000 by Sable Transport.

  1. Honestly, those of us who have used this road can attest that it is in a deplorable state. You would think you were in a war torn zone!

  2. **==**==**==
    ba moze,wat has happend @#1?

it semms roads in eastern are very bad,why not luapula or western?? nowander we have mps let them work….

  3. bambala what do you think bashikulu will be using, goat driven carts?. besides those utu ma vans are meant for cargo so they withstand zed roads.

  4. why cant the government work on these roads, they spend alot of money on holidays and tours.thats money they can use on the roads.its not only in luangwa but even most of the roads like on the copperbelt.MMD wake up please.

  5. LT at work, keep it up we ar with u delete them. OP we know u read our comments pliz let the pipo responsible be taken to task

  6. no more nambala 1,… its true the raods are very bad!!!! the gvt should do something about it, we need the MPs to do their jobs

  7. Bamoze pa mwamba apo
Just what did you say that has irked by LT so?
I did not know that the Luangwa Rd was called D145. I could afford to be in terrible state as the Luangwa often bursts its banks and flows all over the place. The result is what the transporters are complaining about. But will the Govt do anything about it or will the Luangwa residents be left to the mercy of people who want to cash in on their desperation?

  8. In the state in which the road is in, people will just have to wait until after the rains are over…and pray that they dont get cut off!

  9. wow!LT avuta! I think boma must work on the road quickly, that place gives this country much in terms of revenue which is largely spent on Bwazani’s holidays and hefty bonuses for our ministers, so i repeat fix that road or muzafa na njala monga ku southern province.

  10. LT good act to #1. These are some of the creatures who cant even follow simple instructions. That road is a death trap and GRZ must work on it especially that it passes through a national park. The other time we used it we were almost killed by elephants. We had a tyre puncture.

  11. Mbo

It is rude to call other people “creatures”. [-x
Secondly, it seems what almost killed you were Elephants, and not the road! Try to tell the truth…For once. You are just not making any sense. If i were LT, i would have deleted your contribution.

  12. The true test of development is ability to put up infrastructure. Let the government show us that they are commited to this. Poor roads are a sure sign of under-development.

  13. The best solution is to pave all roads leading to all distrcits and other commercial centres. this will stop such complaints and I think RDA is well able to do this.

  14. I am not tribalist or anything, but this is just an observation….this is a direct result of Government policy from 1991 to date when almost the rest of the country got new roads, except for the Eastern province.

In my mind the Eastern Province was sold a dud with respect to road rehabilitation. I hope that this will now be addressed.
