Unknown object injures man

Share

A man of Mukamuli village in Chief Nyawa’s area is battling for his life at Livingstone General Hospital after an object he was scrutinizing blew in his hands.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Lemmy Kajoba confirmed the incident and named the victim as Fresher Miyoba.

Mr Kajoba said the man was injured yesterday around 10 hours when he saw his children playing with a an object that looked like a grenade.

He said in the process of scrutinizing the object, it exploded ripping off his fingers and was later evacuated to Livingstone General Hospital in the night.

Mr Kajoba said police officers have since been sent to the area to establish what the device could be.

  1. its poverty coz people will pick up everything they think gona make them money.Remember “samples” but its an explosive.God help Zambia.

  2. Ba Moze

When you go back home, get rid of any strange objects you see lying around, we dont want similar incidences .

  3. Is Chief Nyawa’s area a war zone to have explosives? I find it difficult to understand how an explosive device can be found in an area where theer is no war, let alone mining activities.May be terrorists have infiltrated the area.

  4. Like KK used to say these are the offshoots of ignorance, poverty, disease and exploitation of man by another. People have been told that bombs contain mercury which can be sold for a lot of money

  5. Baby C

Kuli njala ka? Things are so bad that anything that looks fruity fruity will be picked, scrutinised thoughroughly and an attempt to eat will be made. With this particular case, am sure the man was trying to share the “fruit” without realising he was pulling the pin!

  6. These children of nowadays, they pick up anything they see. Am sure they thought it was toy or something but the father saw an opportunity to make money.

  7. Ati Bwanji Achikulile Ba Moze!

Awe mwakamba bwino.Ija time ya UDI na bene Ian Smith. Iam now connecting things.Manje bazavutika ni ba kumunzi especially that there is no sensitization.

  8. It’s unfortunate that these incidents are now a common occurence in Zambia but it’s not strange, anyone who was there when South Africa was bombing Zambia a long time ago should know that there could be unexploded devices out there especially in Livingstone,Mumbwa & some areas of Lusaka especially Makeni where freedom fighters from SA were based, they were targeted by the apatheid govt, remember the Thabo Mbeki’s also spent years in Zambia,ANC’s HQ was in Zed in those days.
I cannot say it’s hunger or anything,it’s just curiosity,as kids we used to pick up all sorts of unknown things but we were lucky they were not explosives.

  9. Oh! man Iam so sorry,This is what we call proper parental care,I only pray your children you saved will look after you properly especially that they made you lose your fingers.Get well soon I will remember you in my prayers. [-o<[-o<[-o<

  10. G Baby!! :)):))

One minute you sound sorry, then the next ati, “Ichimpwena” ! That really tickled me!

Imwe your friend is in pain you make funny of him.Awe the story is so touching but I couldnt help it,but to LOL!! :-j:-j:-j:-j

  12. i feel so bad that the man had to sacrifice for his children coz am sure they could have all died.it was in the making of God to save the kids i guess.its so unfortunate.

  13. G BABY
How are you today? Hope all is well today. Please lets not blame the man if anything we have to declare him a HERO he has lost his fingers in the process of saving his beloved children.

    Ba Moze

It is in loving memory of my former school. :-j:-j

  14. Matworld

Dont be too hasty in declaring the man a hero. that was a sign of greed. Like i said, Kuli njala and even he thought it was a fruit. am sure when he realised he had pulled a pin from an explosive device, his last words before the explosion must have been, “oh, oh!! Wapya Munzi!!”.

  15. Matworld

There are a lot of inconsistencies in the story. To begin with, you realise your children are playing with a grenade, then after you take it from them (which apparently amounts to “saving” as you put it), you begin to SCRUTINISE the grenade! Come on, what is there to scrutinise? More especially if you are not a military personnel? A grenade is a grenade, and if he knew that, he should have kept away from it and informed the authorities. Simple. I still insist, he thought it was a fruit!!

  16. Ba Moze

Mudala wanga Moze sure mwati wauka mushe lelo iwe?Honestly what has made you think that th poor man thought it was a fruit. You are right may be the children thought it was a fruit and pulled the pin,but the man is just too old to think it was a fruit.mind you niba shimwana ka.Iam worried mudala wandi taubukile bwino lelo. 8->8->8->8->

  17. Baby C

Nice-guy!! I Will go back to my name its just that I have missed my former secondary school.Nacililota lelo.

  18. Baby C and G baby, would you please tell us what the C and G in your screen names stand for. I have a clue for the G except if I mention it, I will risk LT banning me. LT has been going to church too much lately.

  19. It is possible the children or the man could have thought that it was a fruit or something. Most of these anti-man landmines are made in very attractive shapes or objects like tennis balls or something. They are sure deceptive chaps as one puts it cuz in the first place the idea is to maim or kill the intended recepient. Too bad for the old man and just hope authorities are not turning a deaf hear to such stories. Seems like there is a serious problem out there. Someone might say, govt has no resources, but I believe there some UN agency that deals with that and govt can get some assistance.

    Riders!!

  20. This is ignorance at its best. I think the man thought it was a sample. In Zambia if people hear a gun shot, you will see everyone running towards the direction of a gun shot. In other counrties if you hear a gun shot people are always running away avoiding danger.
I ve seen this before. Too bad for a man of Mukamuli village in Chief Nyawa’s area. :-w

  21. Its a shame that we export copper, diamonds, cobalt et al, and they send us Grenades,AK 47’s, Useless fighter jets and the like.
And all the while they are saying, they are civilised!
And its the poor that suffer mainly; think of this, a dude(in USA or Europe) is buying his girl friend a diamond encrusted ring and you loose your fingers here as a grenade explodes in your hands!
    CIVILISATION? MY FOOT!

  22. you see people are starving in rural areas yet RB is not giving them food, whats happening now how is he going to be cultivating without fingers am sure this man is a farmer big time. RB please give people food before we lose lives.

  23. Now after getting that oof my chest, may i say MUZUHILE to all the bloggers.
I can see Ba Mose BC(Blog Counsel),Matworld, Ka Baby C (aka chachine),G Baby and the other Sensible bloggers are already here.
    Morning mwe Mblogishi?

  24. Breaking News. It has been scientifically proven that the more educated you become, the less money you will earn. Here is how scientist in Lundazi, my home village arrived at this wonderful conclusion:

They say Knowledge is power, So K=P where K is knowledge and P is Power. But in Physics, Power is equal to work done over time. Therefore K=W/t where W is work and t is time. Furthermore, they say time is money, so replacing t with m where m is money, we have K=W/m. You plot a graph of K (Knowlede) against m (money) and you will prove me right that K=W/m. So fellow bloggers go to school at your own peril.

  25. #55 UMUGAZEBO and FAMILY, I would have paid, now the last money I had I used it to buy real fruits (oranges and apples) not grenades for our suffering brother in Hospital. So maybe you can tell me pa nkongole because I really want to know. The problem with me is that am too imaginative. Yaba. So maybe its not even what I think. But I need to clear my mind. Lol.

  26. Expert advice. That object could not certinly be a grenade because at close range like that, any grenade would have shred the entire body to pieces. What the man was holding could either be (1) A detonator which explodes when exposed to body heat or (2) A grenade which has somehow been drained of its TNT contents but for the initiator system or indeed the detonater depending on the type of grenade.

  27. **==**==**==

in what capacity was this man to start scrutinising such an object?

am sure he thot of making umuzulu,if it was not to explode, this tyme ngalenwa shake-shake…..

  28. #65, I used to get a lot of questions wrong at school so let me take advantage and make up on this one. Nakashukila aka. Choose one which suits you.

    1. lough out loud

  30. Bloggers

Can we all please sign the passport petition?? Very important ka?

    Jens spear

That chap banton is a rude, antagonistic and patronising blogger. I’ll sort him out. akalumba fye!! i wont care what LT will do to me. I have had it up to here with him and his language!!!

  31. Too bad for the man. Sometimes you wouldnt understand why of all things you could be hit by an explosive. I personally wish him a quick recovery and hope he is not seriously injured or dismembered.

  32. Believing his children were is most important assets, he had to ensure that he removed this suspicious toy from the kids. Alas, it exploded in his hands. If the children had to continue playing with the ‘toy’ for another minute or two, they were to be the victims. Their small, tender and immaculate bodies could have been minced, a more fatal event. Lets donate domestic and user friendly toys to our children in the rural areas

  33. vey poor journalism> the story not conclusive, what was it and how did it happen. This is 24 hrs later. The police like to say “un known people at an un known location on unknown date” such a thing happenend!!! no wonder we failt to tell a story in court that can stand to get a conviction most of the time on straight forward cases i.e. FTJ’s cases. Please save us.

  34. #70 Baby C, this time your instincts have really let you down. Me and Matworld are two different keyboards dear.

  35. Ba Moze , you obsession with me is disturbing why you keep me on your mind is silly. Go on with your life instead of spewing rumours and gossip. If you are accusing me of bad language shown me where I have used a swear word. It is just that your pathetic view on life makes you think just because somebody puts you in your place they are insulting you. You are the one going round showing unstable composure that only a female with antinatal problems can rival.

  36. imwe it happened kwabu lozi (i think Sesheke area) in December last year. Four children from the same family lost their lives after scrumbling for a hand greenade. infact these kids were 5 in number but the fifth was known member of the family so got sidelined and thats how he stood afar watching the other four split in seconds. the eldest was 18 and youngest 8, if my memory saves me right!

  37. Chief Nyawa’s area is under dispute, may be this could be the source of these problems. Gov’t must step in and solve this crisis in a peaceful manner otherwise many people could lose their lives and if this land dispute remains unsolved, it could well develop into serious civil unrest with long term implications on the safety and peace of the people and the general image of Zambia as a peaceful country.

  38. this is the 3rd or 4th bomb/explosive accident i have heard in a period of 6 months, can the govt do sumthing like sweep thru areas that r suspected to have the same.

  39. I’ve seen quiet a few things explode (and made some from household items before). Sad though. Ba GRZ, chi statement on your demining efforts kuma border areas kabili.

  40. Ba Moze it’s you weak emotions that are getting the best of you, stop using me as a scapegoat for your deprived upbringing.

Yes in remember ma “SAMPLE” especially when you had to raise money urgently to take your girl freind for a movie. Those were interesting times…
Comming to back to the story i hope the man recovers fully..

  42. Sorry Mr Fresher Miyoba. I wish you a quick recovery. However, the name Fresher Miyoba reminded me of freshers at UNZA.
Just in December, I recommended that GRZ must declare a National mourning for the 4 one family children who died as a perfect opportunity to educate the whole Nation about picking up strange objects.

A serious opportunity was missed by GRZ and now GRZ has to educate the whole Nation through expensive means. Please, GRZ take EDUCATION seriously as Mr Wesley Ngwenya also put it. It has potential to bring in much more foreign exchange than Tourism if handled properly for Zambians speak and write better English Language compared to most Africans. South Africa now enjoys ..

  43. 94 continued.
South Africa enjoys sending its people for English Language teaching activities to Asia especially Korea. Also, it enjoys the presence of Chinese students who go there in numbers to learn – and I am told they are sponsored by their governments to learn at Universities deliberately.

Learn to take EDUCATION seriously for both the Nationals and foreigners can enjoy if a normal well executed education programme is in place. Also, many exchange students who like to have an African Experience can be motivated to come to Zambia to feel the REAL AFRICA-NESS.

  44. 1. Buy your kids toys **== they pick up anything strange they see to play with (open)
    2. Teach your kids to stop picking up every rubbish they find.
