  1. I think the new system of giving driving licences will help curb this scourge. Please RTC hurry up and make all fake drivers go to rest.

  2. May Our Good Lord receive your souls with gladness.Rest in eternal peace, hope you had a closer relationship with God.

  3. thats the problem we have with this bus drivers they always do things without thinking ; what was he running for/.tell that driver wherever is he to hang himself.

  4. guys its not just fair to blame drivers all the time..those of us who drive know that the obstacles faced on the road are so many..sometimes you can be overtaken to prevent a young pedestrian while forgeting that you are carrying more lives with you in a car..an accident is unpredictable unfortunately

  5. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families.May God carry you through the mourning period and after that he will comfort and dry your tears in his own special way.

  6. What has happened to the speed limiters on PSVs?

Is RTSA monitoring these PSVs? I doubt if the authorities are doing their work. These bus drivers are so reckless on the road and they’re now driving at super-speed.

We can’t afford to be losing lives like this. This is really sad.

  7. princess vayola…

    Ati how muliche.

Eye what you are saying is true alot happens on the road and sometimes its just time.death is unavoidable.we will all die except we dont know what will cause our death.its just that so many lives have been lost mwe.may the souls of the departed ones rest in eternal peace.

  8. # 13, Princes vayola, this particular accident, the driver was wrong because he wanted to overtake 3 vehicles in a roll and had head-on collision with an on-coming zimbabwean truck. These minibus drivers are very careless. They are all the same as if they were born from the same mother. :((:((:o:o:o

  9. The minibus driver should be found and charged with murder, i was there 30minutes after the accident and you can see the negligency in him. You cant over take when your visiblity is not good enough to overtake, and there is a hilly and slope kind of road where the accident happened and a very good driver should not attempt to overtake there.

  10. My condolenses to the bereaved families. May the Almighty confort you. These so called bus drivers should be desplined, RTSA please help us.:((:((:((

  11. Senseless on the roads by the so called public service drivers is causing so many deaths on our roads. And to imagine that some of those people even had relatives waiting for them paja pa Mandebvu only to hear that there is an accident uku. Shame. This driver must be given life once he’s caught.

  12. very sad indeed..this reminds me of what happened in my family.
A man checked into a hotel in Cape Town .There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an e-mail to his wife. However, he accidentally typed the wrong e-mail address, and without realizing his error, he sent the e-mail.Meanwhile …..somewhere Pretoria my aunty a widow had just arrived home from her husband’s funeral. The my aunty decided to check her e-mail, expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she
fainted. The her son rushed into the room, found his mother on the
floor, and saw the computer screen which Read: To: My Loving Wife

  13. Poor management by Chipata Municipal council. Why authorise the slashing of maize and then turn around and say the victims will be compensated. Heads must roll as this is a shear waste of our meager resources.

  14. cont:from #25. Subject: I’ve arrived.
Date: June 20, 2008 I know you’re surprised to hear from me.
They have computers here now, and you are allowed to send e-mails to your loved ones. I’ve just arrived and have been checked in. I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was.

P.s. It is damn hot down here!!

    See you

  15. #19 Baby G, don’t know what you use for reasoning but you can’t say death is unavoidable in such circumstances where a human factor was wholly the cause of the accident. There is a saying that holds true that accidents don’t merely happen but they are caused! How can a sane being in charge of the safety of over 20 innocent souls overtake three other vehicles in a roll in Zambian roads and expect to maintain the safety of the passengers? Muyowoya bweka namwe a bwezi!

  16. #13, Prices Vayola, I dont agree with you sentiments on this issue. This was a clear case of negligence. If it is in the village the driver should go for spiritual cleansing. I suggest that RTSA should nt just be interested in collecting fees during PSV licencing but subject these guys to physical checks that should in clude sight etc.

  17. This drivers just needed to refer to two basic rules of driving, overtake fast and quickly or hang back when necessary!!!!

  18. “……Ms. Mbangweta out of the 21 victims who sustained injuries, one died last night, eight were in a serious condition while 11 others are in a stable condition.

LT …PLEASE CHECK YOUR WORK BEFORE POSTING…TOO MUCH ERRORS ESP IN THE PASTED TEXT ABOVE(NOTE THAT ITS BEEN EXTRACTED FROM YOUR PAGE)

  19. Any thing can happen on the road. let us not point fingers at each other. Just pray for the families left to find comfort in the Lord. As For me, Driving is only enjoyable at high speeds! I make more mistakes when im driving slowly, coz i tend to feel sleepy! While on the other hand, i tend to be much more active when in high speeds.

  20. Last summer, i witnessed how recklesss these minibus drivers can be. Imagine a driver wants to overtake at a blind corner like landless corner in Chisamba and even overspeeding. I wonder what kind of driving schools these chaps attended.Govt has to move in coz too many lives have been lost.

  21. Matworld, Sony eric,kambongolo, Nine Chale,Lusaka, Ndolic, kiswa,Alfred, Sweet Zed fimfimo…

    Good night 😡 and :*.

I have stopped generalising because some of you dont bother to say…goodnight too.:-h

  22. May the souls of those who died rest in peace. I will keep my ear to the ground for any new developments.

  23. This is really sad. However, some of the deaths that result from such accidents are not really out of the severity of the injuries but lack of primary care before an injured person is taken to the hospital. The injured are unprofessionally handled and the time factor taking the injured to the hospital is also critical. But due to inadequate ambulance services in the country, we continue loosing lives that we shouldn’t be loosing. This problem has been there for a long time and its amazing how the government has paid a blind eye in resolving it.

  24. Its high time RTSA became seriuos with punishing drivers who drink and drive or drive and drink.Zambia is one of the few countries in the world that consumes so much alcohol, and RSTA have no capacity to detect drivers who are drunk. Its sad to end peoples`lives just like that.MAY THEIR SOULS REST IN PEACE.

  25. Hey Bloggers if you dont see my comments anymore check #52 and inform LT thats a genuine contribution. I feel as if i am at Chikwa Court :((

  26. #49 You make a very good point. I think many lives would be saved if adequate investment was made by government in the appropriate areas. When such traumatic accidents occur the amount of time it takes to get a victim to the hospitical often means the difference between life and death.

  27. These buses pa Zedi ‘ARE MOVING COFFINS’

You take a deep breath when you get to your destination alive.
    This carnage should stop.
    *-:)*-:)8-x8-x8-x:-??[-o<[-o<[-o<^:)^^:)^

  28. Guys.

Please if there is anyone who has got a relative ku LT,please speak to them on my behalf please .Before I start playing dress barby or Brat.I really want the latest news.Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!
    [-o<[-o<[-o<[-o<

  29. Hy Mat World Nice Guy, did you see LT marking me for moderation for my comments at #52 ? I felt for once like a plunderer at Chikwa Court. What LT doesnt understand is that I make a living by blogging ka ?

  30. Bloggers believe me or not, it doesnt take a minibus driver to drink for him to cause an RTA. These guys’ background is that of first being call boys at Kulima of KMB. From the ‘seshako motoka mwaiche’ driving experience, next these guys are driving PSV vehicles. Their care for other road users is simply not there period.

  31. Ba Maureen hope you have not forgotten that you can never do 70 miles/hour back home, and, that roads are not marked in Zed.

  32. ba LT, your reporting skills have to improve. The way this article started! Some of us didn’t know about this accident but the story starts as if we all knew about it. Elo ama spelling mistakes, ommissions, … awe mwe! #:-s

  33. We are asking you as a Zambian despite your Party affiliation to go to Lusaka Times and sign the Petition,Call relatives, friends and all the Zambians you know to go and make their voice known by signing the petition. It has been 24 hrs since the petition drive started and less than 100 Zambians have signed the petition we need 50,000 – 100,000 signatures. We are counting on your petition.

  34. Too bad for the loss, may the souls of the deceased rest in peace.
Also the blame should rest with the local councils for not putting up traffic lights and warning signs!!! these quacks awesure!!!

  35. People have complained about these cheeky creatures(minibus drivers ) for a long time but nobody seems to listen or care. How many lives are we going to lose before someone realizes that we have kabovas/evil minded pipo for drivers? When the police become very strict with them pipo complain and even insult the police. The only way to deal with these creatures is to be extremely strict and ban them from driving for life if they commit such serious offenses.

  36. The road network needs to be up-graded as more traffic uses that route. Its a big loss to have so many people die. This sort of stuff rarely happens in more mature and developed economies.
Something needs to be done and soon.

  37. In recent times it has undoubtedly been observed that the proportion of fatal accidents occuring in Zambia in relation to the vehicles on the roads and the population, is shockingly higher than expected. A lot of them have been accidents which could have been avoided. Contributory factors to these accidents in Zambia have ranged from lack of legitimate driving licences, no road sense, overspeeding to show off, recklessness, unroadworthy vehicles, corruption vis-a-vis granting undeserved licences, passing road unworthy vehicles and relevant govt. authorities that have no will or the conscience to employ concerted measures and punishments that will save lives.

  38. The Govt needs to invest heavily in the road infrastructure infact all roads in Zambia need to be dual carriageway apart from residential areas this will solve a lot of these problems. Secondly liability car insurance should be mandatory and lastly prroper lighting systems should be available on all roads for night travel.

  39. I WAS TRAVELLING FROM KITWE TO NDOLA IN A 32 SEATER MINIBUS. ON THE WAY JUST BEFORE KAFWE BRIDGE, WE DISCOVERED THAT THE DRIVER WAS DOZING. I TRIED TO TELL THE DRIVER TO PACK THE VEHICLE SO THAT WE COULD USE A SAFER ONE, BUT GUESS! ALL THE PASSENGERS WERE NOT CONCERNED…THEY WERE JUST READING NEWSPAPERS, DISCUSSING BUSINESS, OTHERS WERE JUST LOOKING AT THE DRIVER AND ME. ON THE WAY THE DRIVER PLEADED WITH ME THAT HE WAS TIRED BECAUSE HE SLEPT AT THE FUNERAL HOUSE. NOW READER WHO IS TO BLAME? DRIVER OR PASSENGERS OR BOTH OR POLITICIANS?

  40. Read The Citizens Democtatic Party Manifesto.
Google the Citizens Democratic Party in Zambia.
I think its change came to Zambia
    MMD cares less!

  41. Read The Citizens Democtatic Party Manifesto.
Google the Citizens Democratic Party in Zambia.
I think its time change came to Zambia. We can not afford to wait for another 27 years for change. 20 years of MMD is about enough.
    MMD cares less!

  42. Very sad development. Chingwere junction is a black spot. Alot of people have lost their lives from that point.Condolences to the bereaved families and may the souls of all who perished rest in eternal peace.

  43. Theres no regard for good standard of driing in Zambia. If people can buy licenses and do not even follow road rules what do you expect. If you drive on Roads eslsewhere and in Zambia you will see a huge difference. My father has been driving for 20 plus years in zambia and I only 1 year but am a way better driver. People should respect the roads and motor vehicles otherwise this is here to stay. I can probably count a hundred encounters where I have felt the grim reapers smile on me on Zambia roads

  44. Even the Kazizi’s (illegal cabs) One time when coming from Zenon I got on a kazizi cab with a jahman driver who was swerving. Near Unza I jumped out of the car because this guy was going to get us killed after that he had the nerve to ask for the fare , which of course he never saw .

  45. Accidents are just caused 98%.This is an indication that there is no system in Zambia.RTS is the most corrupt section wing of the Governmment.A traffic officer in Kitwe this week died on a road accident while chasing for money.Taxi drivers celebrated over the body of a dead corp.Moneyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

  46. MAY THIER SOULS REST IN GODS HANDS.
I PUT ALL THE BLAME ON THE ZAMBIAN GOV…. THEY’RE BUSY PATCHING THE SAME ROADS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I CANT TELL ME THE CANT USE THE SAME MONEY TO BUILD MORE ROADS OR MAKE DUAL WAYS. EVEN JUST 5 MILES PER YEAR,BY NOW WE COULD HAVE BEEN DONE WITH THE OVERTAKING WORD.OVERTAKING IS THE MARGER CAUSE OF ACCIDENTS IN ZAMBIA.
ZAMBIAN GOV WAKE UP AND DO SOMETHING.

  47. #78 You are busy calling for support for your petition when other people are paying for the passports. This is not USA, petitions dont work this side of earth my friend. Just pay because govt has no intention of reducing the price. This is not fuel

  48. This is a very big concern for every human being. The problem is that due to lack of jobs some owners of these buses would like to employe their relatives who did not even go through the drivers tests but they have a knowledge of driving and some drivers are just drivers who can cause the machine to move even without thing of what they are carrying. In this light i would like to suggest that the government or RTC introduces a special school for all public transport drivers so that they can be taught particular laws and guidelines of how to conduct themselves on the road. Some drivers are rude for sure therefore their is need to have a code of conduct in this rspect.

  49. Further more i would like to appeal to all members of the public that we should be very vigilant with these drivers Like no 86 stated these guys sometimes they doz off while driving but as passengers we just sit and watch and read news papers without saying anything then we are the ones to blame for all these acts by drivers. We have a mandate to reject a driver or conductor on a particular bus. These are so many lives that this guy would be holding in his hands.

  50. Ban mini buses. They are a death trap. Government needs to be serious. This idea was floated by the Mwanawasa government.

  51. The Ndola- Lusaka route needs to be made a dual carriage way. Vehicles on this route are normally very fast and there is heavy traffic too. The road has no smooth space at the edges making it difficult for anyone to swerve off from an overtaking car.
The other thing is we need mature drivers to drive passengers not these excited youngsters who still want to prove their speeding skills on the road. And commuters try to speak out if the driver is overspeeding or driving carelessly. This might save your life and others too. I suggest a minimum age of 30 years for PSV drivers

  52. I agree with nr 86, but will take it even a bit further. If the pipo was not so laidback and dumb, these kind of things would not happend. I have my self experienced a drunken minibus driver in Kafue Road, and nobody gave a s***. I wanted him arrested, but then the rest of the bus started to protest. Forgive him etc. These deaths are ONLY due to the pipo weak minds and values.

  53. #102 the way people are in ZED consider themselves respectfull. Their thinking confuses me most times especially when it comes to some of our filthy-minded bus drivers. I just don’t get it.

  54. This country has not rules whatsoever, any tom, dick and hurry can drive a car and at what ever speed they wish and even after such a tragic thing can happen this ignorant Government of ours will not even for a second take the time to fix the problem. Everyday we hear about accidents in Zambia and what is this selfish Government doing to reduce this? x(
