Security personnel attack on local people unsettles govt official

Share

Mazabuka District Commissioner, Tyson Hamaamba says he is concerned with the reports from Kafue gorge in which some Zambia Army officers are reportedly torturing and assaulting civilians.

Mr Hamaamba who rushed to Kafue gorge to investigate the reports told ZANIS in Mazabuka, he has appointed a team of senior security officers to probe the matter further.

He said the team will visit the Army Camp on Tuesday and would submit its findings to his office before necessary action is taken against the culprits.

Mr. Hamaamba said Namalundu ward councillor, Beatrice Halooba briefed him on the developments although he could not disclose for fear of jeopardising with the investigations.

Ms Halooba called on the Minister of Defence to intervene and protect villagers from being tortured and assaulted by some army officers.

Ms Halooba told ZANIS in Mazabuka, some villagers had gone into hiding because they feared for their lives.

This was after some villagers beat up an Army officer during a drinking spree.

The Zambia Army Officers are stationed at Kafue gorge in Mazabuka to guard the ZESCO installations.

  1. They r applying wat they learnt ku military training and probably chifukushi chakuti they arent well paid. By the way specify if they are officers 4real or other ranks.Send them 2 Darfur, simple…

  2. Baby C infact, after giving them a “sack” take them to court. To be honest we should not be talking about this now.

    Rashid well done. l-)

  3. The soldiers are merely bored. They need proper challenges to keep them busy. Baby C, Gaza may really be what they need.

  4. 3RqU. you guys left me dozzing or is it ‘Bandaling’ on the other thread. You too swift, how do you sniff a new one abena Rashid jones…

  5. You see our soldiers are bored frankly speaking. No money, no women and no entertainment basically. They propose to these tonga women and the women refuse. Kuboma fye nomba!! Thats what poverty can do. Sacking them as someone has suggested, is not the answer. you would simply be putting more thugs on the street. Just send them to some hot spot around the globe. Dafur, Congo (to find Nkunda) or better sill, Pakistan to try and capture that Al qaeda man.

  6. I have a messege for Matworld’s friends,
He says he loves you all and he is missing all of you. He is saying hi to you all.

  7. Typical of Zambian soldiers. When one of them is assaulted, they vent their anger on the villagers. This is not the first time this has happened. They are behaving like thugs…

  8. now listen you chaps, these guys if really soldiers are doing just the right thing. how do you confront ‘boma’? i support them. go ahead beat the chaps who engage into confontantion with you..

  9. Baby c, The award has made Maestro to become big headed. Who is he to tell bloggers what to do? Just ignore him.

  10. Baby C and #30 Rashid. After what happened to me on Friday, I started thinking Maestro was a shareholder of LT. I hope the award was not achieved through rigging, because if its about the contributions he’s making, I dont find anything impressing with what he writes…..shhhhhh I hope he wont see this, because he’ll write the whole page

  11. Baby C the guy is lonely. Just leave him alone. We have met here as Zambians and have made a big family. People from different back grounds. We may differ with who we support for presidency but taking it to that level is just ludicrous really.

There are so many factors which lead to a person behaving like he does. Just leave him alone. I am not being awkward but I doubt his childhood very much. That`s reason in the western countries counselling plays a big part

Even when he means well just ignore him. I would!

  12. NAKED truth. These are PF soldiers. just want to cause confusion so that their leader can be incorporated into a coalition government like Zimbabwe and and Kenya. Woe!!! its too late.

  13. ….somebody should really get something to do for these poor guys. I visited a barrack on my last visit to Zambia and all you could see were literally bored idol soldiers roaming or just seated around the barracks. A sad site to see indeed 🙁

  14. Lady chiza’s legs, how can they be pf soldiers? I didnt know that PF has sodiers.please shade more light on that.

  15. #36. brevity. am using a mobile phone to blog and the screen is small so I have to be brief. I mean supporters, cadres, etc like you.

  16. Its good for the civillians because you taunt the Army that they cannot react. You are on your own. Well done soldier-blue, discipline em thats when they will see your might. **==

  17. The officer beaten up by a villager is not worth his rank. Just shows how mickey-mousy our soldiers have become. Their top officers are overweight and completely unfit to run ten miters should an artillery shell be incoming!!

  18. #40 Dont expose your ignorance on this site because it is viewd by millions of people who will associate your illiterate properties with common-sense. Who told you that when you run 10 Metres from ground-zero, you can avoid being injured or killed by an Artillery shell ? Dalo dalo dalo! 😮

  19. If soldiers F..k up, court marshall them period!!! I see no reason why soldiers should behave like party cadres/vigilantes. Whatever happenned to discipline!!! This type of behaviour reminds me of one police officer in Ndola at ‘Boteko’ last saturday who decided to come drinking and was ‘paralytic’ in uniform and felt it was okay because he was police and therefore untouchable. The Zambian people available sorted him out and I have never seen a policeman leg it like he did. Do/can we arrest criminals as citizens i.e citizen arrest? :-w

  20. The soliders must stop Savage Mentality. Seems their minds and behaviour are still that of the Stone Age, where they had no govt, religon respect for other human beings. A young girl of 11 years old travelling to Kabwe with her mother was almost “detained” on a roadblock by soliders because she didn’t have an ID card!!! Luckily the mother was not a coward, she confornted the soliders and other passengers joined in to protect the young girl from remaining at a roadblock in the misddle of nowhere.., with a bunch of sex hungry men with guns!!! Just one example of what men can do in army uniforms :-s And call yourselves Christians

  21. Theres no beating about the bush here the civillians were wrong and they were sorted out as per military discipline. theres a moron who was saying send them to dafur or look for nkunda. Do you even know anything about UN mandate ? dont expose your dullness here

  22. #48 Dont bring stories of the Kaunda era. Esp not those when your mom was 11 for heaven’s sake man. Anyway you wouldnt have been a first born if she had agreed to remain at the roadblock…wise chick

  23. they dont have to be sacked, its the job of police guard not them, they guard the country not zesco, gvt, post office or any public place and not even the presdent but the all nation.

  24. #51 Please, know you Geography. Kafue Gorge is in Mazabuka district and not in Kafue district as you might think. Even the power station is on the southern bank of the Kafue river, which is Mazabuka district. Grade 5 geography, isn’t it? :”>:”>

  25. THOSE SOLDIERS SHOULD BE SENT TO GAZA, THEY DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO AS A RESULT THEY ARE TRAINING ON CIVILIANS **==**==**==**==**== LET ME HAVE A~o)CUP OF COFFEE FIRST THEN COMMENT LATE…GOOD LUCKY U PIPO..

  26. #49
the soldier went to drink and was beaten at the spree by fellow drunkards. its indispline to go and beat the innoscent villagers who were not even there. what we are saying is if they want fighting let them find their way to places of fighting. its the duty of the police to keep order. the soldiers should have reported matter to police. what they did is wrong. its not acceptable even though the civillian who beat the soldier were wrong. it was not a battle front.
please be aware that assault and toture are criminal offences clearly laid down in cap 87 of the laws of zambia, and the procedure to prosecute is adequate in cap 88.

  27. These are not officers but mere soldiers. Army officers are well behaved and reserved. The problem with the Zambia Army soldiers is illiteracy, majority are Grade 7 and 9 dropouts ,their thinking capacity is low. I think they should be deployed to Afganistan for an operation against the talibans just for 90 days maybe from there they will start respecting human life.

  28. Hey chaps. We are out to beef security in Washington DC. We leave em terrorists to nurse their sore ass and go to witness the inauguration of one Barack Hussein Obama, first black African American president.

God bless America and the Zionist state of Israel!
