First Lady Thandiwe Banda says there is need to create awareness about the importance for adequate and decent shelter for the poor in society.

Mrs. Banda said the need for decent accommodation for all is important because access to shelter is a Human Right.

She was speaking at the Habitat for Humanity and Standard Chartered Bank building project in Chazanga today.

Speaking earlier, Habitant for Humanity National Director Petronella Shiaka said her organization will continue to build more houses for the less privileged in society.

Ms Shiaka noted that Zambia’s housing problems have been compounded by one of the world’s most devastating diseases, the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

She observed that 70 percent of urban population in Lusaka has continued to have no access to affordable and quality housing.

And Standard Chartered Bank Managing Director Muzinga Melu said the bank in partnership with Habitat for Humanity will also build eight houses in order to plough back to the community despite the global financial crunch.

  1. That dream will never realised! decent accomodation in Lusaka costs 2000,000 and above! How many people can afford that?

  2. Thandiwe you sleep next to your husband who is President, if you have such bright ideas please pass them on to him, so that he can pass on the information to our Servants (ministers and MPS)

  3. It is not creating awareness that is required, it is using government resources wisely by amongst other things building decent accomodation for the poor and not taking a clan for holidays at the expense of taxpayers who can’t afford decent accomodation. proper planning of the cities and towns and not letting shanties mushroom everywhere is also required. As for the speech, it was written for her by civil servants. I very much doubt she had any input.

  4. Mmmh! back were she comes from a hut is decent housing, don’t sound too townish amai Banda! any way good point. *-:)

  14. “Mrs. Banda said the need for decent accommodation for all is important because access to shelter is a Human Right.”

Please, advise your husband Mr President RB Banda to let his governement create the necessary infrastructure the country and us the Natioals need instead of just speaking without providing details. Above all, please make sure you do not foget to ask him to look into the issue of clean and safe drinking water, sanitation, and lastly food. These are important for now as your husband’s 17 yr old GRZ is creating the necessary building with a habitable touch across Zambia especially Lusaka.

  17. KK builds houses for Habitat for humanity. If the 1st lady even went through govt way she’d be accused of corruption. Hence the charity which is right. The last 2 used slush and govt funds. Just goes to show that RB is distancing himself from that fiasco.

Best thing for her isn’t to form her own foundation but maybe to resurrected Hope Foundation or take the name and this should be passed on to the 1st ladies to follow in their charitable work. This was less narcissistic than MMCI. Most 1st ladies do that. Perfect example is Betty Ford, whose rehab/ clinic si still running to this day.

Obviously the uncouth are still among us. Blesings never fall upon the bitter and twisted.

  18. Can someone please make our first lady look good next time? I think she can afford to hire a fashion/makeup artist. Just saying!

  19. We are tired of speeches, we can’t eat speeches or live in speeches we want action. This is a trick by the African Govts to make people think that they are empathising with them but in the meantime they are the ones who are enjoying and people continue suffering we want results and not compassionate speeches please.

  20. I salute u mama Banda dont listen to Bachiwewe ,try yo best and God will reward. They talked bad things to all first ladies, u have to be strong. At least u r thinkin bout outsiders. U are even better lookin than that one who did plastic surgery. **==**==

  21. i like the way mrs banda is going about things as 1st lady.she’s making the bitter pill of being under RB taste a bit sweeter. :):):)

  22. Mwalawila luweme adade. Lomba mweo mucitepo tyani pa nkhani ya accomodation? You are a proffessional teacher please start with teachers’ houses or lobby your husband’s govt to give teachers housing allowances.

  23. Let me ask you people, how do you want the first lady to look like? Do you want her to bleach her skin till she looks like a gecko lizard? She is beautiful in her on way.In life you can not please everybody. You guys need to get a life. For your own info she is much more comfortable than any of you will ever be shaaa!!~X(

  24. Ba L.T,

  25. I can totally hook her up . But i would have to start with what she eats b 4 getting to the make up and clothing. I would make her take some good vitamin. By the time am done she will be looking good.
    Holla back:d:d

  26. no.76 you are soooooooooooo right i mean the first lady looks to be in shambles. last time i even saw a pic of her and her twins. their hair was unkempt and tattered, dont they have hair dressers shuwa? hahahaha:((

i mean even i can afford one from chawama for alittle as nothing, sometimes i even pay her with clothes.
Please can someone help her dress?:o

  27. does anyone know how old she really is? I have been living in Australia since i was 3. I kinda knew details on the chilubas but i hardly know anything on Thandiwe.
I assume she is from eastern Zambia but how old is she? she looks young compared ro RB.

  28. Ba 1st Lady sure, don’t tell me kulibe MAC blot powder in Lusaka!
#88, I hear she is between 26-30 years old. Not quite sure on the exact age but by looking at her, I’m guessing she’s about 28ish

  29. Hey Guyz,
I happen to be from kitwe where the first girl hails from. she is about 28 years. Some of us saw her grow up ku chimwemwe!!!

  30. Amai Banda! Chi Vera chalechita implement through hope foundation. Are you going to implement what you are saying or is it just for formality’s sake.Don’t just talk for the sake of talking … implement and then talk!

  31. pipo learn to appreciate, the 1st lady is talking sense and u cant see that, pipo are hard to please, dont mind them madam 1st lady, those takin abt muc powder cant evn aford it themselves.wen u can aford 10000000 muc….. pipo talk sense. :x:x:x:x

  32. She should know better, compare in the village where she lived in a mud hut & then wham! State House. She knows the difference. Infact she is speaking for all those poor relatives of hers – amalume & apongozi, avyala ayangu, a dade etc who are still languishing in her village.

  33. My fellow bloggers years do not matter, but all what we can do is to analyse what she has spoken and encourage her to put them into effect kufelile.
