64 year old man escapes lynching

Share

A 64 year old man of Libubu village in Lukulu district, who is suspected of practicing witchcraft, has escaped lynching when angry villagers attacked him.

Raymond Kamukuye and his family escaped death after two men armed with traditional guns stormed his home after rumours went round in village that he was practicing witchcraft. After realizing that he had escaped, the duo burnt his house.

Kashizhi ward councilor, Kakaba Kapalu, expressed disappointment at the action the villagers took saying mob justice was against the laws of Zambia.

He has since called on well wishers to assist the family with food and shelter since their entire property was destroyed in the fire.

And Lukulu District Commissioner Edward Kasempa has directed that all activities of witch finding should be stopped.

He said people were wrongfully accused of witchcraft and suffered at the hands of villagers.

Mr. Kasempa said accusing people of witchcraft was primitive and it caused divisions and death in the community.

He pointed out that such accusations have also undermined development in the country.

He has since instructed police officers to arrest the two men and anyone who was found practicing witch finding in his district.

  1. What a backward bunch I hope they get arrested and charged for abuse of senior citizens. These are the same villagers bloggers think have more sense than people in cities when it comes to voting.

  2. Sony Ericcson
The bloggers on here were singing choruses that MMD won because the villagers are smarter than people in cities that wanted Sata. But the truth is villagers are just used as pawns in elections because of their numbers and are easily impressed.

  3. #12. Shalapungu Banton….if the town dwellers’ supposed superior inteligency over villagers is measured by their choice of Sata then…..kaya mama….the rest of us will only remain woundering as to who is smarter than the other.

  4. OK I have the answer to 17 myself. Its because the witches and wizards are in govt and thats how come they get their positions

  5. # 17. SISTER ….but they should spare Thandiwe Michelle Obanda….she is our only youth representative in corridors of power currently dominated by our shikulus

  6. Wicthcraft is an abused and hugely underrated category of scientific technology. Long before the whiteman invented the aeroplane, the witch in Africa was already flying. Mainmstream science is still working out how to make a humn being invisible and how to teleport a human instantaneously. Witchcraft, on the other hand, is already teleporting humans. You have guys travelling from Lilongwe to Kitwe in a second! You have guys moving invisibly and managing to suqeeze between closed doors and their door-frames!! Now, that’s something!

The difference between science and withcraft is science shows us the experiments and the results. Witchcraft is all about hearsay and fear. If witches could fly and disappear don’t you think they would be flying to china , dubai, england and america? And even so how come these witches are always the most dustiest looking people , i am yet to see a known witch driving a posh car

  8. witchecraft does then why can’t these guy get rich)) or bewitch Bush and get if money) or guess where OSAMA is hiding and get 1 m$ reward))

  9. Ba banton it’s only a few misguided people who fear Sata who are praising the villagers “good sense”. Most of us are pa bwato… And others pa Hasn’t a Hope…

  10. Witchcraft is REAL. I’m from Salem, MA the world capital of witchcraft. They are 2 different worlds the spiritual world and the normal world we live in. Though in the spiritaul world not everyone has access to getting there.

  11. The government should make witch hunting a criminal offense and anyone found guity should be locked up for a minimum of 15 years with hard labour. It will stop this witch hunting nonsense which seems to be targeted at elderly defenceless people. Education is the key plus investment in better health centres in rural areas. Some rural dwellers always claim its witchcraft when somebody dies from cureable illnesses even they are forgetting that politicians who are supposed to inspire development of health centres are not doing anything. Who are the MPs for Lukulu district? There is need to create employment opportunities in rural dwellers so that people become more productive.

  12. #37 Anonymous in fact under that Laws of Zambia, witch hunting is a criminal offense (under the Witchcraft Act)

  13. #38 If witch hunting is already an offense then the law needs to be enforced on the law breakers. Police need to do their work. The government can also take up long term measures by educating people commiting these crimes that it is an offense. Community radio stations can help in deseminating vital information over huge areas more easily. I’m not sure if there is a community radio station in Lukulu district. Other measures like community watchgroups can be set up plus regular community meetings to discuss matters must also be encouraged.

  23. Why does #9, lady Chiza’s legs complain about LT and yet she is one of the first people to comment. Get a life woman. At least LT is keeping us informed rather than waiting for ZNBC who would give us a story after one week.

  24. Thats why these Lozis never -visit their home town or villages once they taste town life. I have a Lozi friend of main who says he cannot visit western province because they may be-witch him. So just understand the Lozis in terms of witchfinding and witchcraft.

  25. #73 Ba Chisenga
