A police officer at Mount Makuru Police station committed suicide after shooting dead his superior.

Police Service spokesperson, Bonnie Kapeso confirmed the incidence which happened around 22:30 hours last night to ZANIS in Lusaka.

Mr. Kapeso said Constable Luckson Mutena shot Officer In-charge, Vincent Miyoba before turning the gun on himself.

He also explained that the Officer In charge had gone to Mutena’s house to find out why he did not report for night duty.

When Inspector Miyoba got to the house, Mutena came out and shot him, before killing himself.

  1. What is really the Motive? I just can not understand!! Is there any information that the Police gathered from the relatives? 😮

    Someone should know more !!

  2. Sometimes too much ganja weed is no good.. The officer just went to find out why he did not report for duties..the rest is history. Aweee, I still repeat myself.. life is too short.

  3. 10. Cutey

You are right!! That is why I just freak out sometimes pa LT but I will try hard not to freak out coz some people are mad at moi !! l-)l-)

  4. There is something bigger behind all this. Dont believe the HYPE ! He cant just squeeze and burst like this. There is probably something that has been going on for some time, most likely with the Bwana.

  5. Yangu umupamba mwebantu,i hope tapali awalekwesa imbwebwe yamunankwe pali aba babili, coz ma suicides ya this days are mainly due to fwaka or matters of the heart,a very sad incidence indeed :((

  6. There is nothing sad about this incidence. What is sad is that in Zambia any police officer is allowed to handle a gun. That is not right. It is not every police officer who should be authorised to handle a gun.
Police officers who handle guns should be trained to do so. This is not the first time incident to occur. In fact it is commonplace in Zambia for police officers to open fire and kill at will.
My advise to the relatives of both cops is that they should sue police inspector General for gross negligence. People in the compounds are shot like animals by police.

  7. No. 15 you say: “Police officers who handle guns should be trained to do so”.

Suppose all police officers are trained to handle guns, which i suppose is the case in Zambia.

  8. No 15, Zambia is not like Britain. All Police men and women in
Zambia are trained to handle guns. Please do not be brain washed
and compare Zambia standard to developed U K standard.

  9. The Officer in charge was wrong to go to constables house in the night. He has powers to summon his juniors to his office. I suspect there has been something going on .

  10. cutey you are right i think it was some juvi working or maybe ni ka gelo….because these guys exchange chicks especiály senior officer taking over junior officers chicks..

  11. Jamaco #4, you are right they must be information that is been hidden. Office matters should be done at the office. Not ifyakung’anda. Emo mufwaila bamuka mwine!

  12. #18 I think ale mulila umukashi nga ali pa ‘Beat’ junior buju. Why insist on night duty ? Ale lya kapala ! /:)

  16. Was the junior officer married? If the junior officer was married and supposed to be on night shift, then the wife to the junior officer has some vital information. The Officer in-charge might have been playing around with the junior officer’s wife. It is very rare for an officer in-charge to leave his station and follow a junior who has not reported for duty. He could have sent one of his surbodinates. It is all adulterous and I think the junior officer could not take it anymore. Abuse of office. Anyway, this is just speculative thought. But it is all really sad.

  17. I can not wait to hear the truth of the matter to this sad situation before I pass my comments my heartfelt condolences to the orphans and widows if any

  18. #40 I know all this is speculative but I am inclined to go with your reasoning. People don’t just shoot their boss and then turn the gun on themselves. Also, as you have mentioned, what was the boss doing going to this guy’s house on his own? Don’t they have cell phones?

  19. 40 & 43 you are on to something there. What’s more is that lower ranks policemen do not keep guns at home as it is all kept at the station. When one reports for duty they are issued with a firearm and a specified number of bullets that must be accounted for if used via a report. The Officer in Charge has at his disposal all the police constables whom he could send to find out why the chap had not reported for work but possibly he had an hidden agenda. That is how Kachepa starts – unvarifiable stories like mine here loaded with assumptions

  20. No # 15 when was the last time you were in Zambia. or should I ask what you know about the Zambian Police? I have friends in Zed police officers every Policeman in Zed is trained to handle a GUN. Guys lets visit Home from time to time, its good for your healthy.

  21. its tricky… its WEED! or did the bwana truly follow the guy for duty or probabably thought the guy was out on duty already hence the opportunity to sneak in his house for something else???

  22. #24,
    that could be true..

Why follow someone at this home nga teshile ku ncito???

This story before us is incomplete and half baked

  23. No matter being a boss how can you go home to your join at 2230.police & other armed forces needs unions to iron out issues. The boss whatever reason going tothe join was ill planned.corruption adultery camps will not end.lets hope they are not fighting in spirit.the wifes of the deceased needs interogations.

  24. sad.

But kwaliba boss going home to check employee-ni ku market monga no one is manning the stand? That is why there are cellphones

  25. He shot at his Officer in Charge later realised that he has committed murder which attracts a death sentence under the the Zambian laws and took his own life. The officer was not courageous enough to think of standing trial for murder and rot in remand prison before a death sentence would be handed down to him.Useless cop. Im sure he is now regretting in the botomless pit.

  26. #21 Ba Maureen…’BUJU’ alakale word nayumfwilepo iyi zo-ona. Words like these and ‘Sakalanyongo’ make feel proper Zedian!!

  27. Why did the officer in charge follow him Home? is that the procedure? if someone absconds from work is it for the boss to follow him home? this is in no way a justification for the deaths but an effort to establish the relationship that existed between the two.

  28. The two police officers are dead, yes but where the shooting happenend LT report & the daily papers have different accounts. Can LT clarify this. Talk to friends & relatives, this thing happened early last nite, you mean there is no more news to be added to the story. Come on Zed Jurnalists be investigative. When are we going to reach CNN’s Christian Armanpour’s or Al Jazeera level??? U just seat & wait for news. Go to Gaza and Afghanistan. ala. we need news.

  29. Fellow bloggers i suspect there is more to this story than what has been reported. In the first instance since the policeman did not report for work, where did he get the gun.Does it mean that off-duty policemen keep the guns at home? Ofcourse not….. The guy i think reported for work, got the gun and was at the police station when his boss excused himself and went to the juniors home to fu..ck the wife.the officer then followed his boss and found him at his place and thats how he fired……..

  30. wait and see its probably a love triangle, the army ,the police are fond of killing each other when they find themselves in this predicament.

  31. #60, Research Scientist you are a genius man. You qualify to be a forensic scientist. Did you watch the BONE COLLECTOR by D. Washington and A. Jolie. What you say makes perfect sense and thats what happened, only novices will argue. If Zambia was full of people like you, we would have moved man chiiii!!!. I rest my case.

  32. Is it ethical/in order for the officer incharge to have gone to his junior to find out why the constable didn’t report for night duty? The way the system works is that; if the constable did not report for duty, a charge is raised. So why would the officer incharge take it upon himself to go find out Kunganda. Office matters are dealt with ku office. Nkani yakumbondi nayeve isiyana

  33. Rightly so #40, too much wife sharing in Police camps and Barracks. The Officer-In-Charge probably thought the chap had gone for Night Shift only to fall in his trap and got smoked!

  34. office matters are dealt with for sure at the office. The “boss” myust have been sleeping with the junior officer’s wife and he has paid for it.

  35. There is more to it than just not reporting for night duty and why was he keeping the gun at home?office matters are solved at the office,an sure there is a procedure to follw if one has not reported for duty, ofcourse it doesnt include going to his home, can the police authorities investigate this case and prevent such from happening in future

  36. Sad news again . there is more to this tip of the ice beg , imformation.
    lysahi lya banaksahi.
