Tanzania coach Marcio Maximo has named his squad for the Caf Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) that will be held in Cote d’Ivoire from February 22 to march 8.
The Brazilian-born coach is the first trainer to name his final team from Group A that comprises Zambia, Senegal and hosts Cote d’Ivoire to name their final team for the inaugural CHAN tournament ahead of the team list deadline on February 14.
9 of the 19 players named to the list are from defending champions Young Africans while 4 come from their archrivals Simba.
The team is expected to leave for Abidjan on February 19 but before then face Zimbabwe on the 11th in a friendly match.
And Zambia coach Herve Renard returned to coaching duties today in Lusaka after boycotting CHAN training camp last week due to what he termed as personal reasons.
10 out of 25 players called to camp turned up for Wednesday opening day of training in Lusaka.
Meanwhile, Senegal have scheduled a friendly against Cape Verde on February 8 as part of their CHAN preparations.
Senegal coach Joseph Koto has yet to name his final team ahead of next Mondays CHAN team list deadline.

I pity the Zambian team!!The coaches seem committed but lack of proper support by the pips at football house.I’m not 2 sure about the strength in depth of the Zambian team for the CHAN finals..That said,i can only wish them all the best!!

Katongo lights up Bielefeld

Zambian striker Chris Katongo is gradually beginning to make a difference at German Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld after taking home the Man of the Match award in a historic 2-1 win over Werder Bremen on Sunday.
Though stuck in the bottom half of the standings Bielefeld took the match by its throat with Katongo providing the assists for both goals scored by Thorben Marx and Artur Wichniarek.
Katongo played 90 minutes in that game.
Bielefeld assistant coach Frank Eulberg – formerly with Kaizer Chiefs – says Katongo is proving a valuable acquisition since his arrival in August last year.

Number 3 you are a joker as your name suggests, which sports team does not do physical exercises? Running, joggging etc? The Zambian players are small that is why the look weak.
FAZ should mete out disciplinary action on the coach before he resumes the reigns. We cant be subjected to his moods. He must know his obligations. Thats what he is paid for

This tournament is going to be very interesting as it will be full of small names and Zambia may spring a surprise. For now I have cooled down my head and wish the boys the best of the game.Team Manager Pandola don’t stuff the boys bags with your merchandise on your return trip.
