Names are pronounced different in different languages- English speakers say “Jeremiah” with a “J” and not with a “Y” like the original Hebrew due to the rules of the language. But that does not detract from the meaning of his name “YHWH exalts” and everyone knows whom we are referring to.

28. I have just received a request to join this little discussion. I have researched God’s name rather extensively.

    1) The fact that YHWH has no vowels is normal. NO Hebrew word or name contained vowels, because vowels did not exist in Hebrew until the second half of the first millenium.

    2) We do know how to pronounce YWHW, because of theophorics. The Jews would commonly imbed God’s name within the names of their children.

    I know what you are doing. You are simply speaking the name of each individual Hebrew letter. God’s transliterated name in Hebrew is made up of the four consonants: Yohdh he waw he.

    But that is false. ????? (Yô??n?n) CAN BE transliterated with nothing but vowels. But we do not say that ????? can never be translated into any other language with vowels included for pronunciation help and that it MUST ALWAYS be written with only vowels.

    “chesenga mutale” is a bad example, because it is a non-commonly translated name. Categorically stating that it cannot be translated is an error.

    The Hebrew ????? (containing a large part of God’s name) can be and is translated with vowels

    If I transliterated Russian characters into English (my tongue), I would still have no idea what the words mean. But if I TRANSLATED Russian into English, then I could understand what is being said.

    The last 3 letters, HWH(howah) do not change in the original languages whether you translate YHWH as Jehovah or Yahweh. So if Jehovah comes from a word meaning “ruin” and “mischief” or “disaster”, then so does Yahweh. The HWH comes from the verb HAYAH (1961, as even Strong’s will tell you). Now check the footnotes of any Catholic Bible, and they will tell you exactly the same thing. So what is the difference between 1943(hovah) and 1961(hayah) if they both contain the same hebrew characters? YHWH(Jehovah and/or Yahweh) uses the verb form HAYAH(1961) to define his name at Exodus 3:14. No respected theologian/scholar would say otherwise.

    I’ll just say this and get to bed: Transliterating Nyambe (for example) to Russian would be ??????. The reader would pronounce it the exact same way it is said in the original language. But if one wanted it translated for the MEANING of the name, they’d say “???” (meaning “God” or “Divinity”)
