Minister warns smugglers

Share

The Zambian Government has warned that it will deal with anyone involved in the smuggling of goods in and out of the country.

Home Affairs Minister, Kalombo Mwansa says smuggling of goods does not only deprive the government of revenue but is also a criminal offence.

Dr. Mwansa said his ministry has intensified patrols in all the major border areas in the country to curb smuggling.

He has however directed all government security wings to arrest people engaged in illicit trade.

And Dr. Mwansa told ZNBC news in Lusaka today that it is wrong for people to smuggle mealie-meal when the nation is in need of the commodity.

  1. Isn’t this a contradiction to what RB said yesterday in Malawi? Looks like this government is all over the map. Who are we to believe RB or the Minister?

  2. “He has however directed all government security wings to arrest people engaged in illicit trade.”

This is extremely funny. What is the Foreign Policy of the MMD as a Party and also government?

On one hand the Ministers K. Mwansa and D. Munkombwe are warning against selling (cash) of mealie meal to Zimbabwe and other countries while on another hand the Zambian President RB Banda is encouraging Zambians to sell mealie meal to Zimbabweans.

Who is representing the view of the MMD party among these 3 people, MMD government public officers for that matter?

    They will be grateful !!

    :d

  7. It is like people in Government don’t know what to say and when to say it. Zambia is now becoming a laughing stock where today the president says this, next day the minister will also say something to the contrary? Vote of no confidence!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Ka matworld so wat have u achieved by been an impersonator?
Bamfulwisha ba King Cobra kwi bange thread so am changing names.
    Meanwhile l-)

  9. 13 greetings and thanks.

On the Ministers and President RB Banda, i would like to advise then to stop talking too much and leave the Minister of Information and Broadcasting to deal with all issues of COMMUNICATION of any MMD GRZ issues to the public. This embarrassment the President RB Banda Administration is causing themselves is sad for a democratic Nation like Zambia.

I hope this will fall on listening ears.

  10. This is just a hint of what type of government we have….Mazi alo, matuvi yeka-yeka everywhere. now even lip service is differing among themselves. >-)

  11. Very good. So no mealie meal for our brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe. The Minister must be a true Zambian……unlike our president.

Hello Baby C, Maestro, Zoe, Jam@co, Miss Daisy, Matworld, Ka’doyo etc

  12. but these pipo, first Rb says that its ok to export goods to Zimbabwe because they are suffering, now they are saying they will deal with anyone taking the good out.lets gets things clear

  13. Pliz learn to be specifc as a polotician, Oh..sorry, as a politician
The nation doesnt need a commodity, it is the people of the nation….who was teaching these chaps English kansi?

  14. Doesn’t this minister know that nyama soya has allowed us to sale to our brothers & sisters in Zimzim.
These chaps should be saying things in one accord ,instend of making contrading statements .This just goes to show how bad our country is being run.

  15. #22. SISTER greetings and thanks. Impressive comment from you, but our President RB Banda is a Zambian by decent though not by birth – of which he must be Zimbabwean born. I hope the Zambian President RB Banda does not have dual Citizenship as the law entails.

Could someone, please check records to prove our President has only one Zambian Citizenship so that we avoid confusion that may come from various quarters of the public and media in Zambia and abroad.

  16. Thats business ..it is not criminal. Give them tax relief as well. Reduce the duty and vat. The economic is in recess so all should be exempted from tax. [-([-([-([-([-(

  17. How do you lead pipo like this? Ba President says this, ba Minister that! Then what do pipo do in this circumstance? Twafweni pliz.

  18. Interesting!!! any ways my advice to our leaders is if one including the presido has nothing to say its better to keep quiet than impress an audience. better talk about the tanzania meeting outcome or even the constinution making progress, what the highlights on fighting the GEM are e.t.c cos these are top priorities at the moment. The same happened during elections. people making promises without a hint or clue on how they will fulfil them. see now the GEM has put them in a quandary with nothing but excuses! shame.

  19. I am just coming from the copperbelt u should just have seen how this commodity is being packed and smuggled, its very disturbibg indeed.

Imigine i had to queue for a bag of mealie meal. now were are the law enforcement agents? and how many so far have been arrested?

Zambia is now going back wards shame!

  20. RB the ringmaster playing a different tune to the one his ministers used to. Hence both dancing wrongly. NyamaSoya says we sell to neibours where he was born in Gwada Zimbabwe, his ministers say no taking mealie meal cause we have a shortage. Well the circus continues. Hope he is back hope and gets grounded for sometime, Zed has issue to sort out and we need his imput not his fleeing from problems tactics

  21. :-?mmm ba mini star have you loked at wat is cozin da smuggling?umuntu alete 3 bottles of cooking oil ati smugling, educate people on boarder trade, import and export rights and duties then tok about smuggling, kuli ifwe ati smugler and yet u got your car and tv in the same way…

  22. And Dr. Mwansa told ZNBC news in Lusaka today that it is wrong for people to smuggle mealie-meal when the nation is in need of the commodity.

BUT BALATWANGASHA AMA BOYS ABA. JUST A STORY DOWN, RB IS TELLING US TO SELL MEALIE MEAL TO ZIMBABWE. IMWE BA FIPE?

  23. #6, spot on
They grab this tax money only to use it on malpractices and corruption.
I had an experience recently in Zedi whereby part of my luggage had to come as unacompanied luggage. There were only personal bits and pieces, and I mean bits and pieces and they told me to pay TAX as they said I was importing into Zedi. That was a big laugh, as I paid a hefty freight fee and this was supposed to come with me, only that it was slightly over limit buggage. eeh insapato neloba ko ati lipila , Na bebele at nala fifwita , the rest is history. :)>->:d<>:d<

  24. That will not be possible at NAKONDE border!! What I saw there was absolutely depressing…open border no control!! There its normal to smuggle, its not even called smuggling anymore 😮
