RB tells MMD to stop discussing the 2011 candidate

Share

President Rupiah Banda  has urged members of the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) to stop discussing matters pertaining to who would stand for party presidency for the 2011 presidential and general elections.

He said members of the MMD should instead concentrate on matters affecting the nation now.

The president was speaking upon arrival from his two day official visit of Malawi and Tanzania respectively.

Mr. Banda said it was too early for the party to start discussing the issue of the 2011 presidential elections when his administration was only three months in office.

He encouraged MMD party members to unite and start recruiting more members in readiness for the 2011 presidential general elections.

The president  also called on Zambians not to politicize the prevailing global economic crunch in order to win what he termed as cheap political mileage because the global economic down turn was a global phenomenon which needed a disciplined people for it to be addressed effectively.

The President further said there was need for Zambians to be disciplined in order to address the many challenges associated with the economic credit crunch.

President Banda  advised opposition political party leaders in the country to dialogue with him in order to resolve challenges affecting the economy of the country.

Mr. Banda observed that there was need for the political leaders to approach him and advice him on various issues in order to enhance development in the nation.

He said it was not necessary for politicians to concentrate on politicking at the expense of promoting programmes which his administration was implementing.

He has also described his visits to Tanzania and Malawi as successful saying he discussed a lot of issues affecting the region with leaders from the two countries.

The President has since called for enhanced cordial relations between the two countries with a view to enhance economic development in the region.

President Banda was accompanied to the two countries by Foreign Affairs Minister, Kabinga Pande, Transport and Communications Minister Dora Siliya, Energy and Water Development Minister, Kenneth Konga and his Political Advisor, Akashambatwa Mbikusita Lewanika, among other officials.

  1. Look the man is saying the should concetrate on national issues…is the MMd presidential candidature not a national issue?

  2. Let them discuss my dear. Don’t be like the late Levy who never groomed leaders and that is why you find yourself in that office. That was his failure. Surely, MMD offer someone for 2011.

  3. hello everyone, let the games begin.
#5 You are right but let him lead by example and stop these unnecesary trips… let him solve the many issues before rushing to be a champion on foregn policy.
Take a leaf from Obama these people got into office almost at the same time and obama is still in the country attending to the many issues affecting his country whilest our president has already made probably 5trips outside zambia…

  4. RB the tourist. trying to see places he might have missed out in his youth time. yah this man wasting tax payers money. he is calling for dialogue, when advice freely given he ignores it i.e. cayman scandle with dora on Zamtel, GM maizescandle , his sons involvement in scams so early. he has failed to take action nor offer leadersip.

  5. Why shouldn’t the next candidate be discussed? What is so taboo about it? Every president who comes in doesn’t like to discuss the future of the country. I think this is selfish. MMD just has to go.. enough of them already!

  6. # 2 You have nothing to write home about. Last time you guys were writing that there was something going between RB and CN. Now you have picked on Dora. When are you going to grow up. If you do that do not think everyone sinks so low.

  7. mmm RB knows that talks will reveal his failures and now calls off talk, nice tactics and considering the brain crunch in MMd rigght now balaunfwila :(|)
well tis about time we started thinking seriously who will lead mother zambia in the elections, wats wit dora and RB erections?:-

  8. Why not send some ministers to these countries and they reprt to him? Nigeria, Libya,Kenya , Ethopia, South Africa, Malawi, Tanzania, Na Ka Mfuwe in between. Nonsense

  9. A 70 yr old marries a 28yr old, hijacks mmd candidency, rigs elections, gives bribes, is corrupt, goes on holiday after working for one month and is busy touring countries, would I be wrong to call this person an excited old man. I need answeres mwebantu.

  10. “Mr. Banda said it was too early for the party to start discussing the issue of the 2011 presidential elections when his administration was only three months in office.
He encouraged MMD party members to unite and start recruiting more members in readiness for the 2011 presidential general elections.”
President RB Banda, there is a lot of contradiction in these two statements that you issued. Both are indicating about the campaign for 2011 elections but how came you want to put a ban on MMD presidential campaigns while you want to campaign for Country President and MMD forming GRZ in 2011.
Please, think before you ink or utter words.
Meantime, advise us what is your real Foreign Policy!

  11. 23. Ba Dr Maureen

    Gut danke!!

Hey where are the people sure? LT has been deserted!! The only thing that counts is to be numbala l-)

    and then they all leave!!

I hope Pastor J has not succeeded !!

With a population of about 10 Million!! Why is there little contribution pa LT? Is Internet really a problem pa Zed? My question is serious!!

    These are poor results!!

  12. We need to have sick guys run for presidency so that they die mid term and give a chance to others to rule. This is also very good because during elections is the only time politicians have a chance to visit the remote areas. The villagers will benefit from this a great deal from vitenges and other hand-outs not forgetting tu sugar. So all you half dead politicians take heed!

  13. Rb tekanya wi-amba ukutina, let them keep on having those dark corner meetings but meanwhile you should know that pa Z history just repeats itself,so you will be chosen so dont worry daddy ,niwebo.

  14. #25. input greetings. I hear you on Zambia have to have SICK GUYS, and probably GIRLS, to run for Zambian President. I think, old or very old MUST be desirable for Zambian President following your reasoning.
2 five year terms are just too much time for 1 person to lead us as a NATION of 12 million plus people.
We need as many by-elections for Zambian President as possible until such a time that our Republican Constitution will be fixed for the better so that it can stand a test of time.
To this end, I am proposing that the NCC reduces a single term of office for a sitting President to 3 years only instead of the current 5 years. The 2 Term clause can be maintained so that maximum is 6 yrs.

    28. your flag Maestro Hhehhehhehhe continued.

Also, issues of a Parliament having to recommend the Medical Board to assess the ability of an Incumbent President to continue serving in his capacity following concurrent sickness needs to be included in the New Republican Constitution without fail.

We need to be changing Presidents regularly by voting for MPs and a President every 3 years.

This is aimed for us to catch-up on the number of Presidents we would have had in 45 yrs now if we had a true democracy for this long time since getting political Independence as a NATION.

  16. no 28, unfortunately you are the only jew! BANA RBB is 28 yrs old. People have been talking about her age since the 2008 campaigns! She is not in her late thirties. Bufi!! Mwaiche first lady besu.

  17. What is our great tourist RBB trying to tel the nation? Help me pliz im behind,i thought he should be infront concentrating on matters affecting the nation and not touring the world.May be he has become the Inspector General! **==

  18. The issue of credit crunch might be a global phenomenon. Good leaders, around the world have gathered an army of wisemen and women to advise them on finding a solution. Globetrotting is not one of them mr. president.

  19. 31. your flag Anonymous greetings. Sorry to bother you but I have failed to connect why you are referring me t “BANA RBB is 28 yrs old”.

I hope your reference to my posting is wrong. If you don’t mind, please explain why you have written such to me.

    Kindest reagrds and keep well,

    Mugungulu Hamwaambwa MWAANGA.

  20. RB is right,
Why start discussing about 2011 candidature when not a single promise on their campaign trail has been solved at all??

Look what a mess the Mealie meal saga is. :)>-**==#:-s:-@

  21. Dont pretend as if you are not interested,we all know how MMd oparates Ba RB.Iam sure mumutima muleshana nokushana. :-j:-j:-j:-j

  22. Haa! Mr President, when can anybody advise you when you are always airborne to some other country outside Zed?

Check the record. You(RB) have broken the records of all your predecessors for travels in the first three months as President of the Republic of Zambia.Nobody has travelled or flown as much as you have done and I am very sure I am correct 100%.

You are enjoying your flying about whilst the people of Z are starving and that is why you don’t want anybody talking about replacing you in 2011. It is not too early bambo. Just face the people on the ground not air. :o:o:o:d:d

  23. I wounder where we are going next time. From what he siad its like saying dont talk about that position its main, the poor Zambian wont say anything about that but just wait for free shake shake and a GRZ post. LIFE GOES ON NI PA ZED MUDALA 😮

  24. I have never heard off a president who goes in and out of his country just after assuming power visiting neighbouring countries whos presidents have never even visited Zambia for the pursose of RB. I think RB should be in our country making plans of solving our economical problems, its far much better to for RB to visit provinces in zambia coz thats where pipo need him most.
Can Rb pliz get examples from young leader OBAMA.

  25. Thats typical of zed politics. What surprises me is that all these presidential trips bring no benefits to the ordinary Zambian. I very much agree with you # 43 Dr. DEE and I expect RB to work hard by implementing what he was preaching during his campaign. Can anyone explain to me the significance of including party cadres on these tours please!!!! I might be off the loop, but i thought it is gross mismanagement of public funds. The cadres I am told, spend most of their time shopping and drinking while the president is with his counterpart. What a disgrace! Madam Auditor general, will you please audit responsible authorities.

  27. Our God, We thank you for having given us this mighty land of the Zambezi. You have given us plenty of natural resources from which we can generate our income as a country. We have a very good climate, abundant rivers and fertile land. Lord I do not understand why we have water shortages, load shedding and shortages of mealie meal. Lord why does it have to take a farmer from a foreign land to successfully farm the land.Lord I do not understand why our country is so dirty and full of dilapidated buildings and pothole ridden roads.Open our eyes so we can see where we have gone wrong.Lord when our leaders travel abroad, give them eyes to see the beautiful infrastructure in other countries,Amen

  28. What is he scared of? This is infact the right time.Even the MMD Presidential candidacy affects the nation. We need the right material now, unlike chancers or we shall vote for Sata and ensure no one rigs the elections. What has RB done from the time he was ushered into office? NOTHING. He is just busy gloabal trotting.

  29. Mulongoti must GO. Mulongoti must go. Fire Mulongoti and prosecute him for his election bribes which he admitted. RB act or else the under_educate will take full advantage of you. Fire Mulongoti tomorrow.

  30. others can be deciplined while he can manipulate zedians through his sons and the GMO’S and Zamtel, what a leader zambia has today. HIM CAN TRAVEL NON STOP TRIPS WHILE OTHERS NEED TO REMAIN DECIPLINED.

  31. I HAVE NEVER HEAD ANY PLANS FROM RB THAT WOULD IMPROVE CURRENT ECONOMIC PROBLEMS IN ZAMBIA. MINES ARE CLOSED, THE KWCHA IS LOSING VALUE NOE TRADING AT 5,200. THE MAN IS JUST MOVING IF NOT WONERDING ABOUT. HE DOENT KNOW THAT HE IS SUPPOSED TO DO AS PRESIDENT. DO WE HAVE TO START QUING FOR MEALIMEAL HONESTLY?

  32. This corrupt man! the other day he told the nation that his son had nothing to do with the importation of GMOs, but we hear now from FRA that his son (his family)is involved in this scandal. It is good that ACC has cornered the director of FRA.
IT IS CORRUPTION ALL THE WAY. Malabbish

  33. But you Rupiah sure…how can people concentrate on issues that affect them when you Rupiah have decided to be touring the world instead of attending to meali-meal and Zamtel scandals which are more urgent

  34. Hai pipo. just having Full Breakfast (at home) and not John Sina na Zigolo, which is rare in Zambia. will join u later. thanks for understanding.

  35. Mwebekalachalo banandi mwe! Ukubwatabwata fye, takuli no kusombolapo ichilichonse.Ukusombola fye ilya kwna mwenge. Malyashi yanga eyo mwasabailapo eyo aba ba mukukulu ba konkapo? Ichibote bane.

  36. RB was elected on the promises he made to the people of Zambia. Therefore, he should not turn to king Cobra and Hachi for advice on how to make the country’s econmoy tick. If they do that, they are giving him an advantage over them when 2011 comes around. RB use your brains and do what you pomised to do for the Zambians NOW, not what Sata or Hach could have done. MMD wake up and govern, do not ask opposition to do that for you. If you can not rule vacate office call for fresh elections ala!!

  37. The president should be grounded, until he sorts out the many challenges affecting the country. With the world financial crisis, the country can ill afford to continue wasting the meagre resources on presidential trips. What ‘enhanced cordial relations’ is he talking about? I thought LPM did all that? Besides, he could have met his collegues on the sidelines of the just ended AU summit in Ethiopia. We all know about TAZARA, TAZAMA, from primary school civics. What is new? His advisor AKA can do better than this.

  38. R B is a tourist, he’s usually out so he’s scared dat if pipo discus de presidency in his absense, he have no room 2 bribe 4 his candidature

  39. #55,
iyo kwena Ba Chewe na muponta sana,
abati tekwikalafye nga ba mwanalepete! kale naumfwilepo ishiwi iyi..
    mwansekesha all the same. =))=))=))

  40. How come we never hear details that come out of these official visits and doesnt he know what it means to delegate so he can attend to our numerous problems… MMD must pack, they gats no brains!

OMG, so RB’s wife is only 28:-w….hmmm

  41. o-+ Are you, yourself concentrating on matters affecting the nation now, or you are just moving up and down, like a homelss child (street kid)

  42. Watch this man, he is a sniper he wants to appear as though he is not interested; Thank God we have had our lessons- the kwacha, mealie meal saga and other challenges.

  43. RB will run the country for this year only, thereafter it will be campaigns for 2011 elections. Afterall he has won round one; to become president of the party, next round; to consolidate his position by removing opposition like Magade: round three, being “appointed” or declaired MMD candidate for 2011. He is too busy travelling. :(:(

  44. As Zambians we are reaping what we sowed during the election which brougt this NYAMA SOYA into power. The difference between African politics and European politics is that, African politicians become bosses when elected to power while Europeans politicians become servants to their people, I live in Europe and it hurts to read about how our country is run by these selfish politicians. Please vote for someone with brains in 2011 or u will continue suffering.

  45. PLS SPARE US THE NONSENCE…PLS COME OUT IN OPEN AND TELL THE NATION YR STANCE………..WHY KEEP QUIET…….YU ARE A SHAME INDEED.. CAN’T U TAKE A LEAF FROM rsa leader?

  46. Nyama Soya is a moving time bomb. Look at his face, he needs to lose weight or else it will be another state funeral (:|

  47. Trying to shut up those who challenge you is a significant sign of COWARDS AND FAILURE.
Now RB put your legs together when sitting during your many trips, stop waering underpants in public during your holidays u r an embarrasment, the handouts and vests with your hopeless massive face that u gave to villagers need review before people die of poverty and mosquito bites.

Wake up, put your head together RB and do what people put you in office for. Dont tell peopel what not to say because u are simply inducing your palpitations! hopeless!

  48. Its a pity that you Zambians did not heed the timely warning by the Post. Surely you have only yourselves to blame for the nyama soya mess! Rupiah is certainly not the right ingredient for presidency. He is some selfish corrupt old man, next time around vote with your brains and dont be misled by someones so called age of maturity and so on and so forth.

  49. This chap will go down in history as the worst president the country has ever had. And, I’m sorry to say, it’s all late Mwanawasa’s fault!

  50. #31 Bana RB is 36years she will be 37years this year we used to be together at school in kitwe for crying out loud. Anyway whats wrong with her getting married to an elderly person leave her alone she is enjoying being a first Lady which you or your sisters wont ever enjoy in your life time.

    6.Two opposition party presidents
Flight return tickets, accommodation, food and other allowances where paid by the Zambian government to attend the very important summit=d>

  53. no 55, please use English so that we can all read your contribution, Bemba is simple to speak but not to read. Mr RB is trying to get as much notice from other presidents as possible before the end of his term. I have never heard of a president who is always out of the country, nearly weekly he is on the flight. Instead of him sorting out national issues like, the economy in general, national airline, famine, medication in hospitals, water issues ala its everything, that need to be attended to. Worst still he carries his ministers along. He doesnt want people to talk about 2011, he knows he is not doing anything at the moment but just to stand in for someone coming soon.Watch the space
