A British National has been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission-DEC- in Lusaka for trafficking in 14.6 kilograms of cannabis.
Margret Kirby, 69, a teacher at Lusaka’s Baobab College was arrested after DEC officers conducted a search at her house in Rhodes Park.
DEC Public Relations Officer, John Nyawali, confirmed the arrest in a statement to ZNBC news in Lusaka.
Mr. Nyawali said Ms. Kirby will appear in court on Friday 27th february for mention.
And the DEC has also arrested a prison warder at Lusaka Central Prison along with a convict for trafficking in 12 balls of loose cannabis weighing 3.6 grammes.
Jimmy Mulenga 32, was picked up following the arrest of the prisoner who was found with cannabis hidden in his pockets.

That don’t look like weed in the pic
Looks like some very dried vegetables
It looks like pretty good bud to me. Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania have some of the best and most unique weed in the world.
# 1.1 that is brown tomalin, ikali!
Likali ili brown, look at the seeds ni one pull nenseko kwisa and you have an experience of wanting to dance and ukusunda at the same time
It’s called Skunk , it’s very potent
Some in Britain call it ‘skunk’, but that is just streetslang. This is what I would like to call African Haze. Which is what it is most like, but African strains are very unique and electric. Or so I’ve heard. :->
Zoona ai aka ni ka vala mutu
Ndobo nikundala kusecondary.
Free the weed. There is no rational reason why cannabis or hemp should be illegal to own or grow. Certainly not as long as alcohol is legal, which is far more damaging to your health. In fact aspirin is more dangerous than cannabis.
You are right my dear.
Honestly wat can a 69 year old woman do bad with weed? Lets be serious with the way we treat elerly pipo.
This story is suspicious in many ways. It does not say where and when she allegedly “trafficked” the wonderful herb also known as cannabis sativa. Please let the old lady go.
i agree it does indeed sound suspicious, on the other hand though she could be covering for someone and think that because of her age , they will let her go free. if thats the case, azadabwa.
Nina Chale u ar right this story is missing more contents especially what lead to an inspection of the house for the person in question. The source should tell us more.
NO! this old lady should not go free, do you know who she is selling the weed to??? Probably to young boys and girls. Can you imagine what would happen to a 70 year old Zambian found with the same in England?? WORSE!
Smoke weed and fly!
Too bad for you madam.
Nkani yalula I was just reading Maiko Zulus ordeal in prison for 17 gramms of weed nomba iwe mayo kasaka. tizanvelako.
Nkani yalula I was just reading Maiko Zulus ordeal in prison for 17 gramms of weed nomba iwe mayo kasaka. tizanvelako. … I have not seen selling weed was it for export mwa?
14kg a woman of 69yrs for that matter. what was running through her mind? well she might serve the sentence in the UK as she wont survive in the zed prisons. uyu namayo tonfwa, honestly her age worries me…ba DEC balalya nankwe pound.
i an i em donya donya say herb is a herb, just a plant man.plant is good for many things.let them old lady recreate in a peace an smoke a cush.now ‘olla ana donya one o dem balls.
Matokwani mbanje dobo ni wonderful plant more useful compared to Mr chavuma water kachasu. just legalise it and watch the benefits.
this story is some how lame.lot of facts missing.just the let the lady go
How? The lady was found in possession so what lame are you talking about?
Sure this wont make headlines in Britain uless of course it was a zambian woman caught in Great Britain.BBC 24 would have had the same news for a week but because it is a musungu they will turn a blind eye…
Obviously this ain’t the first time…!!!
zungaz wa sebana. Finish
Lets see how many years she will get because the average cannabis seller in Zambia gets about 4 to 5 years hard labour. Seeing that she is a foreign national that also works for one the good paying schools , she will probably pay for her justice . In zambia justice is served to how much money you have the less you have the stiffer your punishment. 15 KG sounds like she was supplying and it was not for personal consumptions, I wonder if Baobab students were the ones that were buying hmm
These are cabages
Boma thru the Education Ministry should revoke some benefits that Baobab enjoys to teach them a lesson. Imbeciles coming to our country and passing off as expats should be dealth with.
Agree MoE should get involved but what concerns me is how much we check the background of muzungus claiming they are qualified teachers. Didn’t Boabab also have another case where a boarding master was sodomising some the older boys?
foreigners should be checked tharaly especially the so called exparts, exparts in cannabis rubbish,
take her to chimbokaela she should be fined all the money she was geeting paid from boabab should remain in Zed,
You are right, these characters should be thouroughly checked before they are given work permits!!!!!!!!!!
Likali elyo twalebaila ku chiwala pana chinena
I am for extraordinary rendition to a jail in Morrocco. Blindfold her, Gag her, frog march her there. Give them a taste of their own medicine. As for Boabab – just shows sending our kids to those schools just because there are muzungu teachers does not pay.
I reaslly also feel the story is missing important information, how was the weed traficked? From all people why her?Ther should be a connection somewhere. May be its not hers could be for one of her sons if she has some at home or who occasionally come to visit her? May be if its is hers its for making indian Hemp for the hair ?If they want to arrest her may be they should do like Maiko Zulu she should be teaching her students that drugs are bad. Or just let her go she is an older woman.Come on guys.
You can’t get the pure strain marijuana seed in zed those probably have 25% potency of the tetrahydrocannabinol(THC).
So te likali ku states ukusangwa ama pure strain varieties of cannibis hence ayakali, ngalifumine ku UK kulyabalikali
LT let me complain,From the time you changed the system or should i say you upgraded your site. The number of comments has reduced, your numbering of comments is not in order.Yesterday i tried to comment but you indicated that i had been banned from viewing your site. What wrong have i done? What is happening?
Chewe, How are you doing my good friend.
Lt should consider the negative response from the bloggers. It simply suggests that the site is not user friendly as before and something shoud be done before we lose more bloggers. Not even the tribalist UMUWELEWELE has been able to post esssay type of comments.
Ya i agree with you luapula fish,in life most of the things if not all have a negative part just like when someone sees a head on a coil it does not mean it has no tail, so ba LT let democracy be at play on this site and accept even comments that you wont agree with as it will give room for other bloggers to reasses their own view point and also to condemn by constructive critisimsm
If Maiko Zulu only got a six month suspended sentence for the same offence plus illegal possession of firearms, why should this lady get 5 years? The law must be fair to all in this so – called country of laws and not men !
Maiko is a celeb. We dont know this nkotizo
kaleza spot on!
Well, it does not really matter much even if we have not been given the full info about this lady, but the fact is that, she is a teacher at Baobab and found in possession of marijuana. Its simple every person knows that its a crime in Zambia to deal i that substance just like many other countries in the world including her own country UK. She must face the consequences of the law jus like any other person. I just hope this woman will be dealt with according to the law and sent to Jail in the same manner like other people. They are the same people denting the picutre of our country, if it were a Zambian in UK arrested for such, it would have made headlines just to spoil our image. Shame!
AMEN! And at her age she really should know better. 16KG not grams is a big crime anywhere in the world but for anyone to offer her some kind of special treatment because she’s white in Zambia would be even more criminal.
If she is a user, considering her age, she would want to buy weed in larger quantities once-off. She is too old to start hunting for herb on a daily basis.
Youre right , maybe its difficult for her to move from Rhodespark all the way to Chilenje just for a few balls of dobo
where in Chilenge do they sell blunts, there is no one in chikoleka now days selling weed
Ku chilenje kwatalimpa, pa chilulu garden ilipo ikali nayo
Dobo has got no age limit
Zambians are sick in the head. The sickness We suffer from is over awe of the white man. or in this care white woman. regardless of her age this woman was hoarding 16kg of an illegal substance in her home. she broke the law and should be dealt with accordingly. Her case is incomparable to maiko’s because of the big quantity. so what if she was just holding the drugs for a friend she still willingly committed a crime.
Marworld Nice guy uli shani boyi? I have missed you so much.Today am starting a long journey of looking for Sarah Jones.
Good hunting. Most people have upgraded. What scares me is that I can befriend INFECTED MEAT ! Just as well Ingombe Illede (Maestro) has maintained his name !
at 69 pipo still do drugs? hey this granny also… isnt she too old to work still
Maiko Zulu (aka st michael) the musician got 6 month suspended sentence for a similer offence last week, lets see what the sentence will be for the muzungu… good test for zambian law
14kilos heh kenzo baela ka mbuya ako elo nayeve blaunn! iliko bad
legalize chamba and grow it in chamba valley
The things in the picture look like what the Zulu people call imphepho for chasing Tokoloshi. I am very worried about Zambian teachers just last week it was a couple of teachers doing yakubuyo dance, then a Kafue teacher lodging in dilapidated class room, and now a teacher from an (upmarket/affluent) school with Chamba
Hmm, i wonder if she teaches those kids while shes high. i personally think if someone smokes weed and still behaves, it should not be an issue..Poor old lady with so much ganja, she should come to SA, you smoke with the officers and they leave u in peace.
this lady will go scot free knowing the weaknes of the zambian law, especially that nimuzungu, ala landa fye aka sungu akasuma batinenokutina.
The conservative Brits were not impressed with the South African crew’s alleged continued drug trafficking and especially bringing ze canabis into their country! I wonder what they gotta say then about zis and the Venezuelan case? South Africans are even bracing themselves for visas into the UK.
Send her in now.
Number 37’s not from anonymous but from Princess-y. The gran thought she would not be suspected. She probably caused her maid/houseboy to spill the beans. You know when you are ill treated by the missus. Ati anya azachiona!

nshi mupele naine umufuko webange bane!
It is for her personal use, hopefuly the courts will consider that.
Iwe 14Kg for personal use??? Not even ba Bob was consuming so much, maybe Jah Cure & Capleton together with Jah Mason. LoL
Prisoner got arrested? …….DEC should search all premises, I’m sure even somewhere in State House there is weed!!! Probably even growing there!!
Maybe it was for chasing vibanda you never know
Firstly, ilemoneka bwino ibange. It must be grade A type. 14.6Kg is alot of stuff. I hope she wasn’t selling it students. Let her face the law.
mmhh i’m sure the police does not have to release details of how they caught her and all that, if this is all the info the police give LT thats what they can give they can’t talk more about it if its in the police’s hands. My bet is she was ganjalizing some students, i knw these kids with moni it was a part time job, maybe a parent caught their kid n they were asking from where he obtained this substance, this tings happen just that they r more hush hush but i’m sure police have reason to arrest her n it wasn’t just a coincidence nor was it for personal use 15 kg of grass (guys a bag of weed aint that heavy so u can only imagine the actual amount
I hope that she has not been peddling dagga and other drugs to her pupils. In fact, she may have accomplices amongst the other Baobab College staff. They should all be probed by the DEC.
Mulibe nkani bane…lekani ka nkote kapepeko chamba ati ni mulandu..pa zed che
????????????
Dies ist die alte Dame ridiculous.Let genießen ihr Marihuana.
It has turned out that it was 14.6 kg of dried pumpkin leaves that the DEC found in her kitchen. Initially the police also thought they had found 25 kg of cocaine …. until they realised it was mealie meal.
Police must have been starving…or on WEED!!
Luapula Fish am good my friend and how are you? Missing you,are you still mubwato? You people just leave the poor old lady alone.
Weed is life, just face reality.
#13 I agree with you. Am here in England at the moment, any crime committed by a black muntu isblown up. Let her languish in chimbokaila for some time..I see she would soon appear in court when our own who committed the sae crime years ago have there cases not yet started. My uncles in the village grow it to give the strength in the fields..but they are arrested and thrown in for a long time..why not her. Let her get the usual still under investigation bureaucracy to keep her longer there
Ha ha ha ha ha- kwena na dabwa!!
at her age- dealing?? thats some funny business!!
16 kg’s is definately not for personal use!
plus that picture on the LT is not weed thats Skunk man, it looks like white diamond in fact! check those crystals! thats some good dro right there!
ha ha ha ha ha ha
How did they even know that the old lady is a Dobo user. please, can someone tell me how the Dobo was recorgnised.
That Briton should face our Zambian law just like Zambians who have commited various offences in the UK had fair trails and convicted accordingly. What is amazing is the amount of Chamba she was found with. I am sure there are alot of others involved she just became a victim of betrayal. How was the old lady managing to get all that stuff alone. There are pipo who were bringing to her and I guess they had some differences and one just called or tipped DEC about the whole thing to fix her. I hope Zambian authorities will not commit her to a community setence like was case with another male Briton who served setence at Immigration HQ, Kent House cleaning. I reamin here for your comments.
sounds like a case of betrayal, she probably refused to give someone a cut! she will buy herself out of jail! you know how corrupt our govt/police are!
ka weed che!!!!! nabakulu kansi
dobo ikali. let the zambian law act upon her. she is just too old.
let the court decide
I see nothing wrong with marijuana it is a herb. Just because the whites told you that it is illegal. you also follow. don’t be mislead it is a pain killer.
drugs,when will it ever end!!
I think the answer to that is – it never will. There are thousands of plants that have a psychedelic effect, because these substances in many cases are very close to chemicals the body makes itself, like serotonin. Cannabis has been smoked for 1000s of years, has not known toxicity and does not clog arteries like alcohol (a ml of alcohol has the same number of calories as a ml of fat). 1000s of plants (and animals like toads – hence the fairytales) contain versions of DMT. The santaclaus myth is a based on the amanita muscaria mushroom. There are psilocybin mushrooms of all kinds. So ‘drugs’ are here to stay, because they’re throughout nature.
Hmn, we need to wake up! you cant have someone like that teaching your kids – but because she is a muzungu she wouldve been treated with a lot of respect – check her qualifications!! you will probably find she isnt a teacher and was fired from her shelf stacking job at asda in her native england, wake up people of zed!
” you cant have someone like that teaching your kids ” Why not? Would you extend the same rigorous standard to anyone who drinks alcohol?
Ni zee.Two pulls two pulls
i was a student at Baobab College, and i know that baobab college is the best school out of fifteen schools i have been to, the teachers are so great i dont believe anything that they are saying to black mail the teachers and the school. i am proud to have been a baobab student. Baobab is the best school in Zambia, anyone will do anything to bring the schrying to do thatool down, i say to hell with all those people tha are saying that
The Cannabis that’s on the picture is good cannabis. Not the amateur Cannabis grown in Zambia;-)
