Civic Body advises politicians

Share

The Foundation for Justice, Integrity and Fairness (FAJIFA) in Northern Province has advised politicians to find better ways of resolving their differences than using the press to settle scores.

FAJIFA acting Vice President Evaristo Chongo said in Kasama that the recent attacks on the Presidency by expelled Mpulungu Member of Parliament Lameck Chibombamilimo and Katuba Constituency MP Jonas Shakafuswa were unfortunate.

He said the expelled duo should have found a better way of expressing their grievances over government’s action on them instead of making threats in the media.

Mr. Chongo has particularly challenged the former Energy Deputy Minister to go ahead and spill the beans if that was in public interest.

He further said it was wrong for Mr. Chibombamilimo to think that just because he used his personal resources to campaign for President Banda, then he cannot be disciplined.

Mr. Chongo said those serving in public offices should know that their positions where not personal to holders as they were meant to serve the interest of the people of Zambia.

President Banda relieved the two ministers of the duties in his administration for indiscipline. The President action was followed he ruling MMD National Executive Committee (NEC)expulsion of the two on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, FAJIFA has reacted sharply to a recent statement by a Clergy advocating for Chiefs’ participation in active politics as long as they had the necessary qualifications.

Mr Chongo said his organization was against chief taking part in active politics saying such a move will compromise their integrity.

He has since appealed to the National Constitutional Conference to include a clause that will bar chiefs from taking part in active politics.

Mr. Chongo observed that allowing Chief to participate in partisan politics will create a conflict of interest as they rule over subjects with diverse political affiliation.

  1. I agree entirely. I find it shameful to see our president being so emotionally ruffled by the likes of The Post. It seems obvious to me what the govt is up to but they can do it in a better way. Not that I support them, but at the moment it’s hard to distinguish which direction the country is going and who’s really in charge. And if I feel so worried as a Zambian investor, I can just imagine what the foreign investors think!

  2. Greetings to ya all Fellow Bloggers.
Mr. Chibombamilimo used personal resources to campaign for RB.
This actually reflects the attitude of a wide range of politicians in Zambia.
They hold a position thinking that they are on the seat because they put money down, and forgetting that it is the people who hold the power.
Some Politicians truly have a habit of looking at their position in government as a private business. That is why they indulge in corruption so that they can get back what they put in.
Politics at this level is a shame!!

Only in politics for the Money and the Fame!!

  3. Can we develop like this. Too man NGOs doing nothing but waiting for favours from govt? Let chibomba spill the bean. why so threatened by his statement???

  4. #7 Kambongolo..i totally agree with u.there are so many NGO’s pa zed, most of them hav no agenda apart frm waiting for favors frm the government..people jst run out of jobs pa zed and the first thing they think of its either an NGO or an orphange..this mr chongo man i dnt even know wat his FAJIFA or watever the name is does.awe mwee.

  5. There is a serious lack of coherence no both “The Foundation for Justice, Integrity and Fairness (FAJIFA) in Northern Province has advised politicians to find better ways of resolving their differences than using the press to settle scores” and “Mr. Chongo has particularly challenged the former Energy Deputy Minister to go ahead and spill the beans if that was in public interest.”
However, I am waiting for the data from Mr Chibombamilimo as this is health in a democracy. There is need for all Zambians especially political parties to know how the ruling party MMD conducts itself so that they can have a strategy for winning the 2011 upcoming tripartite elections.

  6. Aha!! So this is the beans Chibombamililmo wanted to spill??? he is still a silly and corrupt politician. Why didnt he spill this beans whilst he was in office?.
    His mind is contaminated.

  7. Mr. Chongo,
continue challenging Mr. Chibomba fimo fimo to tell Zambian masses about this itchy juicy Beans if there is more to tell.

  8. I thought RB fired these pipo thru the public media and whats wrong for the 2 gentelemen to use the media to react to what RB did? FIFA of FAJIFA, where ever you come from, have a balanced approach. Go ahead and tell RB that he should have used a better forum to sack those, mind you, these people were appointed honorably and no cadre was in the ground blowing whistles. these appointments were done in the special room in state house and with a dignified press conference, they were announced to the public that these are leaders. why not call for an adhoc cabinet meeting to relieve the duo of their duty than announcing just becoz some cadre said shakafuswa?

  9. Ooh so we still have wise people in Zambia. You’re right Mr. Chongo we need to see some work being done like building schools, upgrading colleges, hospitals, roads and creating jobs for zambians instead of giving everything to some Chinese contractors. Put a cap on the way the Chinese treat our people, enough of the slavery they come with. We had up to 1964 to have masters. No more fighting you cheap politicians, especially publicly, get to work.
