Nakonde Civil Servants demand for their hardship allowance

Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWU) in Nakonde in Northern Province have asked the  government to pay them their rural  hardship allowances.

Speaking in an interview with Zambia News an Information services (ZANIS), CSAWU district chairperson Mr Patrick Mumbo said the civil servants have called on government to urgently address this issue.

Mr Mumbo said since 1st April last year 2008 to date 2009 the civil servants have complained to say their have not received the allowances.

“We are appealing to government and other relevant authorise to quickly address this issue as soon as possible”.

He added that there has been some tensions in certain government departments due to the fact that the ministry of education has received its rural and remote hardship allowances.

Mr Mumbo said government should look into this issue as soon as possible because this is having a negative impact on the way workers are performing in terms of working.

He further said that government should consider them especially that this has been long over due looking at the period.

Mr Mumbo has said government and other relevant authorise should urgently look into this issue in order for civil servants to continue performing well in terms of their duties.

    • You are right Nine Chale. And we wonder why civil servants ask for maintenance fee when you want them to issue some important document.
Even at grass root level things are not in order. It is the people who pay the price in the end.
I wonder whose idea it was to name them “hardship allowances”. What is the background? Is it only paid when undergoing hard times in rural areas? How I wish they could just give it a proper name. Maybe someone can enlighten me on this one.

    • Ba Dr ndifye bwino. Hopefully the same applies to you after the severe blogging on the thread “RB pays tribute to former President Kaunda”

      Back to the topic

They may be suffering in silence just to get the allowances tefyo?

  1. Hardship allowance should apply to all Zambians and not only rural civil servants.
I think its about time the Zambian masses started to benefit from a ‘Unemployment Assistance’ program which needs to be put in place.
    Its never too late.
