Angry Choma stepmother blinds stepson

Share

A seven year old boy in Choma district has lost his sight after his angry step mother allegedly flung at him .

The named boy had his left eye brutally severed as a result.

His grandfather, Workson Sifutata, confirmed in an interview with ZANIS in Choma yesterday.

Mr. Sifutata said his grandson of Mwapona compound was allegedly brutally assaulted by his step mother while he was asleep in the house during the day.

He said the the boy was born in a polygamous marriage.

Sifutata explained that the boy’s biological mother was selling at the market at the time of the incident.

He said the assailant allegedly used a stone to injure her step child.

Mr. Sifutata said his grandson, Maurice, was admitted to Choma general hospital where authorities discovered that the left eye had been completely damaged in the assault.

He said the matter had been reported to police and the suspect had been arrested but released on police bond.

Mr. Sifutata said police had since referred the matter to the Victim
Support Unit but expressed worry at the pace at which the matter was being handled given that the boy had permanently lost his sight in the left eye.

He said he wants justice done because nobody was above the law especially that violence was perpetrated against an innocent minor.

The victim’s mother, Theresa Nafutata, 30, told ZANIS she believed
the first wife allegedly assaulted his son to avenge over their
differences in the polygamous marriage.

But police officer in charge, Victor Mateyo, told ZANIS in Choma that he was not aware of the report and promised to investigate.”I am not aware of this matter. I will get back to you,” he said.

However, a police medical report signed by doctors at Choma general
hospital availed to ZANIS indicated that Maurice had permanently lost his left eye in the assault.

“The eye is completely damaged. No sight,” reads the report in part.

  1. Some of these people deserve death how can one surely blind an innocent child,no matter what wrong the child did if at all, it’s does not justify this behaviour.I wonder why she is even out on bail? She has to be paying an amount of money to this child till she dies.

  2. Why refer a criminal case to VSU? Take the criminal to court to answer charges. The innocent boy what ever he did doesn’t deserve such kind of brutality.

  3. A lesson to all of us parents guardians do not react angirily when a child wrongs you. let us learn to exercise self restraint.

    • You are right fellow blogger. People ought to know how to control their emotions. Now am sure that she is deeply regretting her actions, with chagrin. being married to the same man does not in fact mean that she is enemies to the fellow wife, much less her children. The husband surely loves both of them. How long will she live with hatred?
The courts of law determine how grave her actions are.

  4. this is bad, eeh. i feel sorry for young boy. but where is the father in this story??? only mentions the grand? the father should also know something here..!!! Men a big problem, in these economic meltdown, some pipo are managing two/three wives??? ok,

  5. What a shame. Anything is possible in a polygamist family!! Poor boy so unfortunate that one can not chose their parents. Dear Lord help the boy.

  6. I am shocked that the father to this boy and husband to the two women is not mentioned anywhere in the report. Something is wrong with this man, may be he wanted to cover up this problem.

    • Thats the issue- the media always want to give negative portrayal of women. I do condem violence in strongest terms. But they should be balanced to reporting.

  7. Tongas also and their poligamous acrobatics, now they are even injuring babies so that only them can enjoy mitenya yamwa mabali. And Hachi thinks he can be president, atase, we do not want babies’ eyes gouged out in state house, pe!

    • This story is about child abuse and the problems faced by polygamous households. We should not reduce it to a tribal or ethnic issue. I am sure child abuse happens all over Zambia regardless of ethnic affiliation. We also do not have the background information relating to the incident. I am not trying to justify the despicable behaviour of the woman but I have witnessed how some men gang up on one of their wives in collusion with another co-wife to make a woman’s life almost unbearable. This is very common behaviour against the first wife. I think we need to get a better understanding of the background before we condemn.

    • I totally agree with you Mbala boy. You are very analystical and I can sense your gender sensitivity. Keep up the good spirit. Zambia needs people like you.

    • And you wonder why Zambia languishes in poverty after 45 years of independence. Its people like you who glorify plunderers of national wealth but go tribal when you can’t see beyond your nose. This is a national problem. Let us intelligently fight polygamy and child abuse by looking at the root causes, as the saying goes “u cant remove a speck in my eye while you have log lodged in yours”. Take this from a proud and honest Tonga…….the pinch of salt is up to you.

    • I hope the father to this child is not the Tonga Bull above. You Tonga bulls you are only ineterested in siring but not to look after your off springs. Shame on you!

  8. So sad that the mother has lost love for her step son.Police arrest this biich and sent her to prison where she belongs [-x

  9. Why shud u release her on police bond wen he child is in pain?I guess the same stepmother(witch) is barren and has never experienced any labour pains.PLEASE lock that thing, she dnt deserve to be free

  10. What a devil of a woman! Thats why sometimes i fear annoying my wife when its nearing bed time! Angakushokele ku tulo. You are busy dreaming that you are having a hot bath, meanwhile she is pouring hot water on your fimo fimo!!

And the officer in charges’ response to the issue, is no different from RB’s responses to Zambias political issues. Twachu

  11. May be polygamy should be outlawed in Zambia.
It’s possible that the polygamous husband is not treating this wife well. What has happened to the boy is an indirect result of the deep anger in the woman. Who caused this? Most likely the husband. Polygamy could be the root of all this.

  12. We need to adopt some laws from our somalian brothers. What rage would drive a mother in her capacity to pounce on an innocent sleeping young soul.Is Zambia that cruel? Please just poke her eyes out too! Some christians out there must be thinking how evil i’m but the fact still stands, the boy will always have one eye.And the debris of emotional comflict and vulnerability(volatile),imparted rage and lost psychotic balance will forever create a time bomb.God bless the boy and allow him to live through this odeal and live to be strong.

  13. Well this is another sad development, that woman is a danger to kids out there! The woman is not fit to be among other people as her behaviour is dangerous. Tit for tat people, she has to lose one eye too or put away from society for the rest of her life. We need progressive people in society not dangerous ones. Ninjala olo chani kansi ku choma kwameneuko?

  14. Such mothers are not suppose to be left scotfree, let her face the law, why revenging on an innocent chap, mungwileni ba Police mambala.
