The Centre for Elections and Governance (CEG) Zambia, has appealed to the lead political parties in the country to put their differences aside and use the proposed national indaba as a platform to find solutions to the challenges that the nation is facing.
CEG trustee, Gershom Musonda, said in a statement released to ZANIS that there was need for the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD), United Party for National Development (UPND) and the Patriotic Front (PF) to take keen interest in the indaba and discuss national issues.
Mr. Musonda said the indaba would accord the citizens through their representatives an opportunity to express themselves and ensure that the government responded to their needs.
Mr. Musonda said the indaba would also give government an opportunity to explain how best it was trying to meet the aspirations of its citizens especially at a time when the country’s economic status was being threatened by the global financial crunch.
Mr. Musonda said issues such as the need to have electoral reforms and promotion of human rights among other things needed the input from the stakeholders to succeed.
He advised organizations and political parties against issuing negative statements about the proposed indaba.
He has however suggested that the meeting should be chaired by independent individuals for effective dialogue among the political parties and other stakeholders.
Mr. Musonda commended government for its intentions to hold the national indaba saying dialogue is cardinal in the democratic governance of the country.

Aha that is not possible. Not in Africa! Well tried though!
Do not demonize Africa, there is always room for change ,even in industrialized countries ,it took many years of hard work to be where they are politically.
After all these years things should have improved by now. After all these years of having learned people in offices things have actually got worse. Trust me, after seeing what has pappened to kafupi, RB should only be a “tool” to be sent to prison for corruption. That is what you get in my continent I am afraid. The difference is our hard work counts for nothing.
Bo Wiseman,
Room for change in Zambia after 44 years backpeddling, mud-slinging and political mouthfulling?
Too much power hungry in Zambia. Zambians have been hoping against all hope for the better for too long and are now giving RB a benefit of doubt as they have done before. Its a political circus and song.
Its time to sit down and analyse what has been done the last 44 years, learn from the mistakes, improve on those mistakes and maybe a way forward can be paved.
Greediness is a political disease. Not only in Zambia. They become politicians only to enrich themselves. Nothimng more or less pronto.
But bo cutey ,we can not do away with politics and politicians . What can be changed are the rules of how we want to play politics.
Bo Wise man,
Politicians common denominator is to acquire wealth for themselves. They rarely meet the election promises that made them be voted into power. How do you change the rules when the ones in power are the ones changing the rules… These poiticians are so selfish.Maningi kudya bwino attitude as the main reason to stay in politics. Some even think its a pensionable job and cry foul when they are sacked within few months in power.
Gday to you.
Oooops! meant nothing more or less..typo….
Tricky… This indaba seems to be just plain drag. I presume it exactly involves issues concerning what the Tonga man suggested to RB who as a corollary the intelligent Tonga man was made to feel he was thinking from his feet. It makes you wonder but hey I wish them luck
it cant work out because the president of the ZIMANDOLA NATION the most wamuyaya president.president for life MIKAELI CHILUFYA SATA will not accept to participate in this so called indaba where his mighty wont be recognised.
