Tuesday Zambia Football Briefs

Share

Herve Renard has declared the door closed on the old guard hoping to jump onto Zambia’s current wave on the qualifying road to Angola and South Africa in 2010.

Renard said the time had come to hand a new generation of Zambian players their chance to stand up and be counted on the next step of the teams never-ending rebuilding process.

“To say that door is open, is easy to say that. I don’t think we will be strong with the past,” Renard said on Monday evening upon arrival at Lusaka International Airport from Cairo where Zambia drew 1-1 with Egypt in a Group C qualifying match.

“Don’t forget we have young and hungry players  knocking at the door like Henry Banda waiting for a chance to be in the team.”

Renard said he would give priority to the players who won bronze at the just ended CHAN after his regular crew of foreign-based faithful’s.

He also singled out young teenage defender Emmanuel Mbola of Armenian club Pyunik Yerevan who had a good outing against Egypt as a future mainstay in left-back that, for the last four years, has been the sole preserve of Joseph Musonda from Lamontville Golden Arrows of South Africa.

The news almost certainly means Andrew Sinkala, Moses Sichone and Clive Hachilensa’s futures with Zambia are looking bleak.

In other news, Zesco United’s Caf Africa Chmapions League opponents Africa Sports are expected on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s  1st round, return leg game at the Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola.

However, reports from Abidjan are that Africa Sports Italian-born coach Antonio Nobile has quit bringing an end a successful two-year stay at the club in which he has witnessed league wins in 2008 and 2007.

Nobile said to have quit last week after two successive league defeats in as many games played in the new Cote d’Ivoire season and also cited professional reasons for leaving.

Africa Sports’ management however, is still hoping Nobile will have a change of heart and travel with the team to Zambia on Wednesday.

Zesco and Africa Sports are tied at 0-0 from the first leg played on March 15 in Abidjan.

Meanwhile, Red Arrows on Tuesday left for Nigeria to face Ocean Boys in the two sides Confederations Cup 1st round, return leg match this Saturday.

Arrows enjoy a 2-0 advantage from the first leg played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on March 14.

  1. Good thinking HR. We need new and hungry kids in the team. They want to play for Zambia at all costs and win medals for chipolopolo and mother Zambia. Yes we can

  2. But also let there be someone to constantly encourage these new players not to fall prey to shakeshake. That is why their careers end so early or may be it is not early since they just reduce their actual age. But the bottom line is that they should be given examples of players like Anelka, Makelele, Van der sar. May be they last that long in their careers because bokulyalini ngako vidulo.

  3. Any news about the game between Malawi and Ivory Coast? I heard some funs died after the stadium in Ivory Coast collapsed. Anyone with the details.

  4. Is Moses Sichone still playing for Zambia? I understand he has obtained German Citizenship and so I wonder why he still regarded as a zambian player? Can someone enlighten me on this issue. At the moment he is playing for Alemania Aachen while Sinkala is in Koblenz!

  5. Good one coach, though also you should not completely close the door for the old guards. Experience everywhere is required to mesh with upstarts. Check all the great teams atleast “mulaba mbili zakale”, and ofcourse not late comers like chi Tana. These mbili zakale bring in their experience “in’ga naikakana”. Making players realise that they will have to fight for their positions is very good as it will make them wake up. I am sure Isaac Chansa is alive to this fact now. #2 Kamunyama: “winsekesha pa kunwa shakers”. You remind me of one time “chi Mbesuma went absent mu South Africa; he was found “mu Soweto drinking Shakers equivalent together with “chi Rotson Kilambe”.

  6. Jamaco if a player ever played for a national team they would forever play for that same national team, till death. Im trying to say, you can never play for more than one national teams in your life.

  7. Jamaco, 22 soccer fans died in Ivory Coast due to a stampede just before the game with Malawi which the host team won 5-0. The game had an astounding attendance record because of the many international stars that the match attracted. They had players such as Didier Drogba who plays for Chelsea and his team mate kalou and a few others from elite European leagues. The government in ivory coast has taken over the responsibility of helping other fans who were injured.

  8. Mbesuma Collins the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end.
Sinkala out, Hachilensa finito, Sichone buried and forgotten, Tana no turning for national duties. VIVA FRESHERS

  9. # 7 That is not true, there was a player that played for our national team then later own he decided to play for his home country (congo dr)

  10. BRAVO CAOCH!! Finally, someone in your position has said it out loud. Days of featuring players based on their past glories should have been over centuries(metaphor) ago. Maybe then Zambia would have recovered from the Gabon Airplane disaster much sooner. To all you younger players proudly representing Zambia at the moment, here is a piece of advice: Always consider yourselves lucky and privileged to play for your country. Name any world-class soccer player, past or present, and you will quickly discover that they were/are, first and foremost fiercely loyal to “Country”, and club second. Take a page from your current FAZ pres, Ba KALU: You may learn a thing or two. Full-steam ahead…

  11. Gametime12 (at 11 & 12) #7 is right. If a player has featured for his first country’s Senior National Team, he cannot feature for a second country after acquiring ‘new’ citizenship. It is possible, however, for a Junior team member (who has never featured for the Senior team) to acquire ‘football citizenship status’ of another country. The example you give at # 12 is a case in point.

  12. Fair enough Yangu, Papa Kamwashi featured on our senior national team then later on for Congo Dr’s senior squad. I don’t know how this came to be but you can look it up.

  13. I think for now , let every Zambian contribute to the success of Zambian football regardless of social status….

  14. ya thats good to hear.i remember sichone coming to bring comfusion in zambia vs south africa during the previous qualifiers.south africa then beat us by a goal .so no big heads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. aaaah, did i say we must behave like,no no no no we must not behave. The post is the paper i love to hate.Quote rightly you reader.

  16. Great Move Herve Renard, the avearage age in many clubs in Europe is 25-26, I often wondered Why Zambian players average age was 32-35. No wonder we dont do well in Tournaments because the old guys take days to recover from energy supping games. We start well but we end badly because the Oldies cant make it to the bend. I also think blending young and old is good but I think it’s time we look beyond 2010 it’s time we have players who will play atleast for years. Mayuka is around about 18-19yrs Mbola 16 so the Future looks promising Wayne has come 6 years now since making it to the national team at 18, Ronaldo (Brazil) since making it at 17-18 Ronaldo (Portugal) since 17 and his only 21

  17. #15 May be he was able to play for Congo DR because he changed his name to Kanku Mulekelai. Yangu is right at #12

  18. Great thinking coach, we should go back to good olds of players like Numba Mwila, Chikwalakwala, Peter Mwanza etc, times when even those that on the bench are good. Lets have the best 23.

  19. Good thinking ba Coach let us encourage young talent to prove themselves for the future of the game. #24 why should we stop playing football? It’s just the name of the game you win some you loose others no fear no surrender until mu final. No wasting of time one day we will bring that cup when our time comes. Who knows that this may be the right time?

  20. @Larry My point exactly he still featured in both senior squads. So one has to change his name in order to do this, and I believe you can legally change your name in some countries.

  21. CHAN 2009 Golden Boot winner Given ‘Freedom’ Singuluma has signed a 3 year old with French giants, Olympique Marseille.atekanyefye umwaiche etemwa ukulepaula inama
