Britain says it has only spent £7 million in supporting the fight against corruption in Zambia over the past seven years.

British High Commissioner to Zambia, Tom Carter, said this in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday.
This is contrary to reports in some sections of the media that Britain has spent £500 million on the fight against corruption in Zambia.

“I have seen reports in the Zambian media suggesting that the UK had spent £500 million on the fight against corruption. This is incorrect,” he said.

Mr Carter said Britain, through the Department for International Development (DFID), had spent £7 million, most of which was in support of the activities of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Task Force on Corruption.

“The British Government will continue to support the Zambian authorities in the fight against corruption and in this context, warmly welcomes the recent approval of the National Anti Corruption Policy,” Mr Carter said.

On Sunday the Forum for Leadership Search  (FLSZ) Zambian  Chapter  Executive Director Edwin Lifwekelo claimed that Britain had spent 500 million pounds in the last 5 years on the fight against corruption

“We have  learnt with interest the statement by the British High Commissioner to Zambia, Thomas Carter that Britain has spent over US$1billion, 500 million pounds in the last 5 years on the fight against corruption,” Mr. Lifwekelo said in his statement.

He further said both the Zambian government and Mr. Carter should help the nation by disclosing how such a colossal amount of money was used for.

  1. I thought so, the first time I saw the story. These dull chaps on RB’s payroll don’t even have an idea what 500 million pounds mean what what a billion dollars is. And I wonder who even gives them a platform to spit their garbage in the public media. You are embarrassing Zambians. You have just taken your bootlicking to far really and the international community even wonder whey we let such dull heads to get even near a microphone

  2. Obviously, not 500m pounds!! Lifwekelo is playing with 500m sterling; It can’t be that much money; I mean it’s too much!!

  3. Seriously speaking Tom even £7m is a lot of money. Blimey, that`s my money gone to Zambia to help fight corruption which is seen as normal in my country. Nafulwa sana! Morning and bye bye people. I will have a Stella tonight, blimey!

  4. During my days, such swallows will be put in front of a swinging assegai to teach them a lesson that lies destroy society. It is such a shame that such wicked spineless jackals of the dark are allowed to dwell amidst people, pretending they are abanthu!. Sad indeed.

  5. Lifwekelo don’t confuse the people with false allegations. It seems nobody knows who gets how much and when!

  6. These two have nothing to do,they want to pretend as though they are interllectuals,I dont even understand some of these briefcase NGOs……Chama Chakomboka the old man was even better than these two quacks…

  7. Pipo have you seen where things are heading to now? Are you going to continue believing whatever this ***** Lifwekelo waffles. Liars do not deserve a listening ear please. Lies always come back to haunt their perpertrators. Just the other side, some accusation of someone having pocketed $30million has now surprisingly reduced the amount to $1.7million. MWEBANTU!!!

  8. Morning bloggers! All Lifwekelo needs to do is substantiate his source of information to clear the situation. I hope he will not say that he heard it from “undisclosed sources”

  9. 500 million pounds is a huge amount of money. Coud the British Goverment have spent such a huge sum of money to fight corruption in Zambia? I have a BIG DOUBT.

  10. WE KNEW THAT THIS LIFWE..PAKUNYA WAS JUST ASS KISSING.NOW LET HIM SUBSTANCIATE HIS ALLEGATIONS.REMEBER THEY ARE EVEN ASKING FOR MUTEMBOs RESIGNATION.SHAME ON YOU LIFWE..PAKUNYA

  11. There’s no point in Lifwekelo or anyone else to substantiate their claims, neither the British govt nor British people would allow such a huge amount to be spent on matters of no British interest,£500 Million is such a huge amount. It is S.T.U.P.I.D for Lifwekelo or anyone to make such wild allegations. There are far too many loafers in Zambia that anyone who is loud mouthed becomes poplular & is used by the govt run by dull chaps. It’s so unfortunate how educated people could become so dull, sometimes,i can’t even believe journalists buy such kind of crap & publish in their media.

  12. Bootlickers and oppportunist indeed.
What kind of leaders are you searching for if you dont’t even have the moral decency to tell the truth. The guy next to him in the picture was a swindler at Katondo street,Lusaka Hotel.

  13. This Lufweke fimo fimo, wabufi sana! Thats what happens when you have been paid to speak! You start barking instead of talking.

  14. This is the problem with our leaders. Wrong figures and so we end up with wrong statistics which just lead us astray. We waste so much time talking about investment and when people invest no one can accommodate the money properly.
If the ACC received such an amount then there should be papers to prove it. The budget for 2009 is set and I hope the figures are reliable, otherwise there will be corrections made before the year ends. We are watching.

  15. #18 is right. There is no way the British government would spend £500m on Zambia just like that. It seems to me that this man is so used to dealing in millions of Kwacha that he does not understand what a collosal sum £500m is. As others have said, he is dull. He needs to get a proper job and stop shooting his mouth off!

  16. Forum for Leadership Search (FLSZ) Zambian Chapter. What kind of NGO is this. They only surface when peddling GOVT unholy agendas. This guy is definitely OP-Special Branch. In any case with 7million pounds you can build 250 3 bedroomed houses to accommodate 1000 needy Zambians. Meantime it was spent by 20 people on a cut and mouse chase between seating govt and their predecessors.

  17. Unfortunately Mr Luswekolo gave us a wrong figure, but that does not change anything in me coz 7million pounds is also a huge amount of money which can be used improve other economic sectors in our beloved country unlike using it to fight corruption which up to now Iam not satisfied with the outcomes of the same fight of corruption. Most of the victims of corruption are still enjoying life to the fullest.E,g FTJ,Katele,Chungu(Six months is nothing),Stella,Aron,Faustin all these guys are ejoying life and yet we still put in money to fight corruption .Govt should just drop the charges and use the money to do other things that will benefit pipo of Zed.

    Have a lovely day brethren.

  18. Power = work done/time. If time is money and knowledge is power. then

then knowledge = work done/money. this means that the more knowledge you have, the more work you’ve to do. knowledge and money are inversely proportional

  19. Matworld shani? Ala nimfulwa icinecine. So the tax I pay just goes like that! I agree with you and I said exactly the same thing. What have you been up to?

  20. To me this is a foreign policy matter and wonder why we have this impoverished ( and obviously dull) youth utterring such nonsense when infact our govt/ treasury has systems of monitoring where donor monies have been spent. why let a shallow minded chap like this start talking directly with foreign deplomats and involving them in local political squables. Ati Lifwekelo yaaaba!! what a waste.

  21. 3RqU Iam fine big man cali kale zo-ona.Isukulu lyalefwaya ukundisha nomba mailo ninshi calila easter vacation.Too bad big Man namufulwa as for me Iam now used to this govt.i just smile when I see headlines like this one pretending all is well.

Have a lovely day Mudala wandi nangu you dont reply to my mails.

  22. Iwe Ross # 11. Osakamba pa Bamudala the Late President Chama Chakomboka. Let his soul rest in eternal Peace. These ma useless men trying to be in the daily papers are way out of the league of President Chama. God help us to find another replacement. Oil, Diamonds you name them he knew where they are and we were too gullible not to vote for him

  23. Sorry bethren but am going off the topic. LT,see why i say u r MMD? Why didnt u bring up the issue of those SANGOMAS who spent their nite at Leopards Hill Cemetry claiming to have come to get their ancestors(Freedom fighters)? If memory serves me right the Late LPM (MHSRIP) totally refused to allow such demonic practises but here goes RB allowing them.KK was part of them, demonic.Who knows they came to perform some fimofimo on RB so he becums RB wamuyaya” I rest my case.

  24. If the GRZ spokesman was worth anything, he’d have put the record straight immediately this chap uttered this to the nation. It doesn’t have to take a muzungu to teach us how to count correctly.

  25. Those two are liars are uneducated, trying to make a living by masquarading as educated but deep down they are goons. Goons have no place anywhere on earth. They shoud never even be given any platform by any newspaper or media organization. To sit down and start listening to people like that is dehumanizing, petty and just outright silly. No where on earth will you find people like that attracting attention, they are supposed to be in the background. So Lifwekelo if you are here, stop embarassing us. Go and look after cars in Cairo road. You will earn enough dignfied money to survive.

  26. Since lifwekelo was put on the payroll and given the platfrom to speak,he has always spoken trash. From his own words, one can tell that the man’s intelligence is far from average.I really question how such people get to the helm of such international organisations with Chapters in different countries.

  27. Who is Lufwekelo in the picture. Is it the guy who looks malnourished or the other chap who looks like he take cigar fo breakfast. They all look like dandaheads though. What an embarassment.

  28. LT do not just publish stories for the sake of it. Give us real issues so we can easily follow and contribute where necessary. Stories from cadres must not be entertained as they have little or no truth in them.

  29. Lifwekelo and Siulapwa are a disgrace to youths leaders! As aspiring future leaders they must show consistency instead of being paraded by any politician. These guys are paid to have these Press briefing and read scripted statements! SHAME

  30. Until we learn, to be proud of ourselves and have self worth, we will continue to believe that UK education is better than our own.

  31. The British government is not as bankrupty as the Zambian grz to give Zambia half a Billion USDs only to go to one crooked grz department. By the way, the extent of ignorancy about 500 million Btritish £ is shocking. Do Zambians really think its K500million or around that? Little wonder ministers even sign documents without bothering to read through to understand their implications. I am sure Britain now has a huge question mark over Zambia’s accounting capabilities of their finances.

  32. Peter

From your above posting Iam pretty sure you are Bemba. Your written language spells it all. No amount of editting will hide this.

  33. BUT, HAVE YOU TRIED TO IDENTIFY LIFWEKELA BY POINTING A CURSOR AT ANY OF THE TWO MEN IN PICTURE? BELIEVE ME YOU THEY ARE ALL LIFWEKELAS. JUST TRY AND POINT AT EACH HEAD.

  34. WE MEMBERS OF THE FLS NOW CALL UPON OUR NGO PRESIDENT, EDWIN LIFWEKELO TO RESIGN FROM THE ORGANISATION FOR BRINGING IT INTO DISREPUTE, ODIUM AND CONTEMPT IN THE EYES OF RIGHT THINKING MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC BY TELLING LIES THAT THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT FUNDED THE TASK FORCE TO THE TUNE OF £500M WHEN IN ACTUAL FACT IT WAS £7M. WE WONDER WHY MR LIFWEKELO ALWAYS DISAPPEARS TO THE BUILDING NEXT TO DBZ BEFORE HE MAKES HIS ID.IOTIC STATEMENTS. WE DEMAND YOU STEP DOWN MR LIFWEKELO AS YOU HAVE BEEN CALLING MR MUTEMBO NCHITO TO RESIGN FROM THE TASK FORCE.

  35. Now I know why the British economy collapsed. All the money went to fight corruption in Zambia which has unfortunately bred more corruption.

  36. The British Goverment can not provide us with such a huge sum of money to fight corruption. 500m pounds is alot of money. I think goverment is to blame for allowing people like Lifwekelo to be ejaculating such nosense

  37. So , what is Lifwekwe fimo fimo trying to prove in here?? he just dreamt about that amount and decided to take it to the Media. Even 7Million Pound is a colossal amount of money already spent. Lets see how the Zambia govt. will account for it.

  38. #68, please dont make me laugh.. I have already laughed enough today… save the ribs cracking for another day….plse!!!!!!
