Government has procured over 20 billion worth of construction material to complete the Mongu- Kalabo Road.
Mongu Central Member of Parliament Joseph Muliata says the arrival of the long bridges from Britain is a true demonstration of government’s commitment to the successful completion of the road.
Mr. Muliata, who is also North-western province minister, was speaking to ZANIS in western Province.
He said the bridges and other construction material were enough to cover the remaining 40km of the road from Mongu harbour to Tapo in Kalabo district.
Mr. Muliata said the MMD government under the leadership of President Rupiah Banda was in a hurry to complete the project in order to open up western province to economic development.
He said contractors have in the past used low bridges which got washed away during floods and frustrated efforts to complete the road on time.
Mr. Muliata has assured the people of western province that a contractor has already been found and that government was assessing the best way of executing the mammoth project.

Lets hope for the best, because the route from Mongu Harbour to Tapo (Kalabo Road) is littered with monuments to failure composed of dormant culverts and machinery!

The Chinese you are insulting built the Tuta road ito link Luapula to Central Province. They also bulut the longest bridge in Africa on that road, all 4km of it. The Chinese also built TAZARA through some of the most challenging terrain in the world (1116 tunnels on the Tanzanian side and a swamp in Mikumi game reserve) You upstarts don’t know anything at all. You should begin by knowing your history because people who don’t know thieir history are doomed to repeat their mistakes. The Italians saved us by giving us 200 ZAMTAN trucks, helped us build a pipeline and a refiney after the Rhodesians declared UDI.

We were air lifting petrol and diesel and no country could survive like that. So, if you have something between your ears , don’t ever insult the Chinese. They were there for us before you were born. In case you forget the first fighter planes flown by Zambians were from China and the first tanks for our army were from China not to talk about guns. That is how we could defend ourselves. Read your history and know where you are going.
I think the Mongu -Kalabo road project stinks with corruption. I can not help but notice the huge sums of money spent every year on this particular road. How are contracts awarded and can any thing be realistically be constructed on sinking sands of Mongu and Kalabo? I think that some contracts are awarded and huge sums paid out knowing very well that come rain season whatever is constructed will be washed away and again a new contract is awarded to ‘reconstruct’ the damaged road. My opinion is that nothing can be built directly between Mongu and Kalabo and that politicians from western province use this road project to steal from the Zambian government on the pretext of national building. This project needs to be investigated. A viable road can be built via Lukulu, why not do that?

Your so called international airport can not be compared to a landing strip in remote China.They have built the largest power station or Dam in the world .The three Gorges Project. You google search and get information.The highest and longest rail line was just completed by the Chinese a couple of years ago in Tibet.

So those of you who view China from a Jack Chang old movies “TWO ON THE ROAD” or “THE LEGENDERY NORTHERN KICKS” of the middle 1980s that you watched at PALACE in Kamwala or PLAZA 2 /3 martin SHOWS should understand that China has the largest reserves of US Dollars and every one today is rushing to the Chinese for business.
Simply put no one in the world today can claim to do without the Chinese economy.All the big companies especially auto mobiles and computer manufacturing even banks are in China .

The low quality goods u have in Zambia is not an indication that the Chinese only manufacture low quality stuff. It is what your traders prefer after all you cannot buy a shirt costing K200,000 .
