MMD Chiba Ward Councilor, Pilate Chilambe, is concerned about the increasing number of under-age people patronising drinking places.
Mr. Chilambe appealed to Kasama district council to monitor the situation and ensure that young people below the recommended age do not engage in beer drinking and other vices.
He advised bar, tavern and bottle store owners to desist from allowing young people from entering their premises as this could promote beer drinking among youth.
He suggested that the Council puts measures to ensure that drinking spots adhere to the stipulated time of opening and closing.
And Mr Chilambe has appealed to parents not to marry off young girls because the practice retards national development.
He noted that marrying off girls at the expense of education contributes to high maternal deaths.

Just set a good example by drinking responsibly yourselves!
Please establish strict laws for ‘underage’ not to patronise such places like other developed countries do.Thats the only way you can control such behaviour.
you just talk and talk no actions
Teen drinking is very bad!! Unless you have a fake ID :-j
On a serious note. Nothing will stop the Youth from experimenting. You can just reduce the problem but you can not completely eradicate it. Period!! Wishing you all a happy easter and drink responsibly.
#4, Happy Easter to you Jamaco. We always drink ‘very’ responsibly….Even lunch break, a glass of red is always good. lol
This is something difficult to bring to an end, unless you say people should be entering bars with NRCs.
#5, Thenjiwe, are you really a woman?
I agree with Abena Copperlah. Those under 18 are the ones ku fore front in night clubs. You find that they are the ones who even drink hard stuff.IDs would help and not just talking.
#7, what do you mean?
Is there a problem that I need to know and address as a woman?? I am a married mother of three , home manager and public servant worker too. Is that any help to you?? Hope am not being offensive , but I get offended when I have clearly indicated that Iam a ‘mrs’.. sorry bro/sis…
Iam not new on L.T either…

Akapondo u are right .Sharia law will do us alot of good.at this pace we are going mwandini katwishi how the future will be.
# 9 LOL you sound like fire !! wansekesha LOL =)) =))
Zambian politics and politicians have taken from the youth (as well as adults) the future. The economy is liberalized; it is God for all and everyone for himself. Assuming people agree with me , who in their right senses will invest in a bottlestore /bar and then start turning away the youth who are able to find TIME and MONEY to be at the bottlestore? Use of NRCs ? The Councillor and co. are just falling short of suggesting. But is it workable? So, all this we are seeing is what the politicians have sown and continue to sow.
GRZ, just provide the young people with the right infrastructure and they will stop frequenting bars and taverns for they will work hard at being good in something that will give them a future, e.g., sports facilities like tennis, chess, etc.. Otherwise, rhetoric will not work.
I like what i saw on SKY NEWS batata.in Afghanistan a chi boss of the Talibans flogging a ka 16 year old girl whilst two henchmen were holding her.one holding the feet the other one the arms.the reason being the kid started EATING APPLES at a very tender age.she was canned until she screamed NALAPILA!!! That’s what we need in zambia
