Veep warns opposition against derailing investor confidence

Share

Vice President, George Kunda, has denounced some opposition party leaders who are trying to frustrate government’s development agenda.

Mr. Kunda said some opposition parties were giving a negative impression about the country’s investment climate, hence derailing foreign investor confidence.

He, however, reminded opposition leaders against making derogatory statements about the investment climate because foreign investors were fully aware that Zambia was a safe investment destination.

The Vice President, who is on tour of North-Western Province, said this when he addressed a public meeting in Mwinilunga today.

He disclosed that despite negative statements from some opposition leaders, some Chinese investors have offered to commit US$2 billion in the mining sector in Mwinilunga district.

Mr. Kunda challenged the opposition offer constructive criticism as a way of contributing to national economic development efforts.

He said the move by the opposition to decline the invitations to attend the recently held national indaba is a clear indication that the opposition have nothing to offer to efforts of developing the nation.

He said government will remain focused at implementing development programmes for the economic benefits of the people.

And Mr. Kunda has disclosed government intentions to construct a boarding high school in Mwinilunga district, in line with the policy of enhancing the provision of quality education in the country.

He said Kanyama boarding high school would be constructed at a cost of K44.2 billion.

He also re-iterated government’s commitment to ensure that oil explorations commence in some parts of North-Western and Western Provinces.

He said President, Rupiah Banda, will in the next few days expected to appoint a petroleum committee that would be allocating blocks, where exploration works would take place.

Mr. Kunda added that Mwinilunga would soon receive 100 metric tones of relief food because it was also not spared by the floods, especially in Chief Ntanbu’s area.

  1. The problem is not the opposition party but the government. The opposition is doing a good job and representing the people as it should always be. Kunda just make sure the Government does its home work. look at the state of the mines and you will understand why the opposition parties are concerned.

  2. Kunda needs to stand for elections next time so that he can have an appreciation of what it is like to work for one’s post. Why does he always avoid standing as a parliamentary candidate and instead relies on bootlicking? I am sick of his vacuous pronouncements!!

  3. At first I had some doubts. Now I am totally convinced we have an A-hole for a vice president! Investors don’t have to listen to the opposition to see that the country’s economy is crumbling; they can see it for themselves and by the government’s own pronouncements! It was not the opposition that declare that Zambia would not be affected by the global economic crunch – it was you buffoons in MMD – from the president on down.

  4. CONT’D…It was the opposition that was calling on you to prepare for the coming crisis when you were busy jumping from country to country with absolutely no purpose at all. Even the little resources you had, you continue to squander on meaningless “Indabas” and conferences that add nothing to the value of the nation’s prestige or wellbeing of its general populace. When will you, even just once, accept responsibility for your own mistakes?

  5. Interesting data Mr Minister of Justice Veep George Kunda. But why indicate cowardice by using opposition in “He disclosed that despite negative statements from some opposition leaders, some Chinese investors have offered to commit US$2 billion in the mining sector in Mwinilunga district” when he could just mention the name of the opposition that has been issuing negative statements about the Chinese people. Why use an inclusive term when Mr Kunda could have just hammered the nail on its head and mentioned the name of the one person who is also an opposition political in himself?

Mr Kunda, please help us all by just saying exactly what you mean. On the Northwestern Province tour, it appears like the Minister has been asked to start campaigning for 2011 election by weakening UPND.

  6. Show the investors what you are doing and they will either agree or diagree with you. I think RB and his cronies have no clue about leadership. KK advise these clueless minnows in govt or else we shall get back to the FTJ era with massive malnutrition and theft of resources.

  7. # 3 Chitapankwa,

  9. What a vice president we have!!!!!Zambian politicians talk too much, this man has talked about a lot of things and i know it will not be possible for them in govt to achieve all those things he has talked about…secondly this man should not even condemn political parties and other orgs which boycotted the indaba, coz the resolutions of the last indaba (under LPM) were not implemented what guarantee is there that they will implement the resolutions for this one?

  10. This particular one is worse than all of them Vps. He just yartps against everyone. Have ever heard him say anything semseble

  11. #8 I put my hands up and admit to being ignorant in this case. For some reason, I thought (like Rupiah) he was one of those nominated to parliament by Mwanawasa. So we have Serenje people to blame for this clueless man!

  12. If they are seen to be supporting a govt, that is about oppressing views, then we shall chew them and spit them out!!!they are pumping Billions of $ into Zambia,so it goes if they misstep OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!so iwe ka VP better watch your mouth sucka….the streets of Zambia will be steaming from the fury of the people, the sun will be red,the water in your glass shall be too hot to drink, the chair will have thorns so we are fed up with your lies it’s about time you guys packed up your show and hit the road!!!!!!!!!!
