Zambia Spared All-Africa Games Ban

Share

Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA) has spared Zambia of a games ban  following its withdrawal from hosting the 2011 All-Africa Games.

However, SCSA said in an official communiqué at the end of the organizations’executive committee extraordinary session held in Yaoundé, Cameroon on Friday, April 10 that they will be negotiating with the Zambian government to seek compensation following the country’s withdrawal from hosting the Games.

SCSA has since handed Mozambique with the mandate to hosts the 2011 All-Africa Games.

“Having listened to presentations from the Secretariat General and from the Republic of Zambia, the SCSA Executive Committee debated on the matter in all its aspects, and at the end of the very enriching debates, members concluded that the withdrawal of Zambia causes prejudice to the SCSA Secretariat general and to partners of African Sports Associations, which since 2005, have been preparing for the 10th All Africa Games,” the communiqué read in part.

“However, because of the legal void noticed in SCSA Regulations for such cases, the Executive Committee decided not to apply any sanction against the Republic of Zambia.”

“Further, the Executive Committee mandated the SCSA Secretary General to engage negotiations with the Republic of Zambia on the issue of compensation for costs incurred following its default.”

SCSA said it was also setting up a committee comprising of South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Egypt and Angola to look into propose provisions be added to the organizations constitution that will define what penalties to hand a country that withdraws as an All-Africa Games host nation.

“The Executive Committee decided not to apply any sanction against the Republic of Zambia and set up a committee comprising South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Egypt and Angola to propose provisions to be inducted in SCSA Constitution providing for sanctions against cases of default or the  non-compliance with commitments taken for the organization of Africa Games.”

Zambia last December withdrew as 2011 All-Africa Games hosts citing the current global economic downturn.

  1. Just ban them. Zambia is not serious. As a country, we would have gained a lot. As an individual, am annoyed

  2. Rhupiah NYAMA SOYA is intrested only in soccer and his farm the man has got no vision.lucky him he is our prsident.

  3. What have we gained so far? Nothing but shame!! We should learn how to be serious, sometimes we are so visionless!!!!

  4. This withdrawal was the most premature and dissapointing decision ever made in 2008. Where other nations would have seen a challenge, we just decided to give up. As a Zambian, I still feel demoralised.

  5. This is really disapponting and a slap on the face.Is our govt telling us that Mozambigue is better placed than Zed to host the All africa Games? What wrong with us?

  6. its an opportunity missed, jobs would have been created in the interim and infrastructure put up.We seem to be scared of challenges as a nation, maybe we are lacking leadership in these ministries

  7. Just imagine Sharp shooter:- how annoying it is to lose out to Mozambique. Infact the Chinese who are building the Ndola stadium and rehabilitating the Maramba and Independence stadiums have asserted that these stadia will be ready by 2010. Is the Government telling us that they could have failed to finish the games village (at UNZA, Hone, and wherever else these were to be held), by 2011. When they were just rehabilitating and extending existing infrastracture, and this is always easier than building new complexes. On this particular one, it is indeed a shame, to be a Zambian.

  8. Iam really disappointed Kasama Boy.If it were Angola I will say its okay for these guys enjoyed the oil boom and massive FDI but not Moz.

  9. zambia mother zambia

  10. Its really a shame mother zambia to let moz host, a country which had civil war for years, while we had no war ever and we were buzy helping the same countries which are doing much better than us.

  11. Execution. It is what we have so little of here. Everyone talks, but so few can deliver. The money was in place, but the professionals could not handle it. That is why major projects are farmed out to foreign companies. We have to have a bigger vision than working for NGO’s with inflated budgets.

  12. Nkhani yamu moba. In Zed, that’s were the talk ends up. The fact is Zedians have no guts at all. Shame on us.

    😮

  13. i concur with #1, just ban them from participation like fifa bans members who flout laws. we have seen Kenya and Nigeria banned before.
we can save the money for school football and talent development. i yearn to see those days when the primary school football was a crowd puller. if govt can fund such, we will have more Saturdays with activity and less misbehavior by the pupils who like drinking over the weekend or go to those internet cafes to watch immoral sites

  14. Chale Number 6, does it ever cross you mind that posting pictures of children on the net nowaddays is a very bad idea. how can you be so narrow minded? I know what your answer will be, but you are still ignorant. sort yourself out!!

  15. If LPM was still alive, all this nonsense would n’t have happened!Levy rest in Peace mudala.RBB is just a leader without a head…he didnt ever paln to be presido.Teta and Mike ware to blame for the mess…

  16. they should have been banned!!! why kupusa kwa so. if you cant meet the goals u make why aim so high. cant they learn from south africa? make a decision and stick with it no just embarassing us like this.
