Marketeers in Chavuma district of North-Western Province have commended government for completing the new Chavuma market after the Zambia Social Investment Fund (ZAMSIF), which pledged to finish its construction was phased out and withdrawn from the district.
Chavuma District Commissioner, Fulayi Frobisher, said government funded Chavuma district council a sum of K20 million in 2006 to rehabilitate the existing old market structure.
Mr Fulayi also disclosed that the district has a number of projects that needed government’s support apart from the school and market infrastructures that were being worked on.
He said the phasing out of ZAMSIF left some of the community contributions in form of sand ,stones and baked bricks.
He added that the project took time to complete because it faced alot of challenges especially in the transportation of building materials, such as cement, from the Copperbelt province.
Chavuma District council applied to ZAMSIF to construct a modern market in 2005.
And Anthony Musunzu, a marketeer at Chavuma market, thanked the government for its effort in supporting and modernizing the infrastructure.
He said the modern market will bring development to the area and make Chavuma residents proud as they conduct their day to day businesses in an ideal place.

mmmh its i think we should stop thanking the government anyhow they way we do in zambia that’s their duty in fact, they should be saying they hope that next time it should not take 4 years to rehabilitate a structure. When a child eats breakfast lunch or dinner they don’t go running thanking their parents coz its the duty of the parent and the childs right, when a parent buys the best most expensive bike for a kid then he thanks them coz its not need but just for leisure. When RB gives bags of maize from his farm to help flood victims, then the people should thank him because that goes beyond his mandate or that of government. No wonder GRZ is so relaxed n not on their toes.
Good job. I hope it was done out of sense of duty and not with an ulterior motive for 2011.
There is more to come.
Ok!
I agree with Mukwa- its government respobsibility to provide public goods.we should be demanding for more delivery of goods.
But why thank them? They are only doing what is expected of them. If anything they should build four more.
Its my TAX being used. Thank me you Villas.
#7 you are right.
I hope it is a proper market not just a shelter in a time of storm. If it is a structure like that one in Libala (katungu), then it is rubbish….
its about tym we saw where our money is going… GRZ has a habbit of chasing marketeers and vendors off the streets, when they have not facilitated places for them to sell their stuff, nor do they give them jobs to put food on their tables… well said people no need to thank somone for doing wat they are paid to do.
Tax payers money now working
Yes its tax payers money and yes its government’s duty and responsibility but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be thankfull when a job is done people please Zambians. be responsible. our government isn’t perfect but at least it’s moving forward
This is a misplaced “thank you”. You do not thank someone for doing their work. This is typical village mentality which should not be allowed to take root in our development process.
