The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has welcomed the Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) for deciding to hold a summit for political Party Presidents.
CPD Executive Director, Neo Simutanyi, said the dialogue would be important towards political development in the country.
Dr. Simutanyi told ZANIS in Lusaka today that the meeting is critical as it will allow political leaders to meet and discuss important political issues affecting the country.
He noted that the dialogue meeting will also bring about mutual respect and understanding among political parties in the country.
He has further encouraged representatives at the meeting to come up with constructive ideas that are aimed at improving the current political situation in the nation.
Dr. Simutanyi also advised that there is need for politicians not to have different positions after the meeting but to agree on common issues that will benefit all Zambians.
Dr. Simutanyi, who is a political analyst, added that ZCID should also consider consulting other stakeholders to make their submissions if the meeting is to produce goods results.
He explained that stakeholders such as civil society groups, members of the public, economists and the church should be included in the planning.
He added that holding a dialogue meeting is the only way political leaders will be given a diverse view of important political issues to be ironed out.
He explained that the dialogue is important towards economic and social growth of any country and therefore, there is no need for any party to shun the summit.
Dr. Simutanyi further said ZCID and political parties should sensitize people on what will be discussed during the meeting so that they could make their submissions
ZCID has set April 25, 2009 as the tentative date for a summit of political party presidents, where they are expected to discuss various issues concerning politics in the country.
Cheap way of making money.
It is just going to be a clash of egos arena.who is going to chair it?
Mmmmm! i think the move is welcome but were will the money come from? Was this included in the budget? what guaratee do we have that all political party presidents will attend the summit? will this summit address new ideas which were not discussed at last week’s national indaba?
We do not such things. What is required is to make the Elections body free from GRZ and the Special Branch so that we have an even playing field- no petition or complaints at the end of an election. These issues are the ones the NCC could be dealing with. The cause of tensions in Zambia is that since Chiluba came into power GRZ has abused recources during elections- nothing else. No personal Consitutions should be allowed any more in this country.
Simuntanyi amongest other things says the summit will bring about ‘mutual respect amongest the leaders…’. Just who told him that? Our leaders are busy insulting each other and you think this summit will change anything? You mean we have not forgotten that such a summit was held when LPM (MHSRIP) was alive? What did it yield?
As long as RB continues calling others not normal it is not worthy having this meeting. He is a very bad person and corrupt too
PInky ZCID is funded by donors and it was also triggered by donors.
Another exercise in futility, just like the national indaba. RB is too pompous to dialogue with anyone. Kulimonesha ta.
It appears its only Zed calling for such meetings. First it was a very big but useless indaba, followed by some leaders summit where we had Uganda, RSA, Kenya etc leaders coming. Now MMD wants zambian politicians to meet, Where is the money coming from? Any sane person knows that in such situations we should not be spending unneccessarily but not MMD GRZ. Thats when they want to be seen spending like the Kwacha is going out of fashion. What kind of economist is RB?? Was it by night school?? There should be no more summits, just action to revive the poor economy pls. Those shushushus on the blog pls inform SHREK that we say enough of meetings!!! Action bwana
Sorry, I forgot my gravator. Here it is.
First idea was to hold the Indaba, now it is a meeting for the Opposition party presidos and there representative plus others, this wont work otherwise you need to have boxing gloves nearby.
MMD chaps have no manners [-x
Dialogue should only be possible before a president is sworn-in. Its becoming a charade, almost a mockery, that every time we have a political crisis in the country emanating from a fraudulent electoral process then someone comes up with a political dialogue. When are we going to address the route causes of this chronic infighting?
it is not good to call one other mad man. however, we know sata is not normal but it very bad when it is coming from the head of the state. banda is also mad man. Look how he visits his home area is eastern province. Am told, he never visisted some of the areas since elected many month ago. sata is not mad man……….pabwatoo………kaponyas, rotten teeth. see you.
There is nothing better than dialogue, trouble is some oppositional leaders simply attend only to display their political antics and comedy….. Nothing serious to suggest to the others
Political rhetoric!!! Stop wasting people’s time – cut down on the number of political parties. For a population of 12million- 50 political parties whilst USA has population of 250 million and two parties – ironic indeed!
