CHIEF Government spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha has described as malicious calls by some people for the resignation of Vice-President George Kunda.

Lieutenant-General Shikapwasha said in an interview yesterday that the tribunal that was set up to probe former Communications and Transport minister, Dora Siliya, had concluded its work and there was no such recommendation for Mr Kunda to step down.

Gen Shikapwasha said now that the tribunal had made the verdict and that Ms Siliya had resigned, people should not divert Government attention and must allow it to work for the betterment of the country.

“The tribunal has finished its work and there is no such recommendation for the vice-president to resign. This is just a malicious attempt by people who want to take advantage of the situation,” he said.

Gen Shikapwasha, who is Minister of Information, said the Government would not be swayed by people who wanted to make its work difficult.

There have been calls by some individuals and organisations for Mr Kunda to resign for defending Ms Siliya.

Ms Siliya was found by the Dennis Chirwa Tribunal to have awarded RP Capital Partners a contract to value Zamtel assets disregarding legal advice from the attorney general.

MMD youths in Bwana Mkubwa constituency in Ndola have hailed Ms Siliya for resigning her ministerial position.

Constituency chairman, Enoch Chungu said in a statement, also signed by two others, that youths in Bwana Mkubwa were happy that she had exhibited maturity in the manner she reacted to the findings of the tribunal.

Others who signed the statement are constituency youth secretary and vice-chairman, James Mwamba and Richard Kaputula, respectively.

Usually, African leaders insist on remaining in power because they fear from being held accountable for the political crimes they committed, the social and economic mess they have created when in power. Therefore, they create all loopholes and perform all unimaginable manoeuvring not to release the lid of power. Such selfishness usually leads to guerrilla warfare and ethnic problems, non of which could be cited as a good examples in any African country. Therefore, if anybody who climbs the ladders of leadership in Africa is genuine for the development of his country and the well-being of his people. SHould RB Stand?

    Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika plans to hold on to power by rigging the 19 May presidential poll, Nyasa Times has investigated.

    President Mutharika summoned Commissioners he appointed for the mandated body to handle the elections for a meeting at New State House in Lilongwe.

    During the meeting, sources told Nyasa Times, Mutharika discussed with his Commissioners how best the y can add up to 1.5 million votes to his ticket to ensure he wins the elections.

Even when they are right to defend each other it makes it hard to believe them for starters those that can attack them only have these means and will use it at all times it becomes there job to also keep themselves in the public domain.   136. The honourable resignation of Dora Siliya does not in any way declare her guilty. The AG office simply convived against her and nothing has been done to hear her side of the story on that score. The whole reason for her resignation was the unwarranted comments by the Judges of the tribunal, way beyond their mandate. The issues that the pronouced in judgement went beyond the content of the tribunal proceedings as if to catch her off-guard. Very unfair handling of issues these judges! It was a question of who held the mike and spoke last!
